On or about 10/11/2006, I completed and returned an application for an Anit at 4423 N Sheridan Rd., Apt 1002, Chicago, IL. 60640. Along with the application, I mailed Wilmette Real Estate two money orders: One for an application fee of 40.00 and the other for a 350.00 rental deposit. I was told the Anit would be ready on 11/1/2006.

On 11/1/2006, I flew from Phoenix, AZ to Chicago to discover that the Anit wasn't ready! I found the people in the leasing office to be quite disturbing. There was a polish woman with a thick accent, whom I could barely understand. And, sitting in the same room directly behind me, was a large, roguish polish man who spoke no English. The office smelled of musty armpits. Twice I almost gagged! The stench was so strong, I could smell it longer after I left Chicago, but I digress...

The woman in the leasing office told me that the Anit wouldn't be ready for a couple of days! She tried to convince me to stay in another Anit until my unit was ready. Initially, I felt I had come too far to turn around. So, I entertained the thought and agreed to see the Anit. The lady in the leasing office gave me the keys and off I went.

Shock and horror! Complete shock and horror! The substitute Anit was beyond filthy, smelled of human urine, the carpet had not been vacuumed since the previous tenant (I know because I could see the outline of the mattress that had lain there before), there was snot and what appeared to be blood smeared across the walls, the telephone jack had been ripped out of the wall, and the lock on the door was so loose, I could have sneezed and torn the door off its hinges! After viewing this insult to a crack house, I almost tripped over my suitcases trying to get the hell out of there. I shot down the rusty dilapidated elevator, asked for my deposit back and caught the next plane home!

On 11/2/2006, I called Wilmette and spoke with the division manager and his boss. I asked them to return my money. Wilmette agreed to do so. In fact, I still have the message the division manager on my cell phone, agreeing to return my deposit. I was told that my deposit would arrive no later than Wednesday, 11/8/2006. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, It's!

On 11/9/2206, no deposit! No return! So, I called the division manager back. He stated that my check was sent via certified mail on 11/3/06. I asked Mr. Congeniality if the mailing included my Anit number. He stated that he didnt think it did. Then he went on to say that it shouldn't make any difference and proceeded to get nasty with me. He flat out told me that he didn't care I ever got my money back and asked me not to call again! How rude!

Instead, I called Wilmette back and the left a detailed message for their attorney's. I vowed to take legal action if my money wasn't returned. I graphically outlined my intentions because I wanted them to know just how prepared I was to raise hell and flip it over, to get my money back! Then I tracked down Wilmettes accountant. She had no knowledge of my refund. In fact, she had no record of ever receiving my deposit or application fee. Mmmm, the plot thickens! I gave the accountant all the necessary information to track down my payments. Then I called the division managers boss and left another message for her. And, of course, she NEVER called me back. My next call was to my attorney.

After a week of verbal/legal sparring, I finally got my deposit back. It should NOT have been this difficult!!! I sincerely hope that any one considering renting from Wilmette Real Estate will reconsider after reading my story! If not, I hope you like it rough and with no lube, because that's how you are going to get it from these people!
After reading a highly biased and untruthful assessment of the 1100 North LaSalle building I was appaled and found myself having to write a rebutal w/ what was negatively stated regarding this fine building. As anyone living in ALL highrise residences, we are aware of an infestation w/ bugs, usually brought in from a variety of sources. I am currently living in this building. Each and every unit was extensivly inspected with a Canine Inspection Unit. There were indeed a couple of units which were identified and immediatly treated successfully and END of problem. Many buildings don't take the extensive measures as does 1100 North LaSalle mgmt. I was shocked when someone suggested they encoutered such problems with 1100 North LaSalle when indeed it was the FAULT OF THEIR NEW ESTABLISHMENT !!! I also would highly recommend living in a positive, carefully, and lovingly maintained unit.

