Marcus Garvey Village. Is the worst! Living conditions. are. ATROCIOUS and the staff do not care! Yes the apartments and space LOOK nice and the rent maybe affordable but I honestly wouldnt recommend anyone to live here.. The Maintainence is HORRIBLE and lazy they make a bad situation worst. The staff just sit aroun doing nothin It's possible a fatality occur before they actually fix anything properly. Cheap materials are used to make it appear nice. cabinets and doors fall off regularly . Everyday your greeted by a new rodent or insect. As an over all experience I'd give it a big fat F.

This place is without question a war zone! Constant shootings, trash inside and outside of the building. Pet poop and piss throughout the complex, inconsiderate neighbors with loud music, block the entry to tenants apts inside the buildings..by crowding / sitting on the stoops. Leaving their trash, spilt beverages on stoop as well inside the building for the mices, water bugs etc to feast off. Majority of apts have severe molding in apts...bathrooms, closets and kitchen. Which is NOT suitable living conditions. Appliances are refurbished refrigerators and stove. As for management my only complaint is that they don't put their foot down when it comes to enforcing some means of penalties on those who decides to disturb the piece or loitering to assure the safety of our children / tenants..basically implement a method that says ZERO tolerance for any tenant who doesn't comply to lease policy. Ex: clean up behind your pets ,no garbage thrown outside the garbage ben or issue a fine. More importantly its NOT a safe zone for children!!

this community is horrible they play music all over the whole complex for hrs @ a time. they do fire works from sun up to sun down during June, and July. it's dirty living on the outside and on the inside of your apartments are not fully fixed. They have lots of wholes in the apartments for mouse to get in. they have roaches & water bugs living with you rather ur clean or not. they lack of support wen it comes down to they tenants. they love taking ur money, but never wanna assit u wen it comes down to something being fix n ur apartment. make shore you all make good decions on wanting to live in Marcus Garvey village. it's false advertisement on they website. lots of gun activities and gang banging killing in the neighborhood kids aren't even safe to play outside it's very sad over here.

This area sucks really bad. Mice in apartsments and the Half --- do jobs. The whole apartment complex is mice infested. Also the people that lives here for many years are outrageously loud with music playing all types of night. I just moved here 2 years ago and the only thing that was great were them installing cameras and reopening Laundry mats. They security guards are lazy. I've even seen one sleeping outside on the premises. I give theses apartments 1 star rating.

To whom it may concern, I'm writing this email on behalf of a family member who has been humiliated and treated like less than a human being by the staff at Marcus Garvey Village in Brownsville. My family member and several other families are currently residing in a homeless shelter, they were referred to marcus garvey village because they were told they were one of the few places that accept the section 8 program. When my family member went to the leasing office a very nice young lady named Trina or Tina helped her with her application, explained the process and always showed compassion given the circumstances. After being told that the process would take 2-3 weeks my family member went back to the leasing office where she was treated like a second class citizen by a guy named Tony, whenever she asked a question he would commence to yelling at her like she was a child, whenever she called he was rude and would yell at her over the phone for asking for a status on her application and there was a very rude lady named Ms. Drew told her that she was not allowed to give her a deed which is part of the required documents needed to submit to the section 8 office for processing, when she finally did receive a deed no one could read what was on the paper, it looked like a glob of ink on the paper. She then asked another person in management named Andrea or Angela who pretended to care but was over heard saying "I don't give a ---- its a section 8 applicant, who cares about them I would rather a paying tenant anyway" What they do over there is collect an application fee with no intention on renting any apartments to anyone with a government program. Ms Drew attempted to assign a known lead paint infested apartment to my family member knowing she has young children in her household. They will give the person the run around making them think they're helping to keep them from contacting the city council, they are not for the people, they only pretend to be. I usually stay out of other peoples affairs however, this is deplorable. Its not fair for these people in management to be able to treat people who are already going through a hard time like they are less than. This isn't the first time that I've heard of this happening and I'm sure it wont be the last because these people in this management office are not held accountable for their actions. Who is going to stand up for the citizens? They simply want to find a warm place to live with their families. It makes me sad that I have to write this in this day and age. Our homeless population should not have to endure this type of treatment, I'm going to write the President next, we will not let this continue. Thank you for your time

I just moved in and already there were issues. 1st and foremost they didn t want to put in my fridge or stove until I "Officially moved in" Once a transaction is done (i.e. rent is paid security deposit) it s not relevant when the person decided to move in, everything should be in place so they have a comfortable living environment. I think security is very lacked as it is a rather laid back, which really don t sit well with me The space in the apt is pretty small as well. You can hear your neighbor arguing, or baby crying (amongst other things that might be going on aham). Since its rent stabilized that s about the best asset to it rent is based on your income. So other then the aforementioned, overall the place isn t too bad on a scale of 1-10 I d give it a 7.
