“Not surprising that when the garage door opener started to fall apart after YEARS of use, management wants to charge us for a new one. Guess I'll have to email the housing board about lack of access to my building. I though this stuff stopped after Gabriella left =(”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“Simply put: do NOT rent here. - If you have a noisy neighbor, don't expect any help from the manager or owners. - Rent goes up $250+ when they haven't taken care of building and apartment issues. - There are still issues with bugs (roaches and ants). - We often received notices of having to leave the apartment for an entire day. Or to move our cars out the garage (there's almost no parking to find outside), with only a 1-day notice, otherwise pay a fine or get towed - during a work week. - The dryers don't dry... - The property manager (Marcy) seems nice at first. You'll soon find out she is lazy and scatterbrained, dishonest and will not help you in any way if she absolutely does not need to. - The owners and manager are not forthcoming about what they provide. Be careful. - The poor maintenance guy is only in once or twice a week, and has too much to take care of in his time there (where is our increase in rent going ?!@) STAY AWAY.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“THE MOST AWFUL PLACE. STAY AWAY. There's no order. Some apartment's fire alarm was going off for 2 hours and no one was doing anything about it for 2!! hours. Might as well have burned the entire place down. People living in the apartment complex are noisy, one apartment would have music on full volume every single night of every day of the week and even after multiple complaints nothing was done about it until the tenant causing the noise moved out. Some tenant threw lit cigarette down the trash chute and the entire place was in smoke, fire alarms going off, no one even taken care of making sure all pets and elderly were out. Roaches infestation was taken care by giving tenants one day notice to abandon the premises because the spray people are coming next day and threatened nice 50 dollars penalty if you somehow do not find a place to put yourself next day, during the week WHEN PEOPLE ARE WORKING. But you know one thing they are good at? Raising your rent every year. You pay insane money for NOTHING. You might as well die in this place from some fire that no one knew about.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“This place is cheap. Not inexpensive, but cheap. Repairs generally take two or three requests, because there is only one maintenance guy for multiple buildings. He's great, but he's not around often enough. Management is a joke. I heard the building manager tell a new tenant she was lying that there were no knobs on the cabinet doors. Multiple tenants cars have been damaged by the garage gates (they will close on your car or person frequently) and management refuses to acknowledge the negligence. Entire sets of mailboxes have been replaced with no mention new mailbox keys to tenants. Trash can stay in the stairwells or hallways for days without being picked up. Some tenants leave unwanted, cardboard boxes (which unleashed dogs will pee on) in the halls for nearly a week before removing them. There is a revolving roach problem, even in clean apartments. The interior rooms (facing the courtyard) get zero airflow. Air conditioner units are useless and haven't been upgraded in decades. Most kitchen appliances haven't been upgraded in decades. Some apartments have paint that flakes off the walls constantly. Getting pipes unclogged can take weeks. Getting mold taken care of can take weeks. Management will argue with you about maintenance items that are a health hazard. At all times 2/6 washers are broken. Homeless people live in the stairways of adjacent buildings. Parents of children at the school next door will block the one lane road twice/day, making it impossible to exit the garage. Sometimes the garage gate will not open at all, and the building manager will not answer the phone to help open it. Her hours are not set; she is only available to tenants on her terms. Half of the neighbors will be gone in 6 months (the entire area is like that, it's Hollywood) so there isn't much sense of a community or desire to keep the place nice. Overall the apartments have a nice layout, and rent is cheap, but the building is patch worked together and investment from the owners is little to none. Most neighbors will not pickup after their dogs, so there is urine and feces EVERYWHERE. At the beginning of the summer there was a tent city for the homeless only 100 yards from this building. They all left after one of them was murdered and the police made them move on. About two years ago there was a shooting in an apartment to the northwest. Good luck getting sleep with the helicopters overhead nightly. Pros: walkability to great dining and bars, Runyon Canyon, parks, the best pet store in the city, and very quick access to ridesharing in a city with no cabs.