“I’ve been here for 2 months, and it is the worst living situation. If you try and contact property management, they ignore emails, take a week to respond and nothing gets fixed. It’s been terrible from the moment I moved in to construction material and food cans and wrappers in the apartment even though you pay an admin fee of about $450 for it to be cleaned and other things. The apartment is still having work done to it, it wasn’t up to code when I moved in, maintenance is coming in to do that work often, my apartment flooded two weeks in because the washer above me wasn’t installed correctly, the fridge does not work, laundry room is not set up, my apartment was entered without notice given to me, maintenance never tells you they when they will or have entered your apartment, at most that it is in a 48 period of time, the washer/dryer keeps having issues and does not work well, the laundry room is not set up, the thermostat and heat don’t work correctly, the windows let in a ton of cold air, the walls are paper thin and I can hear the person above my floor literally peeing, opening cabinets, everything and packages get stolen. This building and the building next door have non stop parties all weekend. The building and police have done nothing about it. You will seriously regret moving into their apartments. Also expect the property management company to to email you in caps and call you a liar even thought you have multiple images and videos.”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“Honestly, this place has gotten SO much better in the past year. They renovated, changed management and overall just improved so so much. I am so pleased to be living here! It is in the best location and my rent is literally $800 a month. It’s a steal. It is vintage, yes and it is an old building with character. But I have had nothing but great memories living here and I would really recommend it if you’re looking for something extremely affordable”
“Living here will teach you the true meaning of "you get what you pay for". Yes, it's probably the lowest overall rent in Lakeview, but believe me, you'll pay in other ways: - Rampant bug infestation (they're in the walls) - Roaches in the hallways & basement - Rats around the dumpsters behind the building - Ancient plumbing clogged multiple times in the kitchen, bathroom & bathtub - Terrible communication, disrespectful management (previous poster's comment about blaming you when you submit a repair request is absolutely spot-on) - Thin walls and ceilings (especially the apartments near the elevator, which is old and very loud) - Numerous unresolved citations with the city of Chicago, which you can look up here: https:// If you're lucky enough to read this before you decide to move in, I'm begging you -- please have mercy on yourself and live somewhere else.”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“Bed bugs. Bed bugs. Bed bugs. Waited to get my security deposit before I try to blast this review everywhere. Told them I found one, and they say they'll come spray. I tell them it needs to be a professional. They said they sent someone, but I never got proof. Shame on me. Cut to half a year later and I'm getting bites. Telling them to send someone. Takes them half a month. When the exterminator comes, he takes a call next to me and tells his boss it might be awhile because they needed to treat 12 extra units.... No email from Gloria/management to prevent proof of conversations. No responsibility taken. You will be blamed and gas lit for every request you ever make to Gloria and her husband who manage the place. The increase from $675 to $690 was too much. $675 is too much to subject yourself to this place. Seriously wouldn't wish this place upon my enemies. You WILL get bed bugs. Guaranteed. Even though they spray, they won't spend enough to actually solve the problem. The entire building is infested. Seriously. Run. Be smarter than me and save your sanity. Move back home before you move into this place. Cockroaches too! I've read exaggerated