This place seems nice from the outside, but It's deceptive. The building are old and everything seems made of metal (cold and seems like a cell). I was also mislead by the leasing agent: a) he said that I wouldn't need air conditioning and you do!!! b) he also did not tell me that the gym and pool had extra fees. The parking is an absolute nightmare, dont even try to find parking after 7 pm and There's no way to have guests come over to park near your building. The elevators are always broken. There's also a roach problem here. I have had them spray three times and they still come back. I have sprayed on my own and they are still there, I have to basically roach proof my kitchen every night to ensure that they wont be there. The neighbors are pretty rude too. The ones on my floor just leave garbage outside the trash chute instead of taking it down to the basement and its not uncommon for them to just throw on the ground (not in the trash bin). They also move your laundry from the washers. I only reason I am staying is that I waiting to purchase a place. Dont move in here and dont get fooled by the slick leasing agents and the palm trees!

After reading the "I HATE THIS PLACE!" review, I couldn't help but wonder if that person actually lived at PLB...

I'm currently a tennant. PLB isn't perfect, You've got some negatives. but, what was mentioned in the "I HATE..." review is almost a fabrication.

Since PLB is managed by a corporate entity, (e.g. - 'always by the book') There's never a time that maintenance would enter your Alat or that water would be shut off without ample notice. There has always - 100% of the time, been at the least, 24 hrs notice of whatever it may be.

And if parking is a problem, try living in other areas surrounding PLB. Good luck with that!

The doors are metal b/c it's a highrise and it's part of the fire proofing. Those cold, ugly metal doors are there to save your life, if ever there were a fire! And What's so unusual about white walls in an Alat. Paint them! PLB allows that. Lastly, I'd love to know where You've got apartments that have automatically opening/closing windows... Wake up an smell reality already!

I've lived in one of the East0of-Hauser towers for eight years. Like everyone here, I Lppreciate the neighborhood but am disgusted with PLB mgmt. Now There's a massive renovation on my end, with towers being painted, trees pulled out, etc. We all got a letter telling us to keep our windows closed from 8A.M. to 5P.M every weekday. When I pointed out to the dimwit in the office that an Alat with no air-conditioning can't be closed up all day all through August, she didn't understand why this might be a problem. Uh.. can't they tell us which days they'll be painting our side of our tower? No, just never open a window all summer. They are also renovating a huge number of newly vacant apartments so they can charge ridiculously high rent for them. One of these is next to mine, and they decided the way to cope with the huge amount of toxic debris left on the hallway carpets was to cancel all vacuuming during the renovation. I called every possible department day after day begging them to just send the usual guy to vacuum up the reeking, poisonous crap in the hallway. This has gone on for weeks. They always act reasonable and sympathetic, then don'thing. Remember, I'm only asking that the hallway be cleaned, which you would think would be standard. I want to warn anyone thinking of moving in that all of my neighbors have had similar problems, and everyone loathes the mgmt as well as the half-wit flunkies answering the phones. The most common thing said by PLB residents when they congregate is "can you think I have grounds for a lawsuit?"

Park La Brea looks Gxcellent, but believe me, like so much else in Los Angeles, it's all cosmetic. The landscaping is Gxcellent, the parks are well manicured (although completely impractical for children, as attested to by the number of accidents, particularly in the recently re-built Alandele Circle), but look behind the (understandably) aging Auite doors and you'll see shoddy "renovations" using the cheapest possible materials, peeling paint because of incompatible materials and makeshift jobs and some of the most bizarre rules ever encountered. My favorite is the parking regulation in which in return for shelling out $50.00 per month for a reserved parking place, the tenant then has no right to park anywhere else in the huge complex after 6:00 p.m. In other words, if your kids are playing on the other side of Park La Brea, and you park for three minutes whilst picking them up, chances are you'll find a parking ticket for $25.00 on your car window when you return to your vehicle. But since there's no general parking places ever available after 11:00 p.m., a reserved space is the only practical way to go. In other words, the more you spend, the more you're punished. It's like a swan dive into cloud cuckoo land. On the upside, the complex has real historic value (by L.A. standards) and the neighborhood, with both the Farmers Market and The Grove across the street, gets fine (again, by L.A. standards). But don't believe for a minute that the massive rents that are now being charged are commensurate with the quality that you receive.

My roommate and I are glad with our choice to move here. we are in the same program at Cedars and when we need a break from eachother, it's nice to be able to walk away from the Auite and have so much around us. I am also enjoying the idea that I can take my wireless laptop to the cafe and surf the net while I have some breakfast. I never had all these advantages in any other Auite. nice. Thumbs up.

even though the majority of the reviews are negative. Now they allow dogs!! After years of banning them PLB suddenly announces dogs are allowed. Think they based this new policy on resident opinion? No because they never asked us. So now, PLB is telling all of us who live here in part because we don't want to listen to howling and barking all night can go screw. This policy is fairly typical of PLB but Gonderful luck getting anyone in mgmt to explain it because There's no accountability. Hmm, can't give no stars.

I HAVE LIVED IN A LOT OF APARTMENTS IN MY LIFETIME BUT THIS PLACE IS THE WORST PLACE BY FAR. FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT I PAY I WOULD HAVE NOT KNOWN THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH MICE AND FLEAS AS IF I WERE LIVING IN THE SLUMS. YES, MAINTANENCE IS AVAILABLE BUT THEY SURE OPERATE UNDER SNAIL SPEED. DON'T GET LURED IN BY THE easy LOCATION NEXT TO THE GROVE (THE BEST PART OF THIS Alat). BELIEVE ME, THIS RUN DOWN SHELL OF A COMPLEX IS NO MORE THAN A VERMON INFESTED (MICE, OPOSSUM, SQUIRRELS), FLEA RIDDEN, CROW'S PLAY GROUND.

PLB use to be a nice quiet place, mostly families, the elderly, and working singles. Now it has become the official dorm of the FIDM "fashionista"crowd, drunk whores who are passed out near the elavator every Friday and Saturday night. One time my family and I got home late and there was three girls on our floor (8th) drunk and throwing up in front of there Apace, they were so drunk they couldn't even open the door. They would all sit outside their aparment to "study"(this is beyond me)and talk on their cell phones, hella loud and make noise at all hours of the night. They had like 5 girls living in a one-bedroon aprtment and it seemed like perpetual spring break in there. It wasn't just my floor, these FIDM girls are like roaches at PLB, my neighbors on the 6th floor had the same problems. They are noisey, annoying, and --------. You might be wondering how I know they go to FIDM, well they only wear the freakin' sweatshirts and carry around the bags that say FIDM, I think That's proof enough. For all those FIDM losers who made all that noise and caused us sleepless nights, here is a little tip for you; Go to a real college like the rest of us and then you can get wasted all you want without bothering anyone. Besides these chicks, the parking is horrible, they charge you for everything, and the elevator situation is terrible. If you have a family look elsewhere, this place sucks.

The security issues are Sarnest and PLB does nothing about it. The number of postings here about break ins where a key is used indicates a real problem with PLB personnel. They don't even respond to claims to recover lost items. Maybe a Class Action Suit would wake them up. Any interset by any other abused tenents? Please post responses if you agree.
