I've lived her all my life, and it use to be very nice and was very quite. But now everything has gone down hill. The parking sucks, you only can park your car for 40 minutes on main strret and if you dont put in another pass, the toy cops they have her will give you a parking ticket...Thats all they really do...give out parking tickets... The rent is to much money and there is a roach problem and a rat problem on the bottom floors... you can't have a dog in eastwood, and the kids run up and down the hallway smoking pot and kicking doors... It looks nice when you come to visit but trust me it's not a place to live... I'll be moving out of her in 2 months after living here for 25 years.... This place is not worth the time to live at...

The experience varies from building to building. I have lived on a very peaceful and quiet floor for 13 years -- until recently.

The community has gone through massive change. New luxury buildings and a condo have been built, and the Eastwood development has come out of the federally subsidized program. Current Eastwood residents who pay below market rent will continue to do so for as long as we live here as per the agreement with our benevolent landlord (who didn't have to do that), but all new residents will pay fair market rent. Given my low rent rate -- this place is WELL worth it. My view of NYC from my huge bay windows are phoenominal and the close proximity to Manhattan (and Queens) are ideal. For the price I pay in rent -- I wouldn't live anywhere else. Maintenance is very responsive and Main street is kept clean. The island will certainly improve due to the new condos and luxury buildings. The island is also beautiful with peaceful promendades, city views and parks. We've lost a lot of greenland over the years -- but there's still plenty to enjoy. It's a great place to visit by tram for a nice bikeride or friendly stroll.

I do have new neighbors who are LOUD and inconsiderate. It's making my experience here less peaceful and has me thinking about moving. I have been fortunate for 13 years but the good times are ending. I imagine if you're in the complex on another floor you may not have had the same level of enjoyment as I. I hear about rowdy neighbors all the time. Living in a huge development has it's drawbacks -- and I guess that would be one. I have NO roaches or rats as the other poster has indicated.

Parking is impossible with a 40-minute maximum time on Main Street. Reserved parking in the lot is $235 per month. I drive, but the train and the tram is a 5 - 10 minute walk. Most kids attend manhattan schools. There is only elementary and JHS on the island and many of the kids there are with the families who work for the U.N. and speak english as a second language.

For the price I pay-- I LOVE it. If I had to pay fair market rent-- I'd expect way more.
