Short Story: This place sucks. Long Story: I've lived here for over 7 years and it's gotten progressively worse each year. Poor elevator maintenance. Lower caliber tenants and constant changing of property management leads me to leave this review. Any time you have to inform residents to NoT lEt thIEr Dogs ---- in the parking garage tells you enough about your neighbors. I recall witnessing two separate incidents when someone was shot outside of the property and management said nothing. There's plenty of other properties to choose from in the area. I'm just keeping it real. Non Section 8 resident. The good: Location.

They will brag about their amenities but even the simplest things are always broken. I've lived in the building for almost two years and there has always been at least one elevator not working, usually multiple not working. In my two years, I cannot tell you how many times I went to get my clothes from the dryer and they were still soaking wet. When we've had issues with our unit, management takes days/weeks to respond. We had a crack in our ceiling with a leak coming from it that ruined our carpet and furniture. After several requests they finally came to look at it and all they told us was to let it dry. The management company is a pathetic excuse and none of them deserve to have their jobs.

The apartment themselves are fine. The hallways smell like trash and the elevators are slow. Despite all of this, the main reason NOT to live here is the property management. If you run into any issue, and eventually you will, they will NOT help you. They'll give you a smile or write up a nice email, but DO NOTHING.

I have lived here for over a year now and love it. Maintenance and building staff are great. My view is the best, city views at night and water views during the day. They also have snacks on Fridays for the residents

The entry is a big mess, mess is all over the place. Cleandesk policy, never heard off,.. The reception and the manager are rude. The building is extremely and it smells. And there are other companies that sublet apartments and that is, according to me, punishable. The roof terrace is dirty and the bbq's are broken.

This was a very promising building with new management and new property ownership. At the time I moved in in July '17, tenants were promised new elevators, which was one of the major complaints of the property. Everyone was told this would take until October or November to complete. It is now January and the last car still hasn't been put online. Furthermore, the other cars that have been replaced are often broken down. The laundry room has old units, all smell like mold and will ruin your clothes. Repeated attempts to notify management of this and they say "its the renters putting too much soap in their loads." The hallways have old carpet that is disgusting and never vacuumed. The trash rooms on each floor smell horrible and are never actually cleaned. On most floors, the trash doors no longer latch and are often left open. Instead of repairing the doors, they just send messages to the tenants asking them to pay attention to closing the doors. The management staff is generally quite unfriendly in general. They even instituted a policy during the holidays where tenants could only pick up packages from 6-8pm or from like midnight to 10AM. This was because of the overburden of packages being delivered. Instead of hiring more temporary staff to help with the problem, they made it a huge inconvenience for the residents. The gym is nice, large and has good equipment however when something breaks it is broken for months. Also, this is the only complex I toured where towels aren't available in the gym. The locker room has lockers, but they are all broken, have missing locks or are permanently locked shut. Essentially, there is nowhere to lock your belongings when using the gym. The units are very noisy; I can hear my neighbors phone conversations. The heating and cooling units are window units and are very dated. I have 4 in my unit and they all squeal or squeak very loudly. The repair guys just say "they're old, thats how they are." Very expensive to run as well. Heating a 1 bedroom apartment to ~67 degrees in the winter costs as much as a 2500 sq home I had with central gas heat. Crazy. Great location and outstanding view but thats about it. Much better properties around the area.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Absolutely awful management and leasing agents. They have lied about a variety of issues. The building got new management recently, which seemed very exciting... turns out they are some how worse than the past management. The new manager, Phylicia Nettles, is a completely useless human, along with majority of the front desk staff; which has made Axis a very frustrating place to live. Rent is much higher than necessary, and you can find much better deals right in the same area.

This building is horrible to live in. I would not recommend this building to anyone. Elevators - they do not work!! . Be prepared to take the stairs - daily!! Be prepared to get stuck in the elevators. Be prepared to be frustrated daily with the elevators. Dirty - the entire building is dirty. They never clean the hallways of the floors. They are filthy! The gym area although could be great - is dirty! Do not use the steam room because there is mold in it!! Laundry room - machines are never cleaned and smell of mold. Machines are often broken. It is common to see trash and filthy on the floor Doorstaff - RUDE!! Not friendly. Unprofessional. Management - lazy! I have put numerous requests in for issues in my unit, in the building and general issues. None have been handled on time. I have had to call repeatedly to get minor maintenance issues fixed in my unit. They are visibly annoyed should you go into the office to ask for help. Leasing agents - they will lie to you just so you move in and they will only show you certain areas that don't reflect the building. People move out of the building constantly for a reason!

I currently live at Axis apartments and would definitely not recommend living here. For the pros: I do really like my apartment and I enjoy the amenities of the building. The maintenance staff is great, and come very timely (in about 1 month, we average about 5-10 works orders). However, the elevators really make this place un-liveable. I have been stuck in elevators multiple times, and frequently wait for over 30 minutes for one to come. I have missed meetings and have been late to work multiple times. I can understand allowing a bit of extra time for a commute, but when you never know how long it will take you (or whether you will actually make it out of the elevators at all) makes things very difficult. It concerns me because there are several people living in this building who are in wheelchairs or older and cannot walk up/down 60 flights of stairs (which is also pretty unreasonable for people who can as well). We have been quoted a time frame of 2 YEARS to fix the elevators, which seems unreasonable to me. The rent in this building is too high for this kind of issue.

I am personally very sensitive to location and architecture. I could not personally live in the McClurg Court building. On those two points this building is hard to beat. In particular, after you clear the hotel facing Lake Shore Drive and that old building in front, above the 20th floor I believe, the view of the corner one bedrooms is exceptional on the four corners. Those 920SF one bedroom corner apartments are the best in the business for the money. The space is beautiful. That said there is a downside living there, especially if your apartment was not renovated. The individual heating AC units are antiquated and noisy. The building is not well insulated and sound proofed. Elevators takes for ever. On the other hand the inside swimming pool is stylish. The roof top has been renovated and much improved with a party room. Here is the thing: you never want to leave your apartment and that is telling. I don't like what they did to the Lobby. The first renovation with marble replacing terra cotta tiles was cool. The new reception desk was great. The third renovation of the lobby is pain ugly flashy and tasteless.
