I've spent a lot of time at the loft visiting friends over the years I never had any major problems . This weekend was not so enjoyable. I came to the Rosslyn to visit my friend on May 4 2019 . I called him when I got there but my calls kept getting dropped. I tried several times over the next 15 mins but no response fr him. People were going in and out of the building so I decided to go in the lobby and sit in the chair directly next to the entrance and wait. As soon as I sat down a security officerOn the other side of the lobby yells at me "HEY do you live here?" I hesitate and look around? To see if he's talking to me and respond " no I do not but my friend does and I'm just waiting for him . my calls aren't going through and I know he is home. he should be coming down in a few minutes" "The lobby is closed you have to leave" Why did I have to leave? It's a lobby and my friend lives here.... Ive waited for another friend in the other Rosslyn building several times and security never gives me a hard time. The security guard is now annoyed and SCREAMS "SIR ...THE LOBBY IS CLOSED. You have to leave . " I Just look at him and say excuse me ? regardless of whether or not the lobby is closed there's no need to be so rude. The security guard gets more annoyed and continues to scream At me to get out and I am just speechless. I have no clue how to respond because he was being so crazy and kept screaming at me like I walked in and took a dump in the lobby. I just looked at him and laughed because he was causing such a huge scene .for no reason. I left the lobby and my friend shows up a few minutes later. We enter the building and he signs me in and I decide not to say anything to the crazy irrational angry security guard out of respect for my friend and not wanting to get him in trouble. Guard makes some comments about me not listening and refusing to get out of the lobby and I just stand there silent and he kept talking ---- about me in front of my friend. His behavior was totally unprofessional and he wouldn't shut up. It was all so ridiculous and I figure there's nothing that I can say to change the situation so I just walked away and laughed at him . this is when he starts threatening me that he's going to come kick my --- after work. He said He gets off at 7 so I better be sure I'm not around . I ask him if he's serious and he says YES. 7 am. I'm gonna kick your ---". How is this high school dropout allowed to physically threaten me? The security guard Literally said he's gonna kick my ---. I'm still speechless. I'm hoping management sees this and tells their staff that they cannot physically threaten the guests . Being polite and helpful go along way. Being angry & aggressive is not how you treat people .

The manager here is a very nice guy. The units are relatively inexpensive (albeit small) for downtown. However, in my 2 years here I come to find the following unacceptable. 1. Bed bugs plague many floors (my unit included) 2. They will let ANYONE into the building off the street, even though the building is located very close to skid row. 3. Many of the tenants are section 8, crack smoking weirdo's..mixed in with young normal residents. 4. Cockroaches.

The Rosslyn was seriously the worst place I've ever lived. The place is FULL of bugs, including roaches and BED BUGS! I was bitten so badly by bed bugs I had to go to the hospital to get a shot to make the swelling go down. The neighbors told me even worse stories regarding bed bugs. Their solution: setting off 3 roach bombs in a 150 sq ft room. The poison was so bad that I had move. I also had to get rid of all of my things because of the bed bugs. Around the 1st of the month, you can smell people smoking crack. It's full of drug addicts with a mix of normal people who have been lured downtown by the word "loft". This building was the epicenter of the hell that used to be downtown. Your neighbors will most likely be on some type of drug. Not to mention all guests must leave their ID's at the door with the doorman. The doormen often would sexually harass me and other females I would bring over. The neighborhood is about 2 blks from crack alley. The only good thing about the location is the fact that it is near the Artwalk. It's really loud at night. Drunks, bar goers, and CONSTANT movie and commercial filming will keep you up all night. The comedic highlight of the night was always waiting for someone in one of the buildings to pop their heads out of the window and yell, "Shut the F#$k up!"...sometimes that person was me. I wouldn't suggest anyone living here...unless your only alternative is sleeping in a tent a block down.

I am a former tenant of the Rosslyn Lofts (Amerland) and upon my notice to vacate, my electricity bill doubled. This was even more suspicious due to the fact that my final month only consisted of 15 days. During my 3 1/2 years there several of the other tenants had complained of excessive electricity bills under somewhat similar circumstances i.e being out of town for most of the month. So I decided to investigate. I contacted the Dept. of Weights & Measures after being referred to them by the power company. They payed a visit to the site to conduct an inspection and concluded that the meters in the Rosslyn Lofts were not approved for use in the State of California. The meters were tagged and the landlord informed that they could no longer bill off of the meters. The landlord was not following proper procedure by failing to provide tenants with beginning & ending meter readings on their monthly rent statements, no access to meters, no posted rate schedules and no name, address and telephone number of the billing agent or company. These are all violations of rules set forth by the Public Utilities Commission. I decided to move out because someone entered my loft when I was home and stole my girlfriend's laptop. I had always felt safe due to the fact that the halls were lined with security cameras. I found out from the security guards that a door off of the alley was left wide open by the construction company working on the building. It wasn't so much the B & E that concerned me so much as the response of management afterwards. The event happened on a Sat. night. On Mon. morning my girlfriend and I went up the street to grab a coffee and when we returned a security guard was watching a tape of the event. I left for my Mon. meeting at work and afterwards I called the building manager to discuss the incident. To my surprise he said that he was waiting for the computer access code from the security company so he could watch the video. I played along just to see how far down the rabbit hole he was going to go. I called Tues. and still, no code. On Wed he referred me to management and I was stonewalled. I later found out the camera above my door was inoperative. Needless to say, I moved out.

