This is now just called 502 W Alabama by Fat Property. Avoid this like the plague. Not safe! Gross. They have transient, SKETCHY as h*ll Airbnbr's in and out all the time who have fights & cops called. They are loud and look like they from the hood. The office does not respond. This is a smoking property. Smoke smell and cig butts everywhere. Smoke smell was in my apartment too and I don't smoke. Dirty property. Uncaring staff. Roaches. Dirty parking lot. Dirty laundry area. Dirty people.

I am a previous tenant (from the 90's). I rented here because my credit was bad, my rental history sucked and I really needed the rent by the week and furnished flexibility. I did end up being here about 18 months. I don't remember there being more bugs here than in any other of the places I had lived over the years. Yes, this place had all sorts of people that for whatever reason could not rent at the "nice" complexes. Yes, there were people with drug problems. Yes, there were parolees. No, I would not live there with kids, but as a down on my luck 20something it fit the bill. Life is what you make it. If you want odd friends, socialize with your neighbors... I you don't... stay in your apartment.

How can you write a review for a place that you would not recommend?! All I can say is... 1) NO A/C (air conditioner) no matter what story they give you it does not work. I am locked into a lease agreement and I have had air conditioning for 3 months of the 9 months I have lived here, and that was during the months of November, December and January. 2) NO Parking, assigned or availble. That too is a lie. 3) Unsecure, constant hoodlum activities, such as break ins, car vandalism, graffiti, trash and NO MANAGEMENT accountability for any issues that arise. 4) NO MANAGEMENT availability, unable to collect mail due to lack of office hour availability where the mailboxes are stationed. 5)Infestations by BED BUGS,FLEAS, TICS, ANTS, ROACHES AND SPIDERS; just to name a few. I have been living here since August of 2010, locked into a lease and over $1,200 deposit plus rent. I was last exterminated July 29, 2010; or so they say. I am very clean and neat, almost OCD and I cannot even eat in my own home. Tenants are throwing their furniture away to rid themselves of the infestation taking place at this complex. 6) First week I lived here the S.W.A.T. team of HPD raded the apartment downstairs from my new home. The MANAGEMENT, and I use that term loosely, was well aware of the goings-on with the residents, they had full knowledge and did nothing. The tenants were wanted for drug trafficing, and that was nothing compare to the warrant for PREMEDITATED MURDER and AGGREVATIVE ASUALT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON.

Skylane?? LAMO!!!! That place is a total nightmare. I moved out in October and thank God I did. Grab a beer, Tea, coffee and read on. I have a list that I will show you many reasons not to move there... 1)ROACHES. Plenty of them. I have trouble controlling them. they will not exterimate. I had a neighbor I think he breeds them. I went to his apt and I counted at least 200 in his window alone. I complained to the office about it and she said you need to buy bug spray and spray your own apt, we wont hire a exterimater. We can't afford it! 2)MAIL. Getting your mail from her is like getting blood from a rock, Either she is too busy or she is not there. We don't get half of our mail. If you (ugh) move there get a Post office box. 3)LIGHT BILL. Their sign says "BILLS PAID" Dont Belive it! At the end of the month you will get a light, gas, water bill ranging from $60.00 to $180.00. Their sign is a big lie. I will have a picture of their sign and you will see it yourself.. 4)Maintance. They dont have any. If it need to fixed fix it yourself. The owner is too cheap to hire somebody to do the repairs. 5)SECURITY LIGHTS. The outside lights don't work over half of the time. I had a neighbor that change out the burnt out lights and I thought he was maintance and he said no, He told me he bought the lights out his own pocket beacuse he feared for the safety for his wife and his neighbors. 6)GATE CODE. They have security gates that you need to use a 4 digit code to get in. GET REAL!!! Everybody in town has the code!!! What good are they??? 7)OFFICE. The sign in the window says "OPEN" Get real, she is never there. You need to to the Southwest location to find her (if your lucky!) 8)NOISE. If your deaf no problem, If not? Loud music, partying, doors slaming, fighitng, slamming gates. 9)DRUGS AND SUCH. Need drugs? You will find it here. They will rent to drug dealers with no problem, even if you have a felony or any kind of a conviction. somtimes you can find a prostitute to satisfied your needs at the complex. 10)LAUNDRY ROOM. 1 Washer and 2 dryers and no tokens to use them. The office never has any. If you need to do laundry you need to go to a laundry room down the street There are pleanty of places to live, NOT SKYLANE APARTMENTS!! 11)DEPOSIT. You wont get it back. PS:: Don't bring any roches, They will provide them for free of charge.. PSS:: Get a alarm on your car it will get broke into!!!!!!!

