Run! Do not walk away from this building. I am a former tenant and my nightmare started within hours of living here. While unpacking my belongings roaches where literally climbing out of the wood works. I'm not talking a few, there were hundreds. I knocked on my neighbors door, we chatted about the uninvited guests and he pulled up his pant leg to reveal bed bug bites. I left immediately and had to have all my possessions bug treated.

I moved to 4423 N. Sheridan sight unseen from Canada - I saw other reviews once I had already rented the place. I spoke to Estera who seemed really nice and helpful (until I moved in) - I asked specifically if there were roaches in the building because I do not do pests - she assured me there were none (lie #1) - This building is creepy at best - its in the bad part of Uptown - dont be fooled by the nice Target up the street. I will say it again - DONT BE FOOLED BY THE TARGET UP THE STREET. This building has mice/rats/roaches. The roaches did not die - I sprayed, put power, gel and nothing stopped them completely - you will see them in the hallway, in the elevator and on your bed. I would freak out and wouldnt sleep because of fear they would crawl on me during the night. I even saw on in my frig - at that point I emailed Estera to let her know I needed a new frig because i noticed the seals that keeps it tight was torn and it was leaking something brown - she said that it was fine - (it was not) - all i can tell you is - if you move here after reading my review - you are nuts - I am not some bitter person who was evicted - I paid my rent timely - I am not some ------ individual with a grudge - im simply an average renter who requires a level of quality even if I am on a budget I dont want roaches in my life - I literally had to keep everything including my sponges in plastic containers. Oh yah - the elevators in the building are always broken - and so is the front door to get into the building - when you dont have to step over a homeless person (and I have photos) - then you are just pushing the door without your key to get into your building - simply GROSS and when I told Estera I wasnt resigning my lease she took it personally and didnt speak to me - WHO CARES - Im a renter - i have that option. Her husband is awesome he will help you but she will not - she will lie just to fill the vacancies.

Okay, here's the thing. As many living here are, I am a poor college student. That't why I'm living here; it was one of the only apartments available within my price range. The place is a cheep, studio apartment in a kind of sketchy neighborhood. My shower has fluctuating water pressure, my toilet doesn't like to stop running, I have a light that won't turn off independently, and I can hear my neighbors kids in the hallway and fighting next door. They haven't been fixed; but that's because I never bothered to ask them to be. Management isn't often in, and they hold packages there, which is frustrating. But, that being said, It's a cheep. studio. apartment. You'd be crazy not to expect a few problems. Yeah, it can be kind of sketchy sometimes, but I've never been harassed (and I'm a very small female). There are some mechanical problems, but it's an old building, and every time I have asked for something to be fixed, it has been within 24 hours. I've only had a power outage once, and it was in a huge storm; power was back on within a few hours. The walls are thin particularly to the hall, but that's the case almost everywhere. Management can be hard to get ahold of, but when you do they're always pleasant and helpful. I've never had a bug problem besides fruit flies, which was my own fault. In fact, I rarely see bugs of any kind. It get's hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but welcome to Chicago. My heat works, my windows open, everything works fine enough for me and I'm really just sort of left alone. It's not the most spectacular living location in the world, but it's certainly livable. I'd rather live somewhere nicer, but I'm content living here. You really do get what you pay for.

I've lived there for several months. It's not the Ritz, but it's cheap. They pay someone full time to keep the place clean. The elevators are old but not dangerous. I have not seen a single bug. Management is responsive to any problems. The neighborhood is the worst part because of the nearby halfway houses.

NO ONE SHOULD EVER LIVE IN THIS BUILDING!!! I am a current resident of this building and I would have never thought that I would have to deal with such a horrific experience. Since day one there have been roaches in my apartment, my shower has continued to be broken and management doesn't seem to care, two mice have been caught in my kitchen, my water doesn't stay hot, and that is just a few things on the list of things that are wrong with this building. The landlord is never in the office during scheduled time and the only time she is in the office is when she is having people sign leases. Also, for those who haven't moved in yet, DON'T BELIEVE THE ADVERTISMENTS!!!! They might make the apartments look nice but in reality your heat doesn't work, your windows don't hold out the cold air, and your toilet is probably broken. And your also not in the best part of the city. This has by far been the worst living situation I have ever had to deal with and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

Obviously the other people writing these reviews didn't ask many questions before signing their lease. I'm living with two cats but I don't know the policy about other animals. I've never had a problem here and this is a very livable city. I'm not crazy about the area but it's very convenient. Like other reviewers are saying, if you're racist or not used to urban areas (those aren't the same, just a trend), you might be scared of this location. Else, if I need something repaired, it's fixed within a few days and if my power goes out, it's back and running within 10-20minutes. Coming from NY, I'm not used to having the luxury of laundry machines on the first floor, let alone elevators. There's a jewel and a target a block away, and 5blocks to a station. No complaints. But this is also a halfway house with lots of doctors so you might be getting legally trafficked here and not even know it. 'haha.'

