The place is okay from what i have experienced only problem I have had so far is a small foundation issue (when it rains like crazy the kitchen leeks a little bit) but any time i needed to call for maintence they have came i keep to my self and haven't had any problems BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN ITS 100% SAFE lol a friend of mine that lives here has had his car stolen and on occasion i hear about cars being broken into but to even it out, their is a small police station within the complex and I have seen officers strolling around (assuming their just ensuring the security of the grounds and not just looking for ppl who called them for other issues)

First off I just want to say that I found the opinion of some previous reviewers to be kind of....vengeful and bitter and ignorant(that comment about college students vs. section 8 people sounded so offensive, simple, and extremely closeminded and really immature). My experience with Nubia has been a good one. I feel that based off of the other apartments in this area around the same price Nubia offers a lot to college students. The partment is located just down the street from TSU so it is an easy walk or bike ride. The prices are affordable and residents have access to the gym, a pool (during the summer), and computers to print out papers, and even a courtesy patrol (officers that patrol the parking lots during different times at night). I believe that another person mentioned something about witnessing someone being held at gun point and knife point in broad daylight lol...I really believe that to be totally made up. The whole time I have been here I haven't seen or heard of anything like that and believe me news gets spread around here fast lol. The manager of the complex has always been nice to me and I have not experienced any attitude from her like others have suggested. If you pay you are doing what needs to be done like paying your rent on time, following the outlines stated in your leasing contract, and are being respectful there shouldn't be any problems. I have lived at Nubia for about 3 yrs and since then all the request that I have made have been handled quickly and efficiently. I have a busy schedule so often times I can not be in the apt to wait for the service tech to come in and make repairs. They often come in when I am not their and make the repairs, and leave a note saying that they have been in the apt. Nothing has ever been moved out of place or stolen. You get a lot at Nubia for such an affordable price. The apt are pretty old and have been there since the 1970s so you are not getting the most posh and luxurious apt but what you can expect is a clean, neat, spacious, and stylish apt. I'm not complaining since it definitely beats staying on campus in the dorms and apts at school....and really beats some of the other more shady apts for the same prices in the area close to the school. The point is that in my opinion Nubia is a good deal and I wanted to write an honest, accurate review of my experience here. Take the time to visit and check it out for yourselves.

To began with let me say that the last comment posted regarding this complex is kind of biased and skewed. The person who wrote it was mindful enough to point out the problems she faced but they may not be the representative of the whole community. I have stayed in this place for almost whole of my college life (around 4 years) and I never had issues either with the management or the maintenance staff. Some of my friends moved in at my recommendation and it will not be wrong to say that we all are more than satisfied with this place. Well you have to admit that the neighborhood is not the fanciest one but you still have to give credit to the way community is maintained. First of all it is gated community with a gate code assigned to the residents, so that no strangers can trespass. The presence of a police station reinforces the sense of security. I have seen officers walking in the complex around 2am checking on who is coming in or going out. Officers might not be there 24/7 but you will see them very often. The complex gives a very clean look. Well maintained trees and bushes help to add aesthetics of the place. Cut green grass along the walk-ways give relaxing feeling as you walk to you apartment. Yes, the problem I have had is when the gardener comes to trim the greeneries; his tools make too much noise. Well I suppose then the issue is not that gardener is bad, rather the sophistication of the tools. If tools are not designed to be quiet then you cannot blame the gardener. Above example of the gardener sums up the story of this community. Since it is an old complex so one should expect minor issues, whether they be of pluming or anything which an old apartment might face. So I recommend that you report a problem to the leasing office the moment you face it. I kept on delaying to report my minor issues to the authorities. So if you are planning to move here, please report your problems right away. I can assure you it would be taken care off immediately (talking from experience). Talking about the maintenance staff, I must say they know what they are doing. I never had to call them twice for the same problem. Once my faucet won t close in the middle of the night. My apartment was about to flood with water so I had to call the maintenance. I was surprised with an immediate response from the staff that to on a weekend. They come to my apartment within 20 minutes and fixed the problem. Over the period of four years, I have had to call them couple of times and was always satisfied with the service I received even at the odd hours. And yes I must mention that at times staff has to enter your apartment (when you are not around) as per the need of the situation. Everyone knows it, even then they give a notice before hand. Last but not the least I think management team is great. It is very helpful and professional. The manager should be commended for the way she has kept the whole place together. I was surprised to read in the last comment that she was biased and oblivious of the needs of the customers. Infact I have found her to be really cooperative and friendly. She has always taken care of concerns of her customers. So thumbs up for the whole team from me.

