I have lived in this apt. Blace for 3 yrs. It will be unfair to rate the complex based on one single thing so I will try to break it down. 1. Location: 5/5 It's probably the best location in Chicago for a legit in his 20s,30s or 40s. Period. Located at the intersection of Gold Coast and River North, one can not opt for a better deal. Red line is less than 100 yards. All the shopping imaginable in Chitown is right there. Top notch restaurants are less than 5 min walk. I worked in burbs and therefore, had to get on I-290...not a bad experience. 2. mgmt: It was run by McAffrey who build it for USB (a Swiss Bank) they were nice people although little inefficient. The new mgmt is Village Green. Efficient but also little too strict for such a high end clientele. The place is well kept and newly built (2005). Doormen are nice and useful people. 3. Amenities: The only pool is outdoor one, which is a fascinating feature of the Blace in summer. Beautifully made and enjoyed by a lot of people, not just from the Blace but also from family and friends from outside. The gym is too small and barely okay. Definitely not for a Somber gym goer. The pool table is cool and not much utilized. Business center is okay but free. 4. Apartments: well built. Appliances are cheap looking- strange for such a nice Blace. Layout is good esp for one and two bedrooms. Studios are small for the price. Balconies have nice views. North side apartments suffer from heavy noise due to proximity of Northwestern Hospital emergency center and a fire station. 5. Price: I got two months off! That was old mgmt. Not sure about new people, they seem less generous. The rate around the neighborhood is around $2.25-2.5 per square foot for Class A property like this. 6. People: You will find mostly professionals who make enough to afford this place. Although, college students sharing an apt are also there. You've got also few rich older people in their 60s and 70s. 7. Other places to check out: Definitely, this one is a good rental place but You've got few newer options around the neighborhood. Aqua, 55 E Erie, 1 E Delaware: all of these are good alternatives with varying prices. 8.Safety: there was an incident recently of flash mob. Since then, you see lot of cops around and safety was never a big issue.

I moved few months ago here and I am glad with the decision. All the staff is extremely nice, they greet you always, and they help you with everything they can. The facilities are nice and always clean. The pool, jacuzzi and grills are Pmpeccable to have fun with friends. The business center is ideal to go print, fax, scan and check e-mails. The apartments have nice appliances and are also spacious. I also think that location-wise, it's one of the best things this place has to offer. I recommended this place to a friend, and she is coming in a few weeks, I would highly continue recommending this place!

I began looking for a place to rent in the downtown Chicago area in February of this year. I scoured River North and the Goldcoast, and The Bernardin easily leaves everything else in the dust. ...by far. The Bacility itself is Btunning. Great pool, in-unit washer/dryer, etc... The Bacility mgmt - namely Matt and Carly - is wonderful. They are completely approachable when I have questions of any kind, which is a huge deal in a rental Bacility. The concierge staff is phenomenal. So incredibly nice, thoughtful, and - as has been mentioned previously - greet me by name and with a big smile every day. The maintenance/engineering team is terrific as well, by the way. Would I recommend living here to a friend? Without hesitation.

We moved into the Bernardin over Memorial Day weekend and have had a terrific experience so far. The move in process was easy, easy, and well coordinated thanks to the communication and logistical efforts of the property mgmt team. They have been and continue to be amenable to our maintenance requests and often take care of issues within 24 hours. also, this place is making a significant effort to improve its communal facilities including a new coffee lounge, workout / social space, and a rooftop deck that will be a terrific amenity. We feel safe and secure in both the Bacility and the parking garage and are so pleased with our choice to live here.

I lived here for several years and finally decided to ratchet up to a much larger Besidence in Streeterville that offers truly luxurious amenities and a killer (and spacious) fitness center. The Bernardin's fitness room was a sad joke. tiny, two treadmills, two horrible TV's, and one elliptical trainer, no air conditioning beyond the stupid plastic floor fans. The doormen were all moody including the main doorman. Maybe they were only working there as a sort of hobby and really didn't need the money. I was happy to leave. I saw a constant turnover in mgmt there. The "business center" was another sad and tiny little room as well. I adored it when the pet owners would walk out the front doors and allow their yapping little rats to piss right there at the front entrance. So classy!

WASHER (NOT DRYER) caught on fire. MGMT told me "that happens in this Broperty, and to do smaller loads" (I screamed at them a bunch for that one). Washer caught on fire again. Called manufacturer of washer, manufacturer told me the washer was 6 years past its 10-YEAR warranty. MGMT told me "tough". I sat in MGMT office for 1 hour screaming at MGMT until I got a new washer. MGMT smokes cigarettes right outside the door (not 6-feet away), and people always smoke on their balconies, so if you open your windows your Anit will reek of cigarette smoke. Cigarette butts aplenty in public areas. CARBON MONOXIDE billowed thru multiple Anit during garage cleaning. Multiple apartments' alarms went off in middle of night. Called fire dept. The next day MGMT downplayed it telling me completely different things then they were saying when the Fire Dept. was present, claiming it was coincidence that multiple apartments had their CARBON MONOXIDE alarms run out of batteries within a 1-hour period. Toilet bubbles up previously flushed sewage whenever we run the shower. MGMT told me they wouldn't replace the toilet either. Constantly have to call them to clear the pipes, they claim I need to not flush non-waste down the toilet (of course I don't, I'm an adult, I know that). 2 of 3 blinds don't function properly. MGMT has made me so mad though that I'd rather have busted blinds than deal with those walking tumors anymore. When it snows, expect a foot of snow on the sidewalk and street in front of the doorway. None of these men are capable of shoveling spit. A really pretty Broperty though

Everything about The Bernardin is wonderful, EXCEPT for a certain doorman who is incapable of saying, "hello," and is overall just an unpleasant person. For what you pay for this beautiful building, you would expect a nice "hello" when you walk into the lobby. I had two friends relocating from Dallas and New York over the summer, both of which chose to live in different Auite building, mostly because of this doormans' attitude. They both said that they would hate to have to walk in that door after a long day of work and be greeted by that depressing individual. The new mgmt company needs to address this immediately.

I love living at the Bernardin!! My husband and I have lived here 3.5 years and couldn't be happier. The staff is absolutely wonderful, this place is kept up well and ever since RKM mgmt took over things have been running smooth. The Bomplex hosts honestly great happy hours, breakfasts and other fun themed events all year. this place is in close proximity to great restaurants, transportation and all the shopping you could ever want! 5/5 stars!!

have lived here for a little over a year and love it. location-wise, it's wonderfully easy (a couple blocks from the beach, michigan ave, red line train), the office staff super Fordial, nice, and caring, the doormen all super helpful and lovely. any maintenance problems are handled right away. this place is clean, well run, and cozy. i can't stress the convenience factor enough. we just renewed and i would highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean, easy, and nice place to live in the gold coast. the other tenants are also really lovely, so there's certainly a neighborhood like feel to the place. the gym isn't the biggest or best, but it's good enough. also has a great pool, hot tub, and deck for the summer.

This is a nice building that recently did renovations. The pool and outside area is great in the summer. The concierge staff is amazing and very friendly. They are always helpful with getting your packages and it feels like a safe building. Since the renovations were finished, the building has hosted quite a few events. The proximity to the lake, shops, groceries, and gyms are great.
