This place has a major ROACH problem. It's disgusting. They've been in my apartment, get this, like six times in a two month span. This place sucks. They don't clean the windows so you can barely see outside from the all the build-up from the elements from all four seasons. The carpet in the hallway is dull and dingy and dirty looks like its been there since they built the place back in 1954. The elevators are old and smelly. I have a great view of the lake but can barely see it through all the "grub" on the windows. I am seriously contemplating not paying my rent so they can kick me out. I can't bare the thought of another five months in this ---- hole before my lease is up. PLEASE. I AM WARNING YOU NOW, DONT RENT HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Oh my goodness - I LOVE this building. Just moved into a one-bedroom with a lake view and couldn't be happier. Hardwood floors, updated appliances and cabinets. The doorstaff is extremely polite and seems to know every resident by name. Minera, the leasing manager, is very kind and helpful. I'm so glad I chose this building. It's clean and friendly and the Sheridan/Bryn Mawr area has so much to offer!

Absolute worst apartment building I have ever lived in. Parking is hard to find unless you want to walk about 10 minutes. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. And since the shape of the building is like a W you can hear people from across the court yard from you if they are being loud. The apartment looks nice and landscaped but 1 elevator is constantly going out of service and the security isn't there. There's a door person but most of the time they are off smoking. The one late night a bum was sleeping behind one of the trees INSIDE the first set of doors. I waited 1 hour for the doorman to show up so I could let them know but they never showed up. Also I used a wrong key to get into the back enterance and the wrong key worked to get in after wiggling it around for a minute. There are no lights in the bedroom except for the closet light and the string breaks off super easy. Maintenance was of normal speed but exterminators were hard to come by. There was a super bad roach problem for about 4 months during my lease. They came and sprayed only once a month. Management looked at us funny when we said that we stilled had roaches. It got so bad we had to call the corporate company in order for them to spray something more powerful and that didn't even help. Don't get me started about the staff! We had no problems moving into the apartment but moving out was a nightmare! They started asking me 1 week before my lease was over when I would have my stuff out of the apartment. We we started moving out stuff out we had parked in the front. The doorman told me to park in the garage so I did. Then the second I got in the garage he said I could not park there but to park in the back because there was a furniture delivery. 20 minutes later I was able to start moving my stuff only to be told that I had to take the fright elevator to the garage and haul all my stuff up the steep enterance and out the back. Not to mention during my lease I had bought a normal sized couch, had it delivered and was unable to fit it in the small fright elevator or the regular elevator which isn't much smaller than the fright. The only thing I liked about this apartment was there was extra storage on the same floor and the view I had from one of the higher floors. I would never recommend this building to anyone unless you want to over spend for what you get, go on exciting roach killing sprees, or have a headache for the entire term of your lease. Hope this review helps make your decision easier!

I agree with the previous review. Worst building I've lived in too, and I've lived in quite a few! I cannot wait to move out of here. Today, for instance, the heat should be on, as it's very chilly outside (in the upper 50's) and it's not! And it's only September! As I'm writing this, my hands are super cold. I don't know what it would be like in the winter! In the summer, I had to brave the biggest heat ever (it was unbelievably hot) with no air conditioning. If you have a standard AC unit, like most people, you won't be able to use it because it won't fit into the super old window frames! These must be the original windows, from the time the building was built and that was long time ago. I am stunned that these people charge rents in the upper 800's to mid 900's (for 1 br) without providing at least one AC unit. All 1 brs that I've seen in this price range would come with an AC unit or would at least provide central air. No lights! No ceiling fans! Super small one sided kitchen sink that you can barely put anything in. Small stove. No backsplash or a hood! Old tiles in the bathroom; old shabby bathtub. Window frames and especially doors have been painted over so many times, to the effect that you cannot always open or close them easily (due to the many layers of paint). Paper thin walls. I happen to have a noisy neighbor, and it drives me nuts. I've seen the police come to tell neighbors to quiet down. Tons of smokers in this building. I've never seen so many smokers at any of the previous locations where I've lived. Last but not least, you have to mail your rent every month to the main office in Wilmette. How convenient is this? In conclusion, I do NOT recommend this property at all. Keep in mind though that housing in Edgewater, Rogers Park, and even Uptown (for the most part) is pretty sub par, so you really don't have much choice. :(

