I currently live here and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. The grounds are well kept by the maintenance staff and the office staff is great about helping me when I needed something resolved. I've been living at 544 W. Melrose for almost 3 years now and got to know some of the tenants who have been here for a long time. The complex is a great place to live in the City (and it's not too far from Wrigley Field). The only negative thing is that parking can be hell unless you pay for parking in their covered garage.

I have lived here nearly 2 years and am only moving out because I bought a condo. I live on the 5th floor in a corner unit and don't have any problem with inside or outside noise. I have never had problems with the management or building manager. Maintenance requests have always been completed in a timely manner. It's a great starter apartment for someone's first time in the city!

the building is clean...well kept and has a prompt management. The best part is the location..next to broadway..and the area is safe too.!!

After 2 1/2 years at this property, I am finally moving out. It may have been cheap at the beginning (two months free rent and tiny deposit), but it is no longer cheap and the management concern over problems is zero.

I had a garden level apartment and had roaches lounging on my floors from spring until late fall. Then the noise and chatter from the rats in the walls woke me at night so often I finally just got used to it. Sometimes they'd fight and the squealing then became gross and intolerable.

What was management's response? "That's life in a garden level" and "If you don't like it, move out".

I loved the location and I loved the set up; but the building is just way too expensive for what else is in the neighborhood. And in the end, living with pests and paying these rents is absurd; but they'll snare in some other fool for sure.

It took about a day or so to move into. When we moved into the place, they had already installed a new carpet and cleaned everthing up. My dad found a few minor problems and wrote a polite, offical note to the management requesting repairs and all repairs were done within a week. The manager is very nice and for the most part does repairs quickly if asked properly. My biggest complaint about the building is when the toilet above ours overflowed and dripped water into our bathroom, but the people up there got a new toilet and our apartment was cleaned up by management.

The area is very nice but parking is horrible unless you're willing to pay $110 a month for a single parking spot in the building garage. Yuck.

The moving in process took almost a week to complete. Once we picked up the keys after signing the lease and got to the apartment nothing was replaced or repaired as promised. There was wax and many other unknown stains on the carpet. The refrigerator was old and full of mold and mildew. The oven/stove was hardly in working order. The cabinet doors didn´t line up.
After letting them know about the problems they refused to fix anything because they were giving us two months of free rent. We told them that we were going to contact a lawyer unless they fixed the problems so they allowed us to move into a different apartment that was ready to move into. However, that took another week to get into.
Once we got into the other aparment we had a new kitchen and bath. The only problem was that the a/c didn´t cool the apartment, especially if you were cooking something, it was very loud, dripped water into the apartment and stained the new carpet, and the plug would get so hot that you could smell it almost burn. It took them almost 4 months of complaining to replace the a/c with a new one.
On to the good things...
It is in a great location. Well, that is about all for the good things.
