I hated living in Chicago but I was lucky to find this place for while I was there. Yes, the management is rude but that's apparently normal in that city, in any industry. I generally didn't have any problems with them as far as maintenance and they even let me out of my lease a little early. The building itself has gorgeous wood floors and it's a really solid old building. I was on the top floor in the corner, had a pretty view and very little noise. Neighbors were pretty friendly and there were often small parties on the roof in the summer months. The laundry room was a ripoff and their "fitness center" was seriously a joke. Don't expect to find much street parking for the next few blocks. The train is REALLY far away but the Lake Shore Drive express buses stop right at the corner. If I ever had to move back to Chicago I'd probably stick to this area. Hope this helps.

Although the building and the apartment are very nice, I don't think my experience with the management company (Lakeview Associates) could have been worse. They're fine....until you need them. The last time I had a maintenance emergency, it took 3.5 hours for them to call me back. By then, I had to rent a hotel, which the company has refused to reimburse me for. The director of leasing actually told me that "the owners don't care about the tenants." Those were her words...verbatim. When I tried to deduct the hotel reimbursement from my rent, I was promptly (for once...) given a notice to leave the premises within five days.

Moral of this story? Do NOT lease from Lakeview Associates. When you're in a bind, they will be of absolutely no help whatsoever.
