This building has a horrible bedbug and cockroach problem. I lived in Chicago for many years and have seen nothing like this before. I got out asap, within the first few months of living there.

i rented a unit in this building and will simply provide with some facts from my experience. you can check it out yourself and form your own opinion. the neighborhood really is is generally safe. it is full of low income housing, homeless shelters and cafeterias so there is an abundance of crazy, homeless, and drug addicted neighbors. however very rarely do they bother you for anything other than to ask for a dollar, spare change, or offer you their sexual services. my biggest problem was with the back alley door. this is where the majority of the homeless people in the neighborhood like to hang out, drink, urinate on the side of the building and loiter. my unit was floors above this at at 7am the sound of them beginning to congregate travels up. the hallway to this back alley door overwhelmingly smells like a nursing home 100% of the time and my tolerance for it wore quickly. parking before 9pm in the are is really not bad however in my year at the unit i acquired over $1,100 dollars in parking tickets, fines, and was towed twice. so be very careful, read all signs, and if you're unsure about a spot...don't park in it. now my unit itself was actually great. it was very large for the price and i was able to have a fullsized bed and a sofa (quite impressive for a chicago studio. the kitchens are small and trust me they get smaller and smaller the longer you live there. this building is also over 100 years old so invest in a water filter. the staff is a joke. the property manager is rude and lies. her husband, the onsite maintenence man sits in her office and naps in a chair all day long. if you want anything fixed in your unit have it done yourself. send the bill to someone above the property manager, and withhold the amount from your rent. if you're lucky, careful, and not too picky. this can be a great palce to stay.

I read some of these reviews before I moved in, and was a little afraid because of it. Now, however, I see that you people writing bad reviews are just crazy. It's in an incredibly convenient location, the staff is very helpful and friendly, the rent is cheap, I have a great view, and I've never had a bug problem. My only complaint is that sometimes it gets a little cold in the apartment--but I wrap up in a blanket and it's fine. This is a nice, diverse, friendly place to live. You people who talk about how you were afraid all of the time are probably just racist and didn't like seeing black and -------- people in your building. Move to Lincoln Park.