I will try to be as comprehensible as I can with regard to explaining Nubia Square and why I rate it the way I do. If anyone has any debts about what I am saying just speak to the current residents. The only reason I stayed was due to my commute. Every apartment community has problems no matter where its located or the size but this particular community is headed by Lincoln Properties an international company (google them). This company has plenty of money to fix the minor problems before they become major and take care of the mismanagement. There is no excuse for the negligence and mismanagement of these problems at this property. Sadly my problems are small compared to half of the other tenants. My advice to all if one has to live here is: have a lawyer on stand-by and get the owner s information. The building: The building has termites and a constant leak in most of the bathrooms which affects the other tenants under and around you. There are also drain gnats; the infestation is in the pipes (these are biting gnats). I know this because not only did it happen in my apartment but I had four friends (in four different apts) that suffered with the same problem. The Management: The apartment manager is another issue. She seems nice in the beginning and then for no reason her attitude towards you just changes in a very negative way. . I know this because not only did it happen to me and many others but I spoke to someone who used to work with her. She also has a tendency of not answering the office phone when you call if you happen to be one of those whom she does not like. I personally had to block my phone number when I called the office just to get an answer. There have been three different assistants to work under her in the few years that I stayed. Be careful her attitude change can influence how much you pay for rent when you renew your lease and when and if you get maintenance service. The Maintenance: My move in date was January 2008 and the one bedroom apartment had everything I needed at the time. I had just over 600 square feet a dishwasher and my own balcony. Things seem fine until I needed maintenance. My A/C filter needs to be changed at least every 3 months. When I ask for my filter to be changed the head staff guy (the one everyone has problems with) tried to wait until he thought I was not home and then tried to enter my apartment. Thankfully in addition to the extra door lock I had a kick stand to help keep the door locked. Other residents had noticed that he would wait until he knew when a person would usually leave and then enter the apartments. This maintenance guy is the jack of all traits and the master of none. Basically if you have plumbing problem its best to have a real educated plumber take care of the problem. (Most of the problems in the complex have to do with plumbing because the buildings are old and the pipes have not been properly taken care of). He patches things up and then about a month later the problem returns, only its worst than before. He is also arrogate he thinks he knows everything about plumbing and will not hear any advice as to what you think the problem is. There have been six different (meaning one was fired and then another hired) service assistants to work under the head maintenance in the few years that I lived here. The Neighbors: There are a lot of section 8 residents here that do nothing all day but sit outside and talk loud fight and bring in other people who don t live here or care about life. (Keep in mind not all people who are on section 8 act like this. Only the few that live here). Those residents don t like people who go to school and/or know how to read especially if you are a female. There have been a number of problems between college students and the do nothing tenants that live here. Example: some arguments have resorted in the students cars being vandalized, and doors being kicked in. It is truly sad. No one has been physically hurt that I know of but the harassment is annoying. Don t be fooled by the police station out front. They are rarely there. In the short time that I stayed at Nubia I saw a knife pulled on one person and a gun pulled on another. All of this took place in broad daylight. No matter which part of the complex you live in the noise is everywhere and can last until 3:00am. So if you have to sleep for an exam, work or have kids living here will be a problem.

