THE BIXEL BIBLE: Thou shall pretend the suicide on the second floor months ago or the murder a couple buildings down weeks ago did not happen.. Thou shall not receive any help from crystal or maheen on any matter unrelated to giving them money.. Thou shall not sleep. Bless thy thin walls, floors, and ceilings for we love it when the entire unit rattles. Bless the barking dog down the hall as well for that is something all residents loved listening to for hours on end.. Thou shall manually lift the garage gate when it's broken weekly and you have somewhere to go. Bless thy thieves that will pounce on the opportunity to walk in and break into cars.. Thou shall not receive thy deposit back.. Thou shall never see your manager or leasing agent. Bless her anxiety that keeps her inside her unit all day everyday to avoid tenants in the hallways. Blessed be those she chooses as her favorites, for she will take their words as fact and use it to take money away from you. Bless her condescending bipolar nature, anti-semitism, and incompetency at her job for we all know she is the real victim here.. Thou shall pretend the homeless people and crackheads asleep/panhandling at the entrances/exits of the community are not there. Bless the empty syringe needles and smashed bottles in the hallways. Bless all the dead birds, bees, and other bugs there too as well.. Thou shall hate your neighbors above and below you, but be cool with those next door. Bless the airbnb units that throw parties and orgies with no regard to time or noise. (No really, there was a 15 man orgy in the airbnb above me during my time there that went from 6pm - 6am. We heard everything..) Thou shall ignore the cockroaches in your unit.. Thou shall be comfortable with the fact this building has less than 8 functional cameras for 5 floors and 2 parking levels total regardless of 240p resolution. Bless the entry gates that any 5 year old can jump over.. Thou shall pretend the apartment exterior is clean. Bless the dog poop that fertilizes the plants/sidewalk and rapidly growing mammoth fly community. Bless the rats that pop in and out of the sewage pipes.. Thou shall let security eat lunch for their whole shift.. Thou shall not need consistent internet. Blessed be the shady third party services that charge high premiums for inconsistent and unreliable wifi because let's face it, who really even works from home these days.. Thou shall let the markos the maintenance guy trick you into giving him a tv since he asked for it, and then be charged for the removal of said tv. Once again, blessed be the deposit that i won't be getting back Thou shall spend money, time, and effort to touch up paint blemishes, then proceed to be charged $600 for repainting fees Thou shall receive legal advice, speak with other tenants, and begin the process to file class action lawsuit. Bless these jared kushner-esque slumlords Blessed be the Bixel Bible

This place is decent. But the service from the management is pretty awful and tenants are not treated well. It's over-priced for what you get especially in this neighborhood. Thefts on-site have been an issue.

I have lived here for about a year and a half. When I moved in, they had a Eurotech washer/dryer system. This already discontinued product is supposed to wash and dry your clothe in one unit. The washer/dryer has been broken since I moved here. The fan and pump doesn't work and my clothe gets steamed because its still wet. The dryer just puts heat on the wet clothe. I have contacted the manager multiple times for over a year. They say it's been discontinued and give false promises. The new manager Crystal Cho is rude and not helpful. Her way to respond to my frustration regarding this matter is, "I have only been here for a month." She gave me written documents agreeing to come on a certain day to change it. However, its been over a week and nothing has happened. I talked with her and she said she didn't know mine was not a stackable washer/dryer and did not order one. The apartments are great but the management is irresponsible.

No piece of mind. The building has nice amenities and the staff are friendly. However, you can hear EVERYTHING above and below you. Yes everything. If it is not the stereo/TV/dishwasher/normal talking/opening and closing of cabinets/etc... it is the constant THUD THUD THUD of walking around. It gets even better when the crappy buildings next door decide to throw a party or the police helicopter decides to swing by (even worse when facing said buildings). I need to constantly have my stereo on to drown out the other units - my neighbors probably appreciate me as much as I do them (i.e. not much). The staff can only do so much, but because of the construction of the building, the noise will likely always be a problem. People here are generally friendly, but that only goes so far when you can hear them 24/7. For the cost of the units and the location, it is not worth the hassle.

Love this building. If we were staying in LA we wouldn't be leaving. Nice neighbors, great management, super quiet. The only downside is that the neighboring buildings aren't as quiet and nice. This is a very dog friendly building!