This is by far the WORST apt building I have lived in...EVER. The Good: It's close to the redline, beach, liquor, grocery stores, and restaurants. And the walk-in closet is big. The Bad: my studio is way overpriced ($705) for what the place has to offer. And it is extremely small. The UGLY: Yes it says "Free heat" but the heat doesn't even work in the winter. I have met multiple residents who agree and told me of this when I first moved in! It gets worse in the summer as there is no AIR CONDITIONING or CEILING FAN. The windows open but not too much breeze comes through. There are large gaps between the window and the screens which allow for insects to come in. What makes it even worse is my view is of an alley. In addition to not have a ceiling fan, there is also no LIGHT. You have to buy your own lamps. There is no fan in the bathroom either causing extreme humidity in the summer. The kitchen has a one sided sink with no garbage disposal, and a tiny oven (the fridge is awesome tho is gets super cold)! The water at this place does not get hot either. In the kitchen or the bathroom. When you shower, you don't even need to turn on the cold water. Washing dishes is a hassle because hot water needs to be added to the dish water. There is no trash chute, and garbage needs to be taken out to the dumpsters by you. This apt should be priced at no higher than $550 a month. For a place that has no heat, no air, no light, no hot water, and BUGS...I'd say pass it right up. Its over priced. I also had a neighbor who enjoyed singing by herself on a karaoke machine lol. The walls are paper thin.

The property is well kept and for the most part, the staff are ok, but the Chief Engineer is a real odd ball. The first time I met him was when I was moving in a few years ago, and it was not a welcoming experience. I was trying to use the freight elevator when he used his key to place it on independent and take it. I tried to explain that I needed it, but he yelled "I'm the chief engineer" and took it away. He gives you the impression he could be a "Terrorist Cell", because he seems very sneaky, and he acts as if he's hiding something. I personally don't trust the guy as far as I could throw him. What's more? With exception to the women on the maintenance staff, they are not friendly people. I hardly ever hear them speak English. I often catch the Chief Engineer and sometimes other members of his staff smoking in non-smoking areas of the building. I think somebody should get rid of this weirdo and replace him with a human being.

You do get what you pay for. Rent is relatively affordable if you compare it to other buildings on this block and most of the tenants here do seem normal and have a proper job or is a student. You wouldn't see a sketchy crowd of guys hanging around the front of the building, as you would at many other buildings along Sheridan. Pro is the location.. you have the 147, 136 and 151 stopping in front of the building..and the red line is only a 5 mins walk. Another good thing is the lake view if your apartment happens to be facing east. That's pretty much it. The place is run down.. very old appliances in the kitchen and antique fixtures in the bathroom. Doors and window frames and walls are painted over like a hundred times. Bugs screeen are all warped and are pretty useless. I talked to Management and they said "yeah.. this is a very old building and the screens are all warped". They solved the bug issue by sealing the screen to the window frame with caulking which means you won't be able to remove the screens anymore to clean the outerface of the windows (not a big problem if the building didn't have that much bugs and spiders.. but because this building has a lot of insects .. my windows are covered in spider web now). Working.. but very old elevator, dirty hallways and dirty elevator lobbies. The ground floor looks alright thou I do have to say.. so if you are just coming to get your friend or spending a few mins in the lobby on ground floor, you probably would think this is a pretty nice place. Especially since the rest of the apt buildings near sheridan / foster and sheridan / thorndale are crap. Heat is a big issue in winter.. it says free heat and all but truth is my apt is always cold. The single paned glass windows with a gap on all four sides certainly didn't help. You pretty much have to turn on your own space heater all the time and dress in layers even at home.

Anyone thinking of moving into the building should read the reviews on the bed bug registry first to decide. http://bedbugregistry.com/location/IL/60660-4802/Chicago/5630-N-Sheridan-Rd I thought the story about one person witnessing secondhand a perturbed resident plotting to spread a bed bug rumor is pretty hilarious.

I have lived in this building for 6 years and never had a problem. I moved from Milwaukee and this was one of the first buildings I visited - the people in the office were very nice, the building was well-maintained, and I liked the units... and I have been here ever since. The doorstaff is great and the maintenance people always fix things the same day or the following day. The view from my apartment is of the lake and I love it! No complaintsand I have no plans to move.

This is one of those family owned real estate/property mgmt. companies that just doesn't get it. When cold weather comes and the maintenance staff has to come in and literally seal your windows closed and then put plastic sheeting over that and your apt. still feels cold, then there is a problem. The heating system gives off no where the amount of heat it should to keep your apt comfortable and when something is said, they quote the temp law to you. Yeah right. And I am hearing this from a LOT of residents here. Windows leak like sieves. Owners just simply DO NOT care about their residents. Name on lease....your on your own. But I will not renew this lease and will NEVER live in another apt bldg that has a sign Managed By WRRealEstate on it. NEVER!!!!! Also see review of 5633 N Kenmore, another WR bldg.
