“I was lucky enough to move here right before the pandemic started, and I ended up spending nearly all of 2020 at home in this building. Honestly, moving to Madison Hancock Park was my big (and arguably only) win of the year. I absolutely love the location; I’ve taken the most beautiful walks around Hancock Park, and the building could not be a more convenient walking distance to shops on Melrose and Larchmont Village. Stephanie is an amazing property manager, and creates a super welcoming environment. And the service supervisor Edwin is the kindest and most helpful person imaginable for keeping everything in working condition. No place is perfect (for example, the walls are a bit thin for sound purposes), but it’s a supremely comfortable and beautiful space. Overall, this is the first apartment I’ve moved to where I knew I wanted to stay here as long as possible.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“We have lived here more than a decade, which should tell you something right there. But I am only submitting a review for the first time now because there has been a notable improvement in management over the past year. Stephanie in the front office is a dream: responsive, follows through, friendly, sensible. Edwin who handles maintenance is the same. We recently moved to a new apartment inside the Madison, and they both were great. Ditto over the summer, when the (since demolished) property next door became a nuisance. A++”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“The biggest highlight of my 2020 was moving into Madison Hancock Park. I cannot stop raving about my apartment and the community, and it's largely thanks to how amazing management has been from day 1. They are an absolute pleasure and are incredible at tending to their residents needs. They've also gone above & beyond to make us all feel safe during the pandemic. Definitely lucked out finding this place.”
“The Madison has been the only place that has felt like home. Before living here, I never stayed anywhere for long. Now I am dreading the day it comes time to leave! I always feel safe, secure, and welcome. All of the residents are wonderful and respect the building's common areas as extended parts of their home. Kate is beyond exceptional in my book. She has gone above and beyond to make our lives happy here. She does her job with pride and it shows. She is always bubbly, polite, and willing to help to the best of her abilities. She brings the community together with resident activities and is planning neighborhood watch meetups soon. Having management live on site is also an added perk. She is always there when we need her! Armando, the maintenance manager, is amazing. I never worry when something needs done in my unit. I can trust him to enter my apartment without me being home and my pets love him and welcome him. He fixes everything right the first time and has no problem doing all of the mundane tasks I may ask of him. For being the only maintenance person on staff, he manages to keep everything up and running as if he had a full staff!”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I have lived at The Madison for three years now and have been very pleased with the facility and staff thus far. In recent months, I have taken notice of a marked increase in attentiveness from the new building manager, Kate, and Super, Armando. Both have really gone out of their way to make my life easier, be it hanging framed artwork in my apartment or finding me a space to park my extra car during the holidays. The gym has been updated with new treadmills, and the pool is always sparkling! Aside from a few security issues (several garage break-ins, which have been recurring since my move in and which Kate has been particularly excellent about addressing), the building is extremely safe with friendly, polite neighbors (mostly couples, and a few small children).”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“This is a beautiful building. What appealed to us the most was that it is pet friendly, has secured parking, a pool and a gym. Also, it is walking distance to so many things! Most outstanding was the reception of the manager when we originally toured the property. Kate was very congenial, engaging and once we signed the lease went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. It's comforting to know that there is such responsible and reliable staff looking out of you.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I have lived here for several months. I have to say they switched managers, and the new manager is just not up to par compared to Christina. I loved her and moved here in part because she was so attentive. I miss her dearly.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I've been living here exactly three years and the first year was rocky, but these past two years have been exceptional. The old manager from two years ago, Betsy was below standards. Since her tenure, Cristina has been perfection -- she cared about the residents and provided a security guard, delivered packages to our doors, negotiated better lease terms and upgraded our gym and pool area. Kate is our latest manager and she is nothing short of SIX STARS -- EXCEPTIONAL! I moved into a two bedroom and she has made quick repairs for a clogged toilet, door stop, ordered and installed a dishwater part and delivers packages to my door or sends an email notification! In addition she completely WOWED us when she fed our himalayan cat 3x in one week and we returned from our trip and it was the first time Penny (cat) was pretty happy and well adjusted. We had cat sitters in the past. I'm so blessed!!!”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I've lived at the Madison Hancock Park for over a year now. The building is quiet, clean and safe. The manager is the best manager I've ever experienced. Things are fixed quickly and packages are delivered to your door or you can swing by the manager's office to pick them up. She safely stores them in her office. The gym has a tv with a full sports package - SO great when you're not motivated to work out. The grounds are quite lovely, especially the terrace area. The location is great as well! The Larchmont Farmers Market is just a few blocks away on Sundays, quite a few good places to eat nearby as well, and The Grove is less than 10 minutes away. I highly recommend living here. :)”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“Looking throughout Los Angeles to find someplace to live is daunting. While there are a lot of choices there are a lot of limitations. We were so glad to find a smaller welcoming community after living in what is said to be the largest apartment complex in the United States. The Madison is safe, clean, kept up well and inviting. Our parking is safe, clean and gated. While we live on a highly used street (Rossmore) we never hear the traffic that passes by. We are on the side overlooking the private pool area. Our location is perfect for getting around Los Angeles. 25 minutes to LAX, 20 minutes to Burbank. The grounds are kept up and the facilities such as the gym were just upgraded - though they were great before. And while there will occasionally be a need for maintenance the property management and the staff reacts promptly and courteously. They even keep doggie snacks in the office because there seem to be at least one dog per family here. Our lease is coming up soon and we plan to renew. A sure recommendation!”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I must say that at first glance this building really makes a nice impression. I lived at this residence for approximately 9 months as a roommate. During the day hours there isn't much noise, but at night its pretty noisy for the most part. I would say that has a lot to do with its location on a busy street. They keep the building pretty clean and the neighbors aren't very noisy. I believe the rent is too high for what you receive in return. The only amenity that can really be looked at as decent is the gym. I don't think a grill area says much, when you look at other buildings with the same rent rates. I will say that there is much more crime that takes place in the building than you would expect! I would always see notes about unfortunate situations and I left bc I did not like the way that management handled the situations. I found a much more affordable place with much less headache. Advice: Look around first and compare.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“We moved here recently, and truly couldn't be more happy. We've lived in other (considered "nicer") apartments in Los Angeles (in Hancock Park even) and nothing compares with the personal management that we receive from Christine. She's amazing. She knows EVERYONE. She's honest and friendly and always on top of ANYTHING that we might need. If there's a problem, she brings it up to us in a very friendly way. When you pass by the office, you actually feel obliged to stop in to say hi... because it would just be rude not to. She really is wonderful and whoever the owners are should take into consideration how important a truly professional and warm manager can make the living experience all the better. We are grateful that we moved here! Thank you!”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“The place is close to everything you might need and the location is safe. Had a couple of break ins in 2010 and mgmt company stepped right up and made it super safe! it's always clean and the staff is responsive. Betsy and her team are the best, the very best and since the place has 62 units, she knows you personally. I'm having to move and she has set a very high bar to compare to!”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“The property management company sucks and the manager is totally immature and is always so elusive in answering maintenance questions or other issues dealing with the building...Oh, did I mention that 1 of the two elevators has been broken for 1 YEAR? The only reason I am recommending this is because of the location and Hancock Park has a lot to offer...the previous property manager, Betsy, was fantastic, but this new guy leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to professionalism.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“Since the new owners have taken over, there have been some positive changes, unfortunately the management company is not a positive change. Four story building and 4th floor is considered Penthouse requiring a elevator key for entry. Unless your guest want to ride the elevator to the 3rd floor and then walk up a floor, 4th floor residents must go down to lobby to let in friends or delivery people. Why this incovenience for the 4th floor residents when they have to pay more to live on the 4th floor. Ask management a question and they say they'll research and get back to you but they never do. Even though management was notified that entry and exit from Garage would be blocked during a certain time frame for the 2007 marathon, since this blockage was initiated by the City of LA, management didn't think it was their responsibility to notify residents they would be unable to exit or enter due to marathon. Oh yeah, and the building managers change about every three months. The new ones always come without a clue, happy and smiling initially and then they start to avoid you because they still don't know the answers to the questions asked of the old managers. Owner of building leaves brochures in lobby for tenants suggestions and questions - the problem here is they never respond, so why leave brochures giving the impression they care what you think. They just want your money.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I've lived here for years and for the first time, the manager started calling me when I received packages. The previous manager was never there so sometimes my catalog items got sent back. I finally feel like I'm getting my money's worth living here.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“I just visited the apartment complex and they did a great job updating the place. They didn't have a two bedroom available for October but I'll defenitely be checking in again to see if anyone moves out.

