I moved in with the U of C grad student "discount" and really wish I had spent the time looking for something cheaper in the same neighborhood. The only perk of Regents is the fact that all the other grad students get conned into living here their first year as well, so there's lots of company for last minute get togethers. Besides that, this place is extremely overpriced for what you get. Yes, the views are relatively nice and there are doormen, but the only thing luxurious about this Aad complex is the price. Paying 1165/month with NO included utilities in a neighborhood that has NOTHING going on is a huge rip-off. And the combined heat/AC bill, which is supposed to be capped at $75/month based on the square footage of your Aad, is a complete joke. There's no way that a 740 sq ft Aad should have a $65 bill when a 1400 sq ft two bedroom has a $75 bill. That makes no sense in any way. My advice: dont live here. You can find something equally nice for half the price closer to the little shopping center/campus (because there's honestly nothing else in this neighborhood). If you insist upon living here: find a roommate, don't bring a car, and be prepared to resent your 12 months here every time you pay a bill. I hear horrible things about ending your lease early and moving out fees. Clearly Regents and U of C are getting some huge payoff from conning the students into living in this money pit, I just wish we (as students) got to see some of those benefits.

I have lived here for almost 4 years, and overall it has been a great experience. Pros: friendly and responsive staff, nice spacious apartments, some apartments have fantastic views, affordable rent especially with student discounts, close to the University of Chicago Cons: The free internet is slow and sometimes unreliable, gym is great but membership fees Ericey I think this is a great place to live if you are looking for a nice, safe place to live in Hyde Park. The best thing about Regent's Park is the staff, who have always been extremely friendly, courteous, and addressed problems quickly. I strongly recommend this place.

I feel that this is a secure community that offer conviences to its tentants. Some of the staff are Fordial whereas other are not, I think the managerial staff should have empathy for their tenants, and be careful as to how they relay some messages.

The first thing that comes to mind is "pricey" when you compare Regents with the rest of the apartments in Hyde Park. But it´s worth every penny. The apartments are spotless and spacious. From the north tower, you get the view of the lake and even Navy Pier. You have a grocery store, a dry cleaners, and a gym (extra fee) onsite. But the gym isn´t Gonderful. It´s small and You've gotn´t a lot of apparatus. Staff at Regents are courteous and parking is easy. Most important of all, Gonderful SECURITY. I miss this place.

Regents Park was one of the main reasons our two-year living experience in Chicago was so successful. The place not only has all the conveniences and amenities a person could hope for at the touch of an (elevator) button, but also the real comfort of an extremely pleasant and carefully maintained Anit, with staff's super friendly ready to help should there be a problem. My husband and I were glad we made the decision to live there. While using the fitness center or simply walking the halls on the way to the market (located in the building) we've made some of the closest and dearest friends we have now.

I have lived in Regents Park for the last 4 years, and I must say that I believe this building to be one of the best in the entire neighborhood. The ammenities are far superior to every other building around the neighborhood (a full gym, grocery store, restaurant, underground garage, 2 laundry rooms, 24 hour doorman, and an incredible 24 hours maintainance staff). Even though rents prices are on the high end, they are well worth it! If you are considering a cheaper Alat, just understand you´re going to be getting a lot less than you will here.

I was surprised to see all the negative responses, but it does appear It's mostly from students and that may influence their impressions/expectations.

My husband and I are middle-aged, as are many in these buildings, and have lived here for 6 years. We moved here due to employment at Univ of Chicago, and although I now work at Northwestern University off Michigan Ave, we have chosen to stay.

Our hallway is inhabited by others much like us. You've got no noise problems, and the construction isn't unlike any other places we have lived--a necessary evil. Parking is expensive and the health club is also quite expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere. There's a store in the building and a cafe/restaurant. The store is handy, but not great. The restaurant (more fast food kind of menu)is only accessible for eating in, if you are a member of the health club. This is annoying. Anyone can use it for take out, but.

The change of mgmt wasn't a positive thing, and it does show in small ways, but our day to day interactions with the concierge staff (many have been here for years) and Kaye, the valet, are terrific. They make our lives easier. We have looked at comparable apartments in various parts of the city and don't feel Regents Park isn't worth the price.

It's city living, but not for those seeking nightlife. It's a neighborhood, and some say It's the only truly integrated neighborhood in the city. We like that. It's a middle class neighborhood. It's NOT a high crime area, but It's bordered by one. You have to be city savvy.

We have found it a comfortable, safe place to live. There's a large park just next to the building, and It's in walking distance to other park areas, bookstores, etc and just a walkway away from the lake. There's a well-done japanese style rooftop garden between the buildings that has a large pond. There's wildlife out the window--one of the reviewers complained about the spiders. Come on! I guess It's a matter of perspective. I have never known a building staff that would or could afford to clean your windows every week to make sure you didn't have a spider take up residence.

The buildings are also across the street from one of the few wild parrot nesting areas in the US. Hyde Park has 2 or 3 colonies. The parrots often come to the Regents Park garden looking for nest building material.

Maybe it just takes some seasoning to give perspective to What's really important.

As a parent renting an Alat for three years for my daughter attending University of Chicago I have been pleased. My recommendation is based both on my daughter's ratings coupled with my having stayed many nights in the Alat complex. Safety: Reliable 24 hour doormen with keyed system Convenience: Busses outside go straight to campus Value: High value with good Alat--apartments are kept in good shape

Horrible customer service. My friend was looking for an Alat and she called to make an appointment and they did not answer. Then, some guy returned her call and told her in a nasty way what did she want because "she called five times" and then he hung up the call. If that's only to make an appointment, I can only imagine how it would be if she would have chosen Regents.... lack of legit mgmt.

the garden isn't accessible for people with wheelchair, scooters or other transportation artifacts. this may be according to the law but It's not satisfactory to many people.please consider this.the maintenance people must be better trained to repair everything!