I unfortunately wrote one of the past good reviews for this building let me explain my situation with this building...(NOT TO MENTION 6 PEOPLE WERE SHOT A FEW BLOCKS AWAY LAST MONTH. THERE'S BEEN A RISE IN SHOOTINGS IN UPTOWN).at first I was quite happy with the place, mostly for convinence of being by the red line and target and jewel and Truman, etc. now when it comes to the actual studio I was renting, ---- got really bad. the first 6 months I had small problems such as my shower knob not working, the electricity went out for a few days before they could get an electrician, my fridge stopped working, and for a week they had to knock a hole in my wall to work on my neighbors bathroom...this is when ---- went bananas. in April, the people above me COMPLELETLY flooded their apartment. I mean there was water running down my walls, my closet had a good 2 inches of water in the carpet, I mean this damage was EXTENSIVE. they had their water running for atleast 11 hours because I was at a concert and DIDNT catch it until I got home at 130 am. I called Estera (the manager) and her response was "uhh I guess we can call a plumber tommorow" THIS PERSONS WATER WAS STILL RUNNING, THERE WAS WATER FLOWING DOWN MY WALLS. I had to have my dad talk to her so she would eventually go up to the apartment upstairs and turn off the ------- water. no plumber came the next day, they barely made any repairs. the walls were peeling and pieces of plaster were coming off the ceiling and I kept ALL of my clothes and other stuff I'm my closet, it was all COMPLELETLY water damaged. I know the flooding is not their fault but they made hardly any repairs and their business practices are pathetic. it's just her husband who does all the repairs and I'm pretty sure he has no maintenance training of any kind. so, the real fun is what happened next, after all this flooding I got the worst bed bug infestation ever. I wish I could post pictures of my body because they ate me alive. again, the management did NOTHING about this and as far as I know the apartment still has a huge infestation. I had to spend hundreds of dollars on bed casings and sprays and buying new sheets and clothes because I could NOT chance having these bed bugs follow me to my new apartment. it was absolutely miserable. the neighborhood is skeezy as hell, everytime I walked down the block I could count on being sexually harassed, I was embarassed to bring my girl friends over because the neighborhood made them uncomfortable and I couldn't have any one over after the whole bed bug thing. I've never expirienced anything quite like bed bugs, they're horrible. also, the management kept hounding me to sign a new lease, I nearly died laughing. I couldn't believe they expected me to sign again, and once I made it clear I wasn't resigning the management completely ignored all my calls and texts. moving in and out of the building is horrible. their elevators are always out of service and getting all your stuff in those pieces of crap is terrible. and all of the residents will give you a hard time when you're trying to move. my apartment was on the 9th floor, I caution anyone moving in there to BEWARE OF BES BUGS. the whole building has been infested since 2010 and I didn't find that out until after. also there was a really bad fire in 2012 that they convinentley forget to tell people about that.avoid this building like the plague. parking is a total nightmare, many times I had to drive around for a half hour trying to find a spot. noise wasn't too bad in the actual apartment but in the hallways you can hear everything. oh yah, if you're a big foodie and like to cook avoid this place. the kitchens are LITERALLY CLOSETS. I'm not exaggerating they are literally closets. you can pretty much walk in and turn around. that's it. they get incredibly hot and claustrophobic. I avoided being in there at all costs. the management is never in the office and the most you'll see of them is when you're signing a lease or giving them money, otherwise they couldn't care less.

I rented here because it was cheap and I was a poor college student. The building is old and ill-maintained, and as a few people have already said, they will rent to anyone. I had to call the police on my upstairs neighbor multiple times for noise that was so loud it shook the walls. Usually around 2am. Despite multiple complaints to management (and not just by me!), not only did they not do anything about this nuisance, they renewed his lease for another year! Like many others here I had a bad roach problem that never went away no matter how many times the exterminator came out, and in winter it was freezing with leaky windows and a radiator that never worked right. My oven was broken and was never fixed, and the toilets clog if you look at them funny. The neighborhood is terrible. I witnessed the aftermath of a drive-by shooting just half a block from the building, and I once came home from work to find a homeless man passed out in front of my door. Not the building door, my apartment door. Yeah. The staff is nice enough and they do the best they can, but the company that owns the building refuses to put any money into even the most basic maintenance. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

They have every problem you could think of. That's why the rent's so cheap. Roaches, rats and I even had a bed bug problem. They rent to anyone and everyone. I must admit, it must be hard to keep a place clean when you have over a hundred people living in one building, but this was ridiculas. The heat didn't work right. Maybe they need to replace the boiler or something, but I was freezing all winter. I lived there for two years mainly because of the rent. The neighborhood is shady at best...I say just avoid the headache. DON'T LIVE HERE...unless you enjoy a few thousand crittery friends.