It's great that a two bedroom comes with two parking spaces. A lot of other places I looked at charges for parking. The gym looked great.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“It's been a nightmare since the owner change in this apartment. The new management has been nothing but rude and unreliable. They are more concentrated in ripping people off with money than imrpoving the apartment condition. They are at crazy rage for kicking all the old tenants out for new tenants who will pay more. The management staff is hardly in the office either and nowhere to be found. Very unresponsive to any and all your calls to the office. If you want to live in a place with no management with high rent, this is the place to be.”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“The management is careless. MANAGEMENT DOES NOT GIVE A CAT'S (YOU KNOW WHAT) ABOUT ANYTHING. INSTEAD, SHE SMOKES WITH HER FRONT DOOR WIDE OPEN FOR ALL THE TENANTS TO SMELL. Any request for repairs/ replacement will never get done. Most of the tenants's complaints are as follows: RENOVATION IS CONSISTANT. WATER AND GAS SHUT OFF ARE ALMOST EVERY WEEK. YOU WILL NEVER FIND PEACE AND CONVIENIENCE OF THE APARTMENT. ANTS AND BUGS IN THE BUILDING. HUMAN VOMIT IN THE GARAGE AREA. THE BUILDING LIES ON THE BIG STREET OF ROSSMORE, IT IS VERY LOAD EVERY MORNING AND NIGHT, BUS NOICES. THE DEBRIS JUST LIES ON YOUR CARPET FROM THE OUTSIDE.