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“Beware--COCKROACHES!! Not sure if it's because of our proximity to the garage/dump bin but we can NOT get rid of them. We are very clean and diligent about not leaving behind anything for these pests to snack on yet they keep reappearing through the cracks in the ceiling. (Maybe our upstairs neighbors are to blame?). Regardless--the apartment is not properly sealed to defend against pests by keeping them OUT and be prepared to have to spray multiple times to control (not eradicate) the problem. If you've ever had to spray for pests before you know how cumbersome and inconvenient of a process this is....”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“I lived here from 2007-2011 and would recommend it. It is an older building, so yes there will be problems, however the management was always very responsive. Lucille, the older Russian lady, and her son took care of any issues that I had without me ever asking twice. There are new and nicer building in Hollywood, but you will pay more for less space and newer ammenites. This builing is in the heart of Hollywood, so be prepared for all the good (bars, clubs, and activities) and all the bad (bums and noise). If you are aged 20-40, and don't have a ton of money to spend, I'd surely recommend The Alexio.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“Like many, I thought I got a great deal on getting the lease; however, it appears they are doing their damnedest to get me to move out. Here's a small list of the things wrong in my place right now: -Ants in the apartment -Dripping faucet -Busted refrigerator All the above started when I first moved in. Of course, I told Lucille about it shortly after I moved in; yet, that was ten months ago, and none of that has been taken care of. Then, there's the matters that have little to do with the unit itself -- like the fact that I still don't have my number programmed into the buzser. Initially, they told me that it had to be a 323 number, which I later got. Afterwards, every time I call the office to give them my new number with the 323 area code, she tells me to come back when I have the number (even though I have the number to give over the phone). Seriously, sometimes it feels like they should change the name of the building to USA Prime Credit, and Lucille should change her name to Peggy. P.S. This building isn't secure -- expect thieves to walk off with your online purchases before you get home. Nearly 50% (literally -- it's no exaggeration!) of my Amazon purchases goes to some thief who walks through the hallways, pilfering through what's on my doorstep. The other 50% of the time, I'm lucky to have packages delivered that haven't been opened by some random stranger or where the delivery guy gets turned away because the office is rarely open and I don't have a way to buzz him in.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“So... you're whining about your apartment complex... This place is awesome. The management was so responsive and helpful during the move-in and took care of all the little things... just make a list. They fix it. Done. Great place for the value. Thanks :)”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“http://www.jeffgreene.com/splash/meet-jeff Also Lucille is a 78 year old women. I don't think she is a US citizen. SHe has no comprehension of our Laws. it is very scary and unsafe to live in any apartment she supervises.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“cockroaches that come out of the holes and crevices behind the cabinets it took 6 months for lucille to get the pest control to come to our apt and put some sort of gel! she's unresponsive and cheap! no security dirty as hell!”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“In 2007, there was a big fire in this building on the 2nd floor. Several apartments were a total loss. While a fire can happen in any residential building, here's what was most upsetting: The fire revealed that there was no working alarm system in this building. Not one alarm or smoke detector went off. No sprinklers (required by law) in the garage were working and none of the fire doors closed as they were supposed to. In addition, there was NO attempt by management to alert residents of the fire or rescue pets who were home alone (this was in the late afternoon). Many people fled only after seeing the fire department break in. The fire department was alerted by a passerby, not by the alarm system. According to our councilmen's office, a cause for the fire was never determined but the owner was fined for breaking fire code laws by not having a properly working system. Many months after the fine, they were still investigating because the building was evidently not yet up to code. My wife and I moved out around that time because the situation didn t feel safe. http://lafd.blogspot.com/2007/11/firefighters-swiftly-tackle-hollywood.html”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“I'm planning to move pretty soon. Not because I dislike this apartment but because my roommate is moving out.. I was trying to save money and get a roommate. Now that I'm doing better this year financially I've decided to move to downtown where I really want to live. The tenants are friendly here. Only thing is the walls are very thin here. I would definitely be patient.. when your neighbors are walking upstairs or you here things through the walls. Otherwise.. its a quite place.. not for the partying types. They will kick you out of you are loud.