I'm a previous tenant from several years ago when I was attending school. It was a terrible experience then and, apparently, it hasn't improved. Potential renters should know that Skylane Apts serves primarily a disenfranchised market and attracts residents who would unlikely be able to rent elsewhere due to their inability to pass drug and criminal background checks, income issues, unemployment issues, and poor credit ratings. Skylane knows this and exploits their residents accordingly. There are several resources available to those considering renting or who are now renting from from a Skylane property. These web resources should be consulted before any decision is made regarding deposits, complaints, lawsuits, etc. Start here: Texas Tenants Advisor http://www.texastenant.org/ Texas Tenants Rights http://www.tenant.net/Other_Areas/Texas/tenants.html People Lawyer http://www.peopleslawyer.net/tenant3.html Don't be victimized by any landlord hoping you don't know the facts.

I have a friend who made the mistake of renting here! There just is nothing RIGHT about these apartments! Better said, what is NOT wrong here! The owners should pay you to live here...honestly.

I moved into Skylane at Alabama and Day (right where Alabama crosses under Spur 527 - on the Montrose area side) after the breakup from a cheating boyfriend. If I had known what I was in for, I'd have stayed with the boyfriend. The DAY I moved in, I went to the office and told them EVERYTHING that was wrong: #1 The front window was broken (has a big missing piece of glass that they put duct-tape over). #2 The faucet for the kitchen sink wobbled back and forth and had water CONSTANTLY pouring from it even though it was turned off. #3 The bathroom sink wasn't even connected to the drain. #4 The was a hole in the ceiling over the bathtub where the upstairs neighbor's tub appeared to have leaked til it came thru in the below apartment. Again they duct-taped the hole over #5 The kitchen cabnets were falling apart (doors wouldn't close, top caveing in etc etc). #6 the complex of 32 units has 2 washers and 2 driers and they run on TOKENS, where do you GET the tokens? From the office that is always closed of course. Oh, the is only one WORKING washer and dryer They PROMISED it would all be fixed. That night (and many thereafter) there were 6 gunshots right outside my door. Not only did they NOT fix the things that were wrong, they came BEATING on my door one morning about rent. (I work nights and hadn't picked up my check yet - and Bill the incompetent ---- KNEW it - we had discussed it the week prior) The NEXT WEEK, he did it again. I just didn't open the door this time and he posted a notice on my door for unpaid rent from 6-8 months prior (I'd only been there 4 weeks at this point) I went to Bill again & he assured me that it was wrong. (OF COURSE it was wrong it had MY apt # on it, the name of the previous tennant and the unpaid rent of the guy before him. The guy Bill replaced wasn't so bright either, he never bothered to post anyone's payments) I came home from work that night to find they cut off MY power over the unpaid rent that I didn't owe) I went into the office and informed Bill, the clueless one, that my lights were off. He told me that there was not even a lease in my name (again thanks to the prior office manager) Bill then told me that he'd turn my lights back on, he did - EIGHT HOURS LATER Two nights later, the lights were again turned off, and Bill proceeds to tack an eviction notice to my door - AGAIN IN THE NAME OF THE PREVIOUS TENNANT AND AGAIN WITH AN UNPAID AMOUNT OF OVER $1500 I went to the office & Bill told me that I'd have to pay the unpaid amount BEFORE I could get a lease in my name. This place is a RIP-OFF

I have a friend who is currently renting from there and I must say I am appalled at the way the management has treated her. Making fines up and causing stress for the person who lives there. It's ludicrous and someone needs to find a way to shut this place down.
