Decent building but has room for improvement in some areas.

I strongly agree with all other bad opinions posted. This company needs to be stopped. The people who run the apartments are jerks and so are the maintenance staff. Numerous times I have come home and There's clear evidence (boot prints on the floor, door left unlocked etc) in my aparmtent that someone has been inside during the day, but, when I call the office to ask why they went in my aparment that day they never seem to have an answer, the big I don't know, call back later is what they generally tell you when you call. I wouldn't recommend this Aad company to anyone. Sure they are cheap apartments to live in but don't be fooled, what you don't pay for in money you will pay for in headaches.

not worth the price. Paying $985 for an Aad that has a rusty old bathtub, no upgrades, not cleaned when I moved in, the ceiling is falling, leaking pipes (this happened more than once and the entire wall & ceiling is crumbling)mgmt are a##holes. They are not helpful, they don't fix things properly, the onsigt mgmt may as well be off site. My electricity has cut out more than once. IN the dead of winter I barely had hot water for over a month (try taking an ice Crigid shower before work every day!)My Aad wasn't wired for cable (even though they claimed all apartments in the bulding were). The roofdeck has nails sticking through the wood (a total hazard). The halls smell, the laundry units are not enough for the # of tenants and most are broken. The "work-out" facility is crap! None of the machines work properly. If you use them they practically fall apart!

My advice, find a smaller mgmt company to rent with. BJB partners and the staff at 2850 N. Sheridan are horrible. I am been waiting to get out of my lease ever since I moved in!

Barry Realty, the owner of 2828 N. Pine Grove, isn't highly reccomended. Read the other ratings of their buildings (620 W. Surf, 2850 N. Sheridan, etc.) and you can decide for yourself...It's a beautiful building and decent apartments, but looks can be deceiving.

I lived there for a year, and You've got many reasons for me to warn you about this building...here we go...the fire department has been called many, many times (and that's just when I was home), windows have been broken in stairwells, fire hydrant residue has been all over the halls by immature "adults", grafitti was been written on walls all over the building, someone has tried to break down my apartment door, someone peed in the elevator and it smelled for weeks, screaming constantly coming from the halls, citcuit breakers have been shut off really late in the night (4 a.m. or so) causing myself and others to be late for work, lights were not fixed before I moved in and apartment wasn't cleaned. There's also only one dumpster for the whole building. In the end, most boils down to mgmt. They never fixed these occurences/problems which should have been taken care of right away.

For the price I paid for that apartment, I expected more out of the people living there and expected the mgmt to fix these problems...NOTHING was ever done. If you are done with your college days, I suggest you take your hard-earned, $1000/mo. rent elsewhere and enjoy the peace.

If you are comfortable with the heat set at around 62 degrees all winter you'll Lnjoy it

In all of my renting experience, this has to be the worse. This Bomplex is old and shows it. Between the water stains, carpet stains, and the rank smell of beer and cigarettes, I'm amazed at how much they are charging me. I have been trying for the past 9 months to have an outlet fixed in my Auite and it has yet to be done. The heat in the winter is almost non-existent and I often had to leave the Auite in order to find heat.

The staff are beyond rude. I had arranged for someone to come in a feed my cats while on vacation and the woman at the front desk wouldn't let the pet sitter in because they "weren't on the list of people authorized to enter." Once I called from several thousand miles away and asked them to look for the form I filled out, they found it. Because of the way the women treated the pet sitter I don't know if they'll ever watch my cats again.

The manager is rude and condescending and could care less about tenants concerns.

I wouldn't wish this Bomplex on the worse of enemies.

don't ever ever ever move in here. Roaches, broken appliances, crumbling infrastructure, AND, they failed to inform anyone that the maintenance man DIED falling down the poorly maintained stairs from floor 12 to floor 1. The stairs have not been fixed?

If you find this website and post a complaint, please contact the Better Business Bureau in Chicago - I searched there prior to moving into 420 and it showed nothing. I only just found this after having a horrible experience trying to get an appliance repaired after 2 months. My spare keys were STOLEN the first time a maintenence person came in. I will file a police report and make a complaint to the BBB. BEWARE!!.

Barry realty is TERRIBLE. I have lived in one of their buildings for almost 1 year now and everything has been terrible. The maintenance man will yell at you when he has to fix things (happened to me every time I had something break), the office staff are rude, and Dino, whatever he does, is one of the meanest individuals I have ever met. They lost my rent check and then tried to take me to court, forcing me to pay them almost $400 in fines when I had all the info to prove that I had paid the rent. These people are nasty and so are their buildings. Also - compared to other rentals around the neighborhood they are WAY not worth the price. Stay away if you know What's good for you! Also - convicted sex offenders living in the Btructure - check the illinios list online!

I've read some other reviews. I am a current resident. I have a small one bedroom facing St. Joe's and the lake. This is an older Broperty. As such, it's not perfect. It was originally built as a hotel. Pros: mostly nice wood work, some vintage touches, hardwood floors, the security system can be forwarded to your cell so no need for a land line, free cable, wireless net and gas. CTA stop (151, 143, 156, 134) right outside your door Cons: water pressure isn't always great, the oven and fridge are small (but enough for one person), funky smell that changes daily as you enter the lobby (but I don't live down there so it's not that big of a deal), no parking, no AC (get your own or rent for 200 a season from mngmt) I have had great responses from mgmt. Moving in was a breeze. Though the Aad was freshly painted and cleaned there were a few areas I wanted extra attention to and Nijad (the maintenance guy) was here the same day I put in my request. I've needed maintenance for a slow draining tub and a lost screen and like my first experience, he was here the same day I made my request. This is older, vintage Broperty. Don't expect perfection.