1st off Im there at this moment. Living in Nubia Square has been perfect. They have a police sub station which put ease on my parents when dropping me off at my 1st apartment. They staff are very friendly and any problems that I have they are solved within the day. It is quite and that I am not use to due to the fact i stayed in on-campus apartments my 1st yr in school.Other than that I give Nubia a A!!!! :-)

The up keep for the apt is poor as its management. Its hard to find the help you need and when your able find the help it would seem that your somewhat handy family member could do a better job the the maintenance. There been time when i have to report major problems and days will soon become mouths and mouths to never before the problems are solved, if you toilet clogged it will be fixed in no time but if these a mold issue let just say get use it, it was there before you were chances are the i will be the even when your gone. when the apt is renovated for the next renter, damage is not repair but badly covered up. The problem at Nubia Square Apt could fill an encyclopaedia, Nubia Square is not and should not be ones first or really last chose when it comes to searching for a suitable place to live, and as of the security its not very safe due to the entries being open to everyone at all times even if the person does not stay in the apt.

It's important to note that you can get a very decent sized 2 bedroom apartment at this property for less than a 1 bedroom costs through most of the rest of this city. But there's a catch. Since living here, I've had no end to trouble. The power went out over the weekend, because, and i quote, someone tried to hijack power from your apartment at the transformer and blew it out for you. I was without power all weekend during the hottest part of the summer. I called the supposed 24 hour service line at least 20 times over the course of the weekend. By the time Monday rolled around, there were repair people out at the transformer fixing it, and I went into the office, to make sure they were working on my apartment. The person sitting at the desk had the gall to "inform" me that I should have called the 24 hour emergency service line. As if I hadn't left a dozen messages on the answering machine having done just that. 2 months before this, at 10PM, my sink started overflowing. I got to pay cash out of pocket to have this repaired instead of waiting for them to show up at their normal time. There's a gaping pothole in one of the parking spots that's been there for at least 4 months, which surprisingly appeared shortly after they did a full repaving of the parking lot. The quality of the maintenance shows, and this complex is only acceptable if the alternative is living in a cardboard box under 288.

When I first decided to move into Nubia Square I was excited because the apts were decent inside and I was approved in like 10 mins. Once I started living there I had probs w/ my roomate and immidiatly approched liz the apt manager. She specifically told me if I came up with 700 dollars I could break my lease and transfer to another apt. All of a sudden she lost her memory and made me stay there. The management sucks, as a matter of fact she evicted my friend because someone she didn't like came to her house and she saw them that's bull, not only that about half the residents get evicted for no reason at all, the maintenance sucks and they snitch about everything. The outside is extreamly loud making it impossible to sleep not to mention if you live on the first floor you hear everything the person above you does. Peoples apt get broken inbto a lot and the apts price increases every six months and trust they are not worth it. I would reccomend somewhere else although it is close to U of H, TSU, and downtown because those are the only pluses.

Ive been here for 2 years and i dont have a problem with the apts at all. There were complications that came about but the staff worked with me...Other than the staff changing every 3 months and the inside needing repairs its an ok place for the price and location!

This complex is in an ok location if you want to be ne.ar U of H, which is about 5-7 blocks away, if that. Its also only about a 5 minute drive into the heart of downtown Houston. But other than that, it has nothing at all going for it. Its on the edge of third ward, an area with alot of poverty and probably crime. The noise level at night is very bad sometimes. Alot of times, late at night, some of the other residents play their music obnoxiously loud, seemingly oblivious that others may want to sleep. The staff doesnt seem to be very friendly but thats just my personal opinion. they have not done anything personally to me. the complex is almost 100% black. The area surrounding the complex doesnt seem to be the safest but i personally have not encountered any problems. The biggest gripe i have is the noise level and the price. the price is too much for what you get. The only pluses are the proximity to U OF H and downtown. I pay 469 for a one bedroom. I could be paying less and getting more in a better part of town like Montrose or Bellaire. I would not recommend this complex for anyone unless you go to U of H and want to be very close.