I just recently moved in with a roommate here and so far so GREAT! The roommate has been here over a year and refuses to leave so that was a good sign for me. Jesse, the manager, went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed for move-in and even followed-up with me a couple times after to make sure I was happy. The few minor things that needed a quick fix were handled faster than I've ever seen anything done anywhere. If maintenance isn't available Jesse isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and that's unheard of anywhere I've ever lived. He's so accommodating and treats you like his best friend every time he sees you and is so warm-hearted and genuine. I have yet to find anything wrong with this community, building, location or staff and would definitely recommend it to anyone!

10 cars were broken into in their supposed secure parking garage, and one was stolen. Security is a joke.

I moved into Bixel at Fifth two months ago and I am really impressed. The management is extremely responsive to even the smallest problems reported. The complex is very well maintained, always neat and tidy. I value privacy having recently moved to Los Angeles from back east where I owned a large home - the residents here are mostly young professionals and I have had no issues with noise. My unit is huge compared to most of the similarly priced buildings in the area - I have a friend down the street paying the same rent that I pay for an apartment with 600 less square feet and no additional amenities. Management lives on site and as stated above is extremely responsive to residents. In the evening, a security guard is on-site and very 'visible' which is nice. One major downside: if you have AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. (any non-CDMA network) for your cellular carrier, be prepared to be unable to use your phone in your apartment. The concrete and earthquake reinforcements require me to stand next to a window or door and even doing that reception is poor and calls are often dropped. I now have a Verizon Wireless account as my iPhone and this building don't get along. Another major con: there is no cable service available to this building. Time Warner does not service the building at all and has no plans on doing so, which means no cable television, cable internet or cable telephone. DirecTV is available through a company called Consolidated and I have seen nothing but terrible reviews about Consolidated. AT&T is pretty much your only option for phone and internet service, and DSL is much slower than cable. These, of course, are issues the management has little control over but they could pose a major issue for some people. Overall, this is a great building and I am very happy here.

I've been here since Sept 08 and here's what I've experienced. It was kind of a rough start at first since this a new complex there was no internet for over a month and I was having problems getting my directv setup. Now there is DSL which has been fine. There was a pretty bad ant problem around Sept-Oct they got the place sprayed several times but they persisted. I didn't leave food out and keep a clean place I talked to other residents and they all shared similar problems. Management said they were moving inside due to the colder weather... ants have gone away but hopefully this is not a seasonal issue. Have had a couple of issues with appliances but management has been prompt to respond and have been happy to help/fix any issue. Staff: Excellent and friendly. Everyone in the leasing office is great and helpful and so are the night security. Parking: It is great here there are 2 floors of underground gated parking and many guest spaces. Noise: There is a film studio and community center across the street and after business hours it gets quiet around here. However the ceilings/floors are pretty thin. There is also the police helicopter at night sometimes, but overall its not too bad it's still quiet enough to sleep with the windows open at night which is nice. Complex/Grounds: Grounds are well kept, although I have stepped in dog poo some pet owners do not take responsibility which is unfortunate on its way to becoming a problem. Amenities: Gym is excellent 4 cardio machines, excellent combo weight machines and dumbells. Pool is nice and heated. Spa is kind of small. Neighborhood: Just east of the 110 hwy close to downtown but not in downtown. Has its ups and downs, sometimes I wish I was in the middle of things and closer but overall I don't miss out on the noise and grime. Right on the border of the nicer part of town from Lucas west the neighborhoods get older and dirtier. Literally the edge, next door complex is older has homeless hanging out in front. Last month police blocked off from Wilshire up Lucas to 3rd St while helicopter went up and down streets with spotlight. There is also a Liquor/convenience store behind the complex but it closes at 9 so there aren't people hanging around there after. Overall Bixel neighbors are friendly especially pet owners. Very pet friendly complex.

If you want a quiet, clean, comfortable, and safe place to live that is walking distance from downtown, this place is perfect. I checked out several locations in downtown, and was turned off by the noise and dirtiness of downtown. Bixel at Fifth is just east of the downtown, making it a very short walk into downtown major, and is excellent. Everything is brand new, clean, maintenance is awesome, and management is fantastic. Everyone is very friendly and respectful. The pool, spa, and gym are immaculate. I have absolutely no complaints about this place. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone, unless you are a loud, inconsiderate, noisey person, in which case go away.
