Can't beat the location. I've lived here for almost two years. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. The new manager we got this past year is super nice and very responsive to any issues. Secure parking, too.

I moved to LA from Seattle, WA last year and between the high cost of rent and poor quality of apartments, I was lucky to have found Playa Marina Apartments. Joyce, the manager was so kind and attentive to my needs and concerns; she went out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed. On the rare occasions when maintenance was needed, Joyce was always available to make sure the problem was handled promptly and efficiently. I have been comfortable living at Playa Marina Apartments, and am happy that Joyce is at the helm overseeing the property.

Very obvious that the MANAGER is writing these ... Two anonymous reviews in one day "raving" about how good the Manager is ... Usually people who are reviewing in a positive manner are not afraid to show who they are...

I moved to Playa Marina Apartments because I work in the area and it is convenient. The building has no real amenities, except for the underground parking, but it is well kept and clean. I have very quiet neighbors, which is something I really appreciate. And I love being close to the beach, which is not crowded and very clean.

If you don't mind noise at all hours to which you cannot sleep LIVE HERE! All the units are packed in like sardines and you can always hear your neighbors along with the six lane highway out front. The unit has outdated barely up to code appliances and fixtures and no extra storage space. Take the time to walk through and this will all be apparent. The laundry appliances are constantly down and probably aren't industrial to begin with. Forget about complaining to management. The kid in the managers office doesn't care let alone will ever respond. Have to get the hell out of here...

My girlfriend and I spent just under a year at the Playa Marina Apartments. The building manager was very friendly throughout our entire stay at Playa Marina, and always took care of any problems that would arise in a timely manner. The building just got an entire exterior repaint which I thought was quite nice compared to when we moved in, and the rest of the grounds were consistently maintained and kept very nice with lots of trees and plants. They also ripped out some old carpet in the lobby and near the laundry room that they replaced with some nice tile. Reasonable location putting you minutes away from the 90 and Marina Del Rey, 405, and West Field/Fox Hills Mall. Also there is a BUSY gas station right at the corner that be can reached pretty easy via the back alley for the those early morning fill ups, but most of the time, good luck finding an empty pump there! Our major complaint was the apparent lack of good insulation in the ceiling and walls, as we had fairly consistent bass thumping noise from the tenant above, and very loud TV noises coming from the apartment next to us. Some reviewers commented on the noisy alley and/or Jefferson Blvd depending on what side of the building you were on. We had the alley facing apartment, and cars driving down didn't so much bother us as an occasional BLARINGLY loud alarm that would sound very early in the morning from some vehicle in the parking alot across from the alley. Also In the evening when that lot was being used by one of the nearby studios you would also get the occasional windows down, BASS UP, action. Parking is a mixed bag. When we first moved in, since we had a one bedroom, we only had one parking spot, though some other one bedroom's had a tandem spot. Awesomely enough, after talking with the building manager, we were able to grab one of those tandem spots after a few months when a previous one bedroom moved out. Also, there is USUALLY a spot to be had right in front of the building on Jefferson, and at most a building or two down the street. I always parked on the street for convenience and my only negative comment is that the plastic, very un-fancy front grill of my reasonably priced car was either just plain ripped out or broken and hidden without my knowledge. Bottom Line.. for the price, location and size of the apartment, it's not a bad deal.

Rent increase wasn't as bad as the previous poster made out. It went up $40. It would have been cheaper if I had not elected to go month to month. Still, I think all rent in LA is over priced for the properties. I'm in a two bed/two bath unit. I've been month to a month a year now, although I've requested a decrease and a possible annual re-sign if the conditions are right. I'm also looking for a new place, but it really doesn't seem like a lot of good, affordable choices. Layout doesn't make the best use of space. One of the bathrooms are awkward to use. The living room/dining room seems backwards. The fireplace is a waste of space. Cabinets, fixtures, etc are poor. Fridge is not included and the largest rental I could get to fit was a 14.4 cf. So add 25-30 per month if you plan on renting that. It's noisy. If you are on the alley side, you get people racing down the alley. If you are on the street side, you get people racing there. Wherever you are, you can hear racing. If you are on the Centinela side, you also get the joy of the body shop's noise. Ironically, I think the tenants are generally quiet. In addition to all the noise, there is lots of dust that is almost like soot. Keep your windows open at your own risk. Anything left on the patios will be covered in it. Parking is tandem for the larger units, or single for the smaller ones. It's gated. Not much to say. Guests park on Jefferson or in the alley. Mail carrier stuffs the boxes. Getting UPS or FedEx to be consistent is hard. No elevator or other means to make moving in or grocery shopping very easy. Not a big deal unless carrying things. 4 Washer/3 Dryers on premises, but I'd rather have mine in unit. there are no unit hookups. Convenient to a lot of things in Culver and Marina Del Rey, but nothing but a Starbucks, Campos, and Produce market in easy walking. Full warning, the property owner has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau.

The building is about 8 feet from a six lanes major blvd which bikers, rice rockets and emergency vehicles go up and down on the street all day long. With poor sound proofing, it is like living next to the freeway. Beside the street noise, the pollutions from the passing cars and auto body shop next door (you can smell the paint) are health hazardous issue. Inside the unit is clean, no bugs of any kind. But the water pipes within the walls are pretty loud. On site management is good. Renewal rent increase is to the max. People moves in and out of this place constantly. That is a warning sign. There's a move out fee which they don't mention.

Pros: Like the apartment layout, courtyard, gated entry, gated parking garage, assigned parking. Well maintained with accessible maintenance staff. Good on-sight management. Beach and commercial areas within 5 minutes drive.

Cons: High rent cost. Lease renew has significant rent increase. The road facing apartments get a lot of noise polution from the traffic outside.
