I will start off with the positive. For what you pay for a unit in this highrise, you do receive a lot. The views are decent, most units have a balcony, and the laundry rooms/market/dry cleaners/FFC gym are convenient for high rise living. THAT BEING SAID, I cannot recommend that anyone should move in here for the following reasons. I lived here for three years. In order to move in, you have to provide a deposit check and schedule a move in time. Okay, not a major deal, sounds reasonable. BUT, they fail to mention that your moving truck must be under a certain size or the engineers will not let the movers pull the truck in to unload: end result... movers had to unload into the garbage reeking loading dock, then move everything again up into the apartment, resulting in twice the time and a 700 dollar moving bill. The following few years were relatively calm, with no major inconveniences until the neighbors across the hall decided they had needed to do a gut rehab of the unit for new renters. This resulted in six weeks of hammering/sawing/thumbing/loud yelling/malicious odors wafting through the vents into my apartment from 8am sharp until 5-6pm everyday. Would not have been so muc of a problem, except the fact I work night shift and needed to sleep through this time in order to function in a healthcare position. We were promised by the snippy property manager that this would only be two weeks, it was six. When I came down to complain a second time, the person living under that unit was also there complaining, and the manager basically told us, "Oh well, deal with it, because they have to do their work." Then came the ordeal of attempting to move out of this building. I knew a month ahead of time I would be moving. I set up movers, making sure they used the correct sized truck, and had everything set for August first. I came down to the property manager on July 2nd to reserve the elevator to move out and got a delightful, "no, sorry, the elevator is booked. YOU CAN'T MOVE OUT THAT DAY." Plain as that. I delightfully responded I have to be out that day because I cannot move in to my new place until that day, so I have to do it that day whether they like it or not. No response. I was kind enough to beg and plead to move in July 31st, and rescheduled the movers. I went down again to reserve the elevator, and was once again told "the elavator was booked, I can't move that day". I asked to see the property manager, becoming very frustrated that I was basically being held hostage in my building. I kept my cool, explaining that I work twelve hour shifts and the only next day I have off during their restricted moving times is that day. The property manager was the farthest thing from professional, and attempted to create a scene by making it seem like I was threatening. She kept saying to lower my voice, despite the fact I was speaking a normal tone, and whenever I asked her "Well, what are my options?" several times, I was told that "You need to drop the attitude" in an incredibly demeaning way. Her final insult was to turn her back, walk away, and say "You have NO options." After becoming so upset I was shaking, I had to involve the unit owner, my landlord to get a move out time, which I got one hour on a day when I was supposed to work. I had to rearrange my work schedule, rent a storage unit, and use movers on two seperate days because of this unprofessional property manager, which cost me an additional 400 dollars of moving expenses. PROS: Comfortable luxury living, worth the price you pay. CONS: Insidiously unprofessional building managers with a power complex. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I have lived in the building for the past year, I have a 12th floor 1-bedroom and I absolutely love it. I have a beautiful view of the lake and the city and the rent I am paying is very comparable to the other building in the neighborhood. Water pressure is excellent, maintenance is fast and the office staff is courtious. They take packages if you're not home and there is always a doorman on duty. I am planning on staying for a long time, unless my job relocates me next year.

This apartment building has two great aspects - the tolerance of dogs, and the amazing views. Other than that, I would stay away. The door men are so rude, both to residents and guests. They also have a hard time watching the door. A neighbor of mine has a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, and the doormen have let him upstairs to her apartment numerous times. They refused to stop until they were threatened with repercussions from the Chicago Police. What is the point of paying for door men that can not stop criminals from entering the building?? The balcony is infested with spiders from July to December - HUGE fast spiders. Eww. The space is limited and I can hear every conversation my neighbors have. That is, however, almost the only interaction I have with fellow residents. There seems to be a rule here that no one wants to speak to anyone else. Very strange, and at times eerie. The management office is always full of employees, but yet they act like you are a huge waste of time whenever you ask for assistance or give a comment. They like to roll their eyes and add in little sarcastic comments which they think others can't notice.

I lived here for two years before the place went condo. My apartment was more like a closet than an apartment, but the view was unbelievable. The only problem was my balcony was always overrun with spiders, so I never wanted to go out there. Gym and pool were nice, although my entire two years there there was a loose light above the pool and I lived in fear that it would fall and I would be electrocuted while swimming. Door staff was always very rude, but the cab and bus service were unbelievable. The parking attendants were SOOO nice and made for a pleasant morning.

I lived at the New York for several years before it went condo. The views are as good as the other reviewers have said, the air conditioning/heat were fine for me, and the bus service is unbelievable (and if you take cabs they are almost always in cue).

The units are small. I don't remember the noise problem being quite as bad as some have said, but I do remember it being noisy and the bedroom wall being thin. I also remember odors wafting into the unit from the heating vent or small gaps near the sprinklers.

That said, I would have bought my unit when it went condo but-for the horrific management of the new owner (American Invsco). Lied through their teeth. Attitude up the wazoo. And what the others said about the out-clause is true: these guys coined the phrase "buy or goodbye" when converting a building to a condo and won't hesitate to give you your walking papers if they can.

It´s a beautiful building with amazing views, and many almost every apartment has one or more balconies. There is currently a new nice gym in the building, but it costs about $80/month (not sure if there´s a discount for building residents, since it´s owned/operated by a chain). There´s also a little deli/convenience store and a dry cleaner in the building.

The drawbacks are: very thin walls! I can´t count the number of times I had to go sleep on the couch because my neighbor was making too much noise to sleep in my bedroom. Also being a condo building, if you rent from the building owner, you will be on a month-to-month lease, so they can kick you out with 30 days notice if they sell the place. Try to find a unit owned by an investor. They are often improved (though pricier) and you can get a normal lease. Also some of the windows were drafty even after we complained about them and they "fixed" them.

Great location.

Great location and good views from certain units, but all the drawbacks do not outweigh the drawbacks -- super thin walls, unprofessional with-an-attitude staff, overpriced, and the possibility of being kicked out with very short notice due to condo conversion. Place is ok, but recommend finding better alternatives.

Great place to live, lots of amenities, but be careful of the out clause in your lease. The Building is going condo, so they can kick you out on 30 days notice.
