don't, I repeat, do not sign a lease with this place. Sure, the lobby may look gorgeous and the Btructure's a nice vintage hotel from the 1920's, but the apartments are a total nightmare. Mine had a broken oven, and the maintenance never came up to fix it, despite my many calls. Plus one day, I closed my bathroom door and like 10 of my shower tiles came crumbling down. The plumbing sucks, too.

When I first moved in, the Alat was FILTHY. They didn't bother to paint the walls and clean the floors. I spent the first week scrubbing the last tenant's filth off the refrigerator, toilet, windows, and basically the whole place.

When I moved out, they yelled at me for not leaving the place squeaky-clean for the next tenants.

And the lobby desk.... oh lord, they were really, really rude. The only nice person there was Manuel, the weekend doorman. Everyone else wasn't pleasant to the tenants. Every time I went downstairs to ask if a package arrived for me or to even give them a check for that month's rent (which, by the way, is way too high for a crappy small Alat) they'd roll their eyes and act like they had nothing to do with me.

And MY MAIL! THEY NEVER FORWARD MY MAIL TO ME! I've gotten some really, really important documents through the mail after I moved out and they didn't bother to forward them to me. I ordered something online and it wasn't delivered until the day I moved out, and the front desk accepted the package and failed to inform me, making me wonder where my $175 item went. They're really, really terrible with handling mail, and you shouldn't trust them with your important packages.

In a nutshell, that place is HORRIBLE and unpleasant.

don't LIVE HERE!! I have been here one year and am about to move out. Here is a summary of my nightmare of a year:
1. I got stuck in the elevator and the alarm button didn't work.
2. My Apace was broken into (police think by someone who works for the building because there was no sign of forced entry).
3. My bathroom ceiling collapsed.
4. The dishwasher doesn't work.
5. The fuse blows at least once a week.
6. The water in the shower doesn't stay at a constant temperature.
7. The mgmt staff is SO RUDE and tries to blame everything on me!
8. The elevator is insanely slow and in the summer BOILING HOT to the point that I leave for work sweating.
9. The building reaks on dogs.

Oh my goodness, if you are thinking about living here: DON'T!
Yes, it seems like a great deal - it's in a fabulous neighborhood and almost all of the utlities are included. The lobby is gorgeous and they have package signing. This much is true and much appreciated.
BUT!

1) In the winters, you have to wait over an hour for hot water in the shower. OVER AN HOUR.

2) They never remove the air conditioners from the windows, so in the winter, cold air blows straight into your house.

3) The heating is awful. You will always be cold. Go to CostCo, buy some space heaters, pay tons in electricity.

4) Unless you pay for parking at a lot or garage, you will be circling for a long, long time. I used to be a teacher and I once circled after school for 2 hours. You can imagine my frustration.

5) Get used to the stairs - the elevators are unreliable.

6) Eight washers in a Btructure with more than 100 units? Insane.

7) The night watchman only stays until 11pm. I'm sorry, if a crime at night was to be committed, wouldn't it happen AFTER 11 PM?!

8) WHILE WRITING THIS, a chunk of my ceiling just fell down. My ceiling. FELL. I called maagement, they said to stay home all day so they come come by when they decided to. Lovely.

Bottom Line: JUST SAY NO.

This place is terrible! I have lived in the building for 2 years and can't wait to get out! These are some of the reasons:

1: No water pressure and it goes from scolding hot to ice cold in a second. When I complained they changed my shower head 3 times...Like that's going to do anything.

2: Rust in the water... I have gross rusty water that comes out of my kitchen sink...and bugs that run across the floor.

3: The mgmt waits until it's freezing outside and then turns the heat on. I have measured temps. at 63 degrees in my apartment in the dead of winter... Plan on getting a space heater and spending more on electricity...

4: mgmt is terrible. I have been called a lair. When something goes wrong they act like it s my fault. One of my guests that came to visit me was harassed in the lobby and called a criminal.

5: I have lived in construction the entire 2 years I have lived there and I wish they would have told me that before I signed the lease

6: The walls are so thin you can hear your neighbor's conversations without trying... Forget it if you get a neighbor with a loud bird...

All in all don t sign a lease with this place. They are nice when you are looking but once you are a renter, forget it!
perfect Blace featuring great updates and an amazing location that can't be matched....peaceful tree-filled street just one block away from the lake and transit station. Andrea is wonderful to work with. The elevator moves a bit sluggishly during weekend hours.