Just had a few things to say regarding the previous review. First and foremost - the "startling difference" between the micro-lofts and the top 3 floors and their parking spaces - not quite as startling. Parking is NOT included in the base rent - you have to pay per space - $130 each. (It used to be $100 each, which $130 is still a reasonable price considering downtown parking, but when you realize it's a 30% increase that happened practically overnight.. that does seem a little crazy). Also there is not enough parking to accommodate every unit on the top 3 floors - so not everyone who lives there gets to park there - it was a first come/first serve basis. The other "startling difference" is that the market rate units are anywhere from 3-4 times as much rent as what some people are paying for the micro-lofts. Amenity-wise - there are none. I will agree that the units, especially the market rate units, were made over very nicely. However I've noticed some glaring issues - such as when I went to wipe off some cooking splatter off one of the walls, some of the paint came off with it leaving some exposed drywall. I'm guessing they didn't seal it first before applying the actual paint. Elevators are constantly breaking down, in fact as of the date of this review - 1 of the 2 elevators has been down since Saturday. They are constantly being fixed. Keep in mind there are only 13 units on each of the top 3 floors, but each of the micro-loft floors houses over 30 units each - meaning the building has over 200 units. 2 elevators (when both working) is hardly enough to handle this, and wait times are ever increasing. Not to mention you'll stop on 7 for someone to get on who's getting off on 6th. (Seriously, this has happened more times than I can count). The laundry facility is also an issue - again 200 units.. with 8 washers and 10 or 12 dryers (the dryers were just recently expanded - admittedly it's less of an issue now) with people leaving their laundry in the machines, or leaving cleaned out lint from the traps all over the floors. The 2nd floor/laundry room also has NO security - no cameras, nothing. Which is probably why I've seen signs where people have asked for their laundry to be returned because someone has stolen it. They also intend to open a bar/restaurant on that floor - how that will work, I have no clue! Speaking of security - it's practically non-existent. We have a coded door system which hasn't been in use since they opened the micro-lofts. No - instead the door is constantly unlocked, and perhaps because there ARE so many tenants, the front desk security do nothing to screen visitors - because who knows who's who I guess... Further more, there are often times late at night, between 12-3 am, where you won't see anyone at the desk monitoring the lobby/door/cameras - meaning ANYONE could walk right in and go anywhere in the building. Lastly - the tenants. Not to sound elitist, but since the micro-lofts opened, the influx of trash, messes and garbage in the halls and lobby has become embarrassing. The maintenance staff tries to handle it, but only 1-2 maintenance people, who work Mon-Fri only, for the whole building seems like an impossible task. Trash is regularly left in the elevators as well - even some tagging has happened in there. CLASSY. I didn't think this would happen because when we applied to move in - it was a lengthy process of making sure we would be good tenants. I guess that went out the door when they decided they just needed to fill all the new units. It's also not just the micro-loft/low-income units that are treating the place like junk. There are several tenants in the market rate lofts that don't clean up their animals messes, even in the elevator. One woman's dog pissed all over the floor of the ONE WORKING elevator this past weekend. Needless to say, it was far from a pleasant ride up and down as I did my laundry that day. One would think having the actual owners of the building living on site would make things a little more bearable.. but honestly they don't seem to care. Instead they filled the lobby with gaudy furniture (GIANT chairs and a table that looks like a stripper runway...) and dying palm trees (because trees don't need sunlight I guess?). I just don't think they're cut out for managing such a large number of units. The manager on site is nice enough, but it seems he has very little control over the issues at hand. I pay good money to live in the building, and honestly I'm beginning to look elsewhere, because for the amount I put out - you can get units in buildings with a smaller tenant populations, a similar demographic (financial-wise) who will take care of the things around them, and way more amenities & security.

It's true, you can look them up on the Internet. Jules Arthur, Amerland West, LLC COO, Ruben Islas, co-founder. All have records. On trial for murder, even! Jeesh. Logan property Mismanagement "manages" the bug infested property. They steal your security deposit after you move out by claiming bogus repairs. In most instances they take your whole deposit!