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“In no way could I reccommend these apartments. We have sent complaints over complaints to the manager with little or noresponse. We have extreme mold in the shower walls and the musty stench is throughout the apartment. We have become ill and hopefully do not serious illness. Lucille has only sent day laborers to rip out part of the shower tile. The procedure was done without a license and exposed us to spore counts 1000 times higher than before. Recently, another worker merely caulked over the moldy grout covering any evidence of visible mold which the LA Housing Department needs to see in order to prosecute! Dogs pee everywhere in the lounge areas and the large fire should say enough. Our place was never inspected for mold or smoke damage. The outlets short out and have no surge protector, an extreme fire hazard. Also our oven is over 30 years old. Unacceptable. Dangerous.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“Best apartment I've found in over 10 years in LA. If you're loud, obnoxious, or generally disregard the well-being of others, Lucille will make you regret the day you signed the lease. For those of us who don't play drums at 2AM and who don't have two 1500 watt subwoofers blasting Matchbox 20 slop, Lucille is a dream come true. She made repairs to our apt very quickly, many on the same day we told her of the problem. Bottom line: Hollywood is a never ending circus of chaos, and Lucille brings in a touch of much-needed order. If you are lame, she won't go out of her way to make sure your problems get fixed. As to the elevators smelling like dog pee- whiners. They still smell better than your average Hollywood street and far better than the sewage-stench that hovers around Cheebo. By the way, the elevators get cleaned EVERY DAY and have for years and the carpet in the halls has been replaced. One of the best places you'll find in Hollywood for the $$.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“I lived here for two years and have mixed reviews. The place is in a great location, close to Runyon canyon/sunset and hollywood. The manager is a nice old lady but she treats it like it is an old persons home. If you are loud, you will never hear the end of it. I had some people over once, had a couple complaints (on a fri. night) and got bitched at for a year. There are a lot of car break in's in the garage (about 4 people I knew) and the security cameras don't work. There were also some creepy characters that would try to break in to peoples apts-so just know you are not moving in to beverly hills. As for the dogs- it's really not that bad. I mean, go somewhere else if the sight or smell of urine every once in a while is going to make you freak out. All of WeHo is filthy with dog pee and crap on the streets so go to bev hills if you can't get over it. Anyway, I had a pretty good experience here and the place is reasonably priced. It is really quiet especially if you were in the courtyard like me. Parking is so-so on the streets. My friends could usually find a spot if it wasn't too late. That was a plus. They try to keep the place nice and have updated most apartments but the grounds are not the most luxurious- I mean it's old. Pools nice but covered and they got cheap and stopped heating it.... the rooftop views are great also. Maintenance was usually performed quickly and efficiently but they would come in sometimes unannounced which was illegal. I would recommend this place as it is good compared to other crapholes around the area but don't piss off the land lady and lock your car!”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“To clear things up, dogs are NOT allowed to urinate on the walls or the elevator, nor does it seem that they are. Management is very serious about not letting the place get messed up by dogs. Yes, there are TONS of dogs here, so if you don't like dogs, I wouldn't recommend it. However, it's a great place for dog lovers.<br>The apartments are very large for such low rent, and the carpeting was either new or close to new. There are a number of small problems that I hope will be fixed soon, but nothing too serious that's worth making a huge fuss over. <br>You will have a hard time finding a cheaper place that is so big with so many amenities, in such a GREAT location.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“Manager is a very nice lady and pretends to care, but doesn't actually get anything done. The building was recently repainted, but the carpeting DESPERATELY needs to be replaced. Lots of dogs living here with a lot of VERY inconsiderate neighbors. Neighbors don't curb their pets, leave security doors open all day and night, and slam emergency doors all night and day (even though they are not supposed to be in use). Things that needed to be fixed inside my apartment were fixed quickly and it is fairly low-rent, all things considered.”
— 1538 N VISTA ST · LOS ANGELES“This building is beyond filthy. Dogs are permitted to urinate in the elevator and on the hallway walls. The smell is nauseating. The apartment manager, Lucille Hotnog, ignores all such complaints. DO NOT make the mistake that I did.”