NO SECURITY GUARDS!!!! I PAY OVER $1800 FOR AN APARTMENT THAT IS BEING CONTROLLED BY A CAMERA OUT IN THE FRONT DOOR!!!!!!!!!

ONE WORD!!!!
SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!”
— 627 N ROSSMORE AVE · Los Angeles“Apartments are somewhat roomy and staff is friendly. My rent money has definetly gone back into the building. Since I´ve been here, I´ve seen the hall carpet replaced, the laundry room refurbished, and the front door replaced. The building is pretty secure; to get in the gargage you need a remote and then a key to get in the lobby. There is also a security guard every night. Staff has been nice and have performed all my repairs within a day that I put in the request. You can walk to the grocery store, drug store, and Larchmont Village. There is also a small but nice work-out room with a television and a grill near the pool. Most importantly, my rent has stayed steady since I´ve lived here.

I have had a constant struggle with ants, but Raid tends to keep them at bay. Also, the two elevators are incredibly slow and often broken (but at least we have elevators). Guests unfortunetly have to park on the street, but this is true of most (if not all) apartments in this area. I can also hear my upstairs neighbor when he plays his keyboard, and as my balcony overlooks the pool area, I can sometimes hear noise from there. My neighbors´ apartment across the hall overlooks the street, and they have complained of noise. You will also have to buy or rent a fridge (which is not unusual for LA).

Overall, I highly recommend this apartment. It´s a good price, especially for the Hancock Park area (although it is very close to Melrose, which has a lot of traffic and some questionable characters).

2004 Update: After 3 1/2 years, my rent finally got raised, though it is still cheaper than other apartments in the area. Also, I haven't seen any ants in over a year, so maybe we finally got rid of them.”
