I lived here from 2004-2005, about a year an a half. When I first saw the apartment, I loved it. The place is very pretty. However, the manager, VIctor, really made me lose my faith in humanity. At first I thought he was a bit annoying and intrusive and that was the limit, however, he soon showed himself to be eager to take advantage of his tenants. My roommate called him to fix our garbage disposal and he charged her $75 because she "broke" it. With spinach. He suggested that we don't actually put food in the garbage disposal, but dump it in the toilet, because those pipes could handle it. Then, I told him that the sink in my bathroom was plugged and he said he would fix it but that, if he found anything in there, it would be my fault and I would need to pay for the repairs. Being pretty sure that there was probably something causing the sink to stop up besides water, I decided to just get some Draino and do it myself. Unfortunately, I didn't do it right away but went on vacation. My roommate called me while I was away to let me know that my closet had flooded - the drip pan from the air conditioner had overflown, soaked through the ceiling, and soaked everything. At first Victor and his wife, Elaina, were very accommodating. Since I was out of town, Elaina washed my clothes for me and saved what she could. THEN, Victor discovered that the backup was caused by the clog in the sink, and KEPT THE CLOG, to show me that it was MY HAIR. Creepy and gross. He denied me ever telling him that the sink was clogged. At that point, he said I would need to pay for all of the repairs AND pay his wife for cleaning my clothes. Well, I was going to get her a thank-you gift or something, and I never did, which makes me feel bad, but I was not going to pay them $100 for doing a few loads of laundry (which was what he demanded). All in all, with the damage to the closet and "double sided tape" he claimed we put on the walls but didn't, they took about $900 out of our $1400 deposit. At one point in our argument, Victor, accusing me of trying to scam him, told me that he could "see right through me and all the way to the horizon." He also claims that Russians landed on the Moon secretly before the US did. Well. Needless to say, I would warn anyone off from moving here. OH, also, my roommate's car was stolen from the garage while we were there, and I once saw a car jacking in the middle of the afternoon across the street. So there's that, then.

The negative reviews on this site are highly accurate. The place itself is okay. It's a bit cramped, but the hardwood floors were a good sell. HOWEVER, the landlord made it really difficult to feel at home at this place. He is extremely intrusive and bossy. Unless you want to be talked AT against your wishes by someone who imposes his own racist backwards opinions on you, you'd be wise to stay away from this place. He will talk, more like lecture, but he will not listen. EVER. The unit will need repairs often and when it does, you can expect an invasion. Not for a day, but sometimes intermittently for months during which time he will go on endlessly about how he was so clever to find a way to save a lot of money by cutting corners. He will also try to keep as much of the deposit as possible. Somehow, in his distorted mind, it is absolutely necessary to spend more than average for cleaning (and he will give you plenty of justifications) while costs of maintaining the building can be cut drastically without sacrificing the quality. Obviously, that is some BS. The kicker is, he actually believes that he is a good landlord. There is more to say, but this is probably enough. I hope to save other tenants from experiencing the landlord from hell.

I lived at the Berendo Court Apartments for close to five years, mostly because we couldn't afford to move out until recently. It's a decent building with your own parking space, unless the landlord takes it away to park one of his many cars. The main manager runs the building with his wife. She is delightful and seems willing to help out when needed, but the manager on the other hand is racist, rude, a prick, sexist, and the ultimate definition of a scumbag. If you move into these apartments you won't have your own place you are basically moving into the managers house. He will enter you apartment without warning, regardless if you're home or not, to "fix" something or take in packages for you and won't deliver them until he's good and ready. He always treated us like dirt even though we were modeled tenants, always on time with the rent and never noisy and basically kept to our selves. He hated us because we called him on all of the laws he would break on a daily basis. He even tried to evict us because we wouldn't take his BS. When we called him on the retaliation eviction he took it back after we threatened to sue. Don't move in to these overpriced apartments because you will regret it. People move in and then out so quickly more then anyother place I ever lived before, and when asked why it's all because The Manager sucks cocks. DON'T MOVE IN!!

The manager Victor is a factor. He can be helpful, and also nosy, invasive, and OCD controlling/picky. He talks a lot but does not listen if he doesn't want to hear what you have to say. You will pay $200 from your deposit when you move out, regardless. The units vary in quality. Other tenants are mostly sane and quiet. The location is good, there is covered parking which is a major plus, and a patio. The walls between units are unusually thin and noise/privacy is something you have to keep in mind. All in all, it is decent, slightly tacky, comes with a strong personality attached, verges on overpriced, but is overall not bad and the patio is nice.

I just want to make it clear that the managers are completely inconsiderate of your space, privacy, and property. I've been a great tenant and they really have rubbed me the wrong way. They rarely come to fix anything and, when they do, they couldn't care less about your property. They told me when I moved in that we'd never see them becasue they'd try to stay out of our business but it turns out they just can't admit when they're wrong, they disrespect you (and your friends) to your face, they disrespect your property and they rarely fix anything. If you want a manager who will sneak around your back, come in and out as they please, and completely disregard your orders to stop (per the LAW, mind you), go ahead and move in. Likewise if you want to repeatedly remind them to fix something they broke in the first place. You better believe I'm moving out once I save up enough money.

Our landlords @ the Berendo crt. apartments are con artists. They enter our apartment to "fix" stuff without letting us know and when confronted they claim we ok'd it. They talk at us and never hear what we're saying to them but make ---- up in their heads. They are EVIL!!!!! They also break ---- and never come around to fixing it until we hound them. We are good tenents, quiet, rent is always on time, but they have no respect for us and descriminate against us because we are a little weird (their words).

I lived in a 2B/2BA apartment that was on the courtyard floor. What a WONDERFUL experience this was, especially at the price.

The neighborhood is incredible. Full of young, artsy people, great little restaurants, a movie theater, shops etc. Griffith Park is just a couple of minutes away. Great access to freeways, downtown, the valley, and hollywood. It is a very good lifestyle and I miss it very much. The aparment itself was simple, but adequate. Furnishings and appliances were functional and not too loud (as far as design goes). Neighbors are polite and easy to deal with. There isn't too much of a builing community, though, if you need that. Laundry rooms are fine and on each floor. The manager was sometimes difficult to pin down (usually choosing really cheap, ad-hoc solutions to problems) but nice and responsive when you are reasonable. He was a character, to be sure, but a nice, decent man. He and his wife take great pride in covering the courtyard with beautiful plantings. The ground floor, gated garage is a great luxury - no hunting at night for parking!

We did have a serious problem with some flooding into our apartment from our patio, but it was eventually resolved. I think that management was undertaking efforts to do some re-grading of the courtyard to address that.

All in all a great experience, though I suspect prices have climbed quite a bit since I left!!