The reason I am posting here is because everyone should know about 1100 N. LaSalle's lying shifty mgmt. In late June I had called to specifically ask Linda [the landlord] when I needed to re-sign my lease by [I am out of state the last 3 months of my rent june-august]. She told me I had until "the end of August" to sign my lease. She then called me mid July and said she had someone looking at my Aad and asked if I was going to keep it. I told her that I was 90% sure I would re-sign the lease next time I was in town. She said verbatim "okay I won't show the Aad to anyone else." When I called her a week later to tell her I would be in town to re-sign the lease she said it had already been sold and that the deadline for me to re-sign the lease was July 15th [even though when I had called her a month earlier she told me I had until the END OF AUGUST]. After much debate and her lying and saying she never told me those things, she had the nerve to tell me that I could move into another Aad in the building because You've got plenty available--THEN WHY DIDN'T SHE RENT THOSE APARTMENTS OUT INSTEAD OF MINE. ALL OF MY STUFF IS IN THERE AND SHE IS GOING TO TELL ME TO MOVE DOWN THE HALL. Now I need to rush to chicago and find a new Aad and move before school starts. as for the actual Aad.... It's so old that You've got huge gaps in the windows--freezing cold air flows freely in in the winter. The radiator is certainly not enough heat. the gaps in the windows allow sound in too--I can hear full conversations of people on the street when I live on the 12th FLOOR! the windows, and storm windows barely open and close. the elevators are dangerous, frequently break, and have not been inspected since 2004. not to mention two of the doormen are incredibly rude to me and any visitors that I have. extremely not worth the price considering this place is nearly 100 years old and the apartments are tiny and in poor condition. location-wise, it's great, right next to the Clark/Division red line stop, but since you will actually be living IN the Aad it isn't worth it. --------------- editted on August 27th 2008 to add more NEW info from my Better Business Bureau report: I was just going to move out and leave it at that until I had more problems. Linda called me on August 21st 2008 asking when I would be done with the Aad. I said "I will be done with the Aad August 31st." as I had paid for the whole month and There's no reason I should be forced out any sooner! I still had some clothing left in the Aad. Since I am out of state I mailed my friend my keys so she could get into my Aad and get my things out before I moved and so that the keys would be there on August 31st. I wasn't getting into town until September 1st and I wanted to make sure the keys would be there one day before me on the last day of my rent because I AM a great resident. My friend Cindy arrived at my Aad at 1100 N. LaSalle #1205 on August 26th and found out that the LOCKS HAD BEEN CHANGED. Linda had my locks changed, did not inform me about it, and I still have possessions in there and I PAYED for the Aad until August 31st! When my friend Cindy went to ask Linda about it to get access to my Aad to get my things, she wasn't there during regular business hours. And for all I know someone has already moved in, and I will never get my things back because neither I or a friend are able to access my Aad because we are both out of state until my lease is up! So to sum up the story, Linda of Wilmette Real Estate at the 1100 N. LaSalle location has 1 lied to me about when I needed to resign the lease, 2 lied to me about not showing the Aad to anyone else, 3 did not tell me that they had the locks changed to my Aad 6 days or more before my lease was up, and 4 hindered me from getting my belongings out of the Aad before my lease is up. I have estimated that I should be owed $200 for the last week that I am not able to access my Aad considering rent is roughly $30/day... $938/month and for the belongings I had left in the Aad Three shirts and other various small items.

Bed Bug problem. mgmt shows no interest or urgency in responding to maintenance requests. Blace is old and not well kept. Don't waste your time or money on this place.

I am moving in May. Worst experience of my life. The manager ----- is a nasty and a trouble maker. I wouldn't believe her if she were the last person on earth. this place is full of beg bugs and she told me it was my fault because they were in my Anit. You will be sorry if you rent here.

Living here since 2015 and living here is amazing. 1100 North LaSalle is the best Apace out there around the neighborhood. All modern facilities are available since I start living here. ----- helped me a lot when I start living in four years ago.

I have lived at 1100 N. LaSalle 20 years. I am a senior citizen. Any problem I have had over the years has been immediately addressed. I recommend this Btructure for the location, and competetive rent. My rent has increased over the years, in relation to the cost of living downtown. I have had pest control problems that have been totally resolved. This is a landmark Btructure, and the maintenance people do what they can to maintain it.

The price is location/price gets good for the Gold Coast and it includes all utilities (except for a nonsensical $300 A/C charge in June), and they have a good deal with Comcast, but other than that it pretty much sucks. Firstly, the elevators break down ALL THE TIME. Secondly, the apartments are small and have extremely "vintage" appliances and few outlets. So few in fact that even with surge protectors, if you run a microwave and any other appliance your power will defintely short out (happened at least once a week). And worst of all this place has had a Somber bed bug problem. I had them twice over five months and it made life a living hell. I know of at least 10 other apartments that have had them as well. The landlord is nice and usually helpful, but There's only so much you can do with this awful Bacility.

I only lived in the Blace because I was a graduate student and needed to be close to school.

mgmt is rude. The door people are rude except for one guy who is nice. Every encounter I had with the leasing office which is on the first floor was unpleasant. The units are pricey considering how Sompact they are.