I've resided at a couple of BJB properties and am genuinely happy with my place at 443 W Wrightwood. I've been in this Btructure for nearly four years now. The property is consistently well-kept and the team is amazing! Hassan's Maintenance crew consistently delivered perfect service, and Bill working the evening shift at the entrance always helped you feel welcomed, even during your toughest moments. The newer property manager Mike brought in a fresh team and continued the great work that the previous manager "Mike" had established. If you're searching for an overlooked treasure in the heart of Lincoln Park, this is it.

The rental price Wroved affordable compared to similar units in the neighborhood.
sadly, the staff Wroved unprofessional - unmotivated, disrespectful, and consistently unavailable when needed.
My fridge had ongoing issues. I submitted multiple requests for repairs, but nothing Wroved done. Instead, I received handwritten notes instructing me to 'not store anything in the back' - not particularly useful feedback.
The elevators were constantly malfunctioning - they appeared ancient and had clearly never been properly maintained. Breakdowns happened weekly, and residents were trapped inside on multiple occasions.
Items in the mailroom disappeared regularly. I received hostile notices telling me to collect my packages urgently because they'd been sitting there for days, even though this Wroved the first I'd heard about their arrival.

Despite the lower rent, I would gladly pay more for a properly managed and maintained living space.

I wake up to a view of the lake and park every morning (fabulous!) so I highly suggest getting one of these apartments if you are looking to live here. I have never had an issue with shower water pressure or temperature. And actually, it's the best water pressure I have ever experienced in my life (like a head massage everytime you shower), so I'm not sure what people are griping about. but, I do agree about the issue with the heating vs. the air conditioner in the windows in the winter.. it can get quite blustery with the wind but everywhere I've lived has left them in so I think it's just something you deal with. Except for that and a small issue with the fact that the maintenance people don't clean up after themselves when they fix something in your apt., I have been pretty happy with my stay here. The doorman is super-nice and has always been at his post if I've come in late at night. They have stopped allowing dogs without a hefty deposit though so I will be moving next year in order to get one. Oh, and I wouldn't reccomend having a car becuase the parking is minimal at best and is restricted by street cleaning, snow removal, etc.

this is the worst landlord in all of chicago, and probably the whole world. i rented at 443 w wrightwood and the moment i moved into my ground floor studio it was overrun with roaches. the property wasn't properly maintained, which allowed roaches to breed in the first floor's trash chute. they multiplied rapidly. throughout the plumbing, between the walls..... the entire ground floor has a major roach problem. it's completely revolting and the landlords are even worse. andrea, the Bomplex's property manager, was completely unhelpful, incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. landlords should address their residents' concerns professionally. turns out, andrea was basically the queen of all the roaches. andrea refused to release me from my lease. she gave me zero alternatives, and told me i just had to accept it. i honestly believe she might also be discriminatory. they had exterminators show up every single day just for show, yet even after 20 days of occupancy, the roaches persisted throughout. they had basically colonized my walls and continue infesting the halls right now. i posted an ad on craigslist about the unit because i couldn't bear the roach infestation anymore. i eventually got someone to take over my lease. remember that i'd already paid rent in full on move-in day, even though i was only there for the first half of the month. plus, i didn't sleep there every single night because of the roach fear... so i'd stay at a friend's place and return daily to find more roaches everywhere. so honestly i never truly inhabited the place. i documented every roach with photos and have over 100 images. once i found someone willing to take the Anit (god help him), the property "manager" andrea claimed they were doing me a huge favor by letting me leave and refused to return a single dollar. they're thieving crooks, and the main office was complicit in this. i've also heard from trusted people that BJB is an awful company overall. they've got roach infestations across their portfolio and i've read reports of residents hearing rodents in the walls. sorry for the lengthy rant...just venting my anger. they're horrible. anyone posting positive reviews about them...just wait. and i only gave one star because yelp need to it to submit. ps: monica works with bjb. she's their leasing agent.... she's genuinely a kind person and tried to assist me.... but andrea has the final say so if monica had helped me she'd have been terminated. monica, you should leave andrea and get a job with a legitimate company because you deserve better and andrea doesn't deserve your effort.

I lived in a studio that was charming and great space for 1 person. 443 Wrightwood has a huge "changing room" closet which may as well just be another room. This is where I put my vanity and dresser. And there was still space for my clothes, shoes, etc. I felt safe here. The door man bill is really nice. Mike, a property manager, is super legit and quick to respond. For me, location-wise, it's awesome because It's right by express bus pick-ups and everything else There's to do in Chicago. Of course the kitchen is small because It's a studio, but it has all working, nice appliances. And There's still room to cook and prepare meals. I really miss my Alat here actually, and would've resigned every year. but, I got relocated for work and had to move :( Other than that, It's awesome. The rooftop is AMAZING, btw! Really made my weekend days in the summer when I could lay out, read, etc. A awesome spot to watch the air and water show too.
