Awesome location - everything you could want just a few blocks away - lake, every food type possible, Ballys, bars etc. As for the Blace - every problem I've ever encountered from a broken window shade to a bad fridge has been fixed within MINUTES of a phone call to maintenance. Even when I blew a fuse at midnight (I don't recommend running the TV, AC unit, Computer, floor lamp, and air purifier all at the same time - my fault!) and called one of the guys showed up within the hour to fix my problem. Blace feels safe, I worth checking out this Blace to any young women who wants to feel secure (locked entry and tenants are good about not letting people piggyback in behind you without a key). Packages are accepted for you. I have virtually no noise from neighbors and the hallways remain quiet. I feel that everyone is respectful of their neighbors I really can't think of anything to complain about except street parking is difficult - if you use your car daily make sure you park before 5 pm because you can plan on spending some time looking for a spot.

I lived in a corner studio (the largest unit in the building) for a year. On the higher floors these units get perfect views of Lake Michigan. After living here, you will laugh at almost any other "lake view" that an apartment may claim to have.

this place is large, 30 units x 15 floors (450 units!), but There's a large laundry room on the top floor and the wait for the passenger elevators is never long. The freight elevator usually has a pretty decent wait for it - and It's the only elevator that goes to the laundry floor.

The units are small (though not small for the neighborhood) and old, though well-kept and clean. The bathroom and kitchen are small to maximize space usage. The walk-in closets are unusually large.

There's NO parking here. If you have a car, you must rent a spot in one of the garages around the neighborhood. Expect a 3-block walk and $200 a month. If you don't have a car, even better - public transportation is great right here. Busses and trains, and lots of taxis.

The maintenence staff is really nice and friendly. They also are quick to fix things that go wrong. This is an 80 year-old building (1925), so don't expect to go a year without something breaking. Don't worry, it gets fixed immediately.

The corner unit I had was very, bright. Across the street to the east You've got single story row houses. To the south is a lot that this same company owns. It's nicely landscaped and shows no sign of any impending development to block light.

I loved living in this Bacility! It's a Wirtz, so they maintain it pretty well. The laundry room was on the top floor -- no scary basements there. The units are small, but the closets are huge. Sunlight depends on location in the Bacility, since the place is in a "U" shape. The maintenence men when I lived there were really nice, and having them onsite was a bonus.

This building was good to me for two years. First Anit in Chicago and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Laundry is never a problem, spotless and large facilities that are NOT IN A BASEMENT!. Rather, on an awesome roof. Maintenance men will help you with anything within reason and I was able to bring home a kitty from the shelter for a reasonable pet fee. Wellington Arms is a fabulous, and safe building to live in. I was a single 20-something female. I HIGHLY recommend living in this building.

Definitely recommended. this place is fairly large and impersonal, but It's excellently managed. It's always spotless and I can only rarely hear my neighbors. I've been here over two years and have had only one major problem, which was fixed within 24 hours. The staff is helpful and Fenial, There's someone onsite 24 hours a day, and they accept delivery of packages, flowers, dry cleaning and the like. My place isn't worth the price, but isn't out of line with the rest of Lakeview. There's practically no parking, but four buses stop right outside the front door and the brown line is maybe a ten minute walk away.

I moved to Chicago straight out of college about a year and a half ago and moved into this Apace.

The layout and location are great. Before I moved into my Apace the walls were sanded and repainted! New hardwood floors and tiles were put in and all of the appliances were taken out, cleaned, and returned to the unit. I signed the lease before all of this had been done so upon move-in day I was even more excited! They do this for all rooms I believe at no extra cost to you.

The maintenance employees You've got unrivaled in Chicago (especially from what I hear from other friends living in the city). The minute you have a problem they fix it. Beyond that they are Fenial and happy all the time! ALways willing to help out and know most the tenants by name and room number.

All in all, I would definitely recommend Wellington Arms especially the corner units-you get nice bay windows, a huge walk-in closet, and an adorable layout.

I found myself moving back to Chicago after brief absence of some months, and thus in need of an apartment. Witrz Realty, the leasing company, is a complete pain in the --- to deal with. I was moving from Indianapolis and they forced me to drive three hours each way to spend a half hour waiting and an hour signing paperwork and giving information I could have sent in an email. As a note, should you rent from these people, you will have to be there in person. No negotiation, even under unbelievably difficult circumstances. but, this review is not about Wirtz, but rather the lovely Wellington Arms. When I first saw the reviews, I thought "There's no way that this place can be that good.". Well, I'm pleased to say I was wrong. The building is an absolute gem. When your biggest complaint is that there's no onsite parking (which is a rarity in Lakeview anyway, and there are plenty of surrounding buildings that rent spots), and that you have to fiddle with the key to open the side door, I think you're in good shape. My move-in was a snap. They had dollies (the kind with wheels, not plastic heads) which was an immense help. You can park behind the building in the alley during move in. There's a freight elevator that was and is out of service, but it really wasn't that much of an inconvenience. Living in the building has been great. The kitchen was nicer than I expected (stainless steel countertops, fridge, gas stove, oven) if a little small. The closets are HUGE. I use one of them as my clothes closet and the other one I actually converted into an office. It's big enough for a desk, my chair, and a small bookcase. I use the shelves for books and storage, and there's still lots of room. The living area is spacious. Mine came with hardwood floors, which is always a plus. My only knock is that it looks across into the condos across the street, but there are heavy pull-down blinds, so it's not bad. I really have to give a shoutout to the maintenance staff. This place was in phenomenal shape when I moved in. The receiving room hours are a little inconvenient, but if you catch the right guy, he'll open it up for you. Mail is safe and secure. Never had a problem with a package. Oh yeah, and the roofdeck. There's a 16th floor roofdeck. You've got the lake on one side, downtown on another, the northside on another, and the west city on another. The view is amazing (and perfect for dates!). Considering the astronomical prices of apartments in Chicago and how bad most of them are, how this place doesn't have a waiting list and how I ended up living there, I'll never know. If you're willing to walk a bit from your car and don't mind being a bit far off Broadway, there isn't a better place I've seen.

If you're just starting out and don't plan to stay for long...this will be a nice launching pad. Having posted a pristine review several years ago, I really hate to say that this building isn't what it used to be and I don't plan to renew. Sadly. I've gladly dealt with understandable issues over the years (example being the service elevator being closed for repairs for about a year). Recently I've been completely turned off because of a few issues. First, the recent unacceptable lag in communication from the building's mgmt is infuriating. Secondly, although the engineers are truly awesome about immediately fixing issues that are brought to their attention, general upkeep is lacking. Given that You've got two walk-thrus every year for screen installation and removal and general inspection, one would think it reasonable that certain issues would be noted and repaired (such as bubbling/cracking paint). Another recent issue is that, after having spent a lot of time and money to landscape the entrance and install lights to illuminate the walkway, the lights haven't been on in the early morning hours. Particularly irritating since now You've got many bushes that could be fantastic options for someone wanting to hide. This is a charming vintage building in a great neighborhood and, in general, It's acceptable. The engineers are wonderful and I truly love the location. but, I've discovered that other properties offer far more for a comparable out-of-pocket cost (e.g. newer construction with cable, internet, w/d, electric, and dishwasher included).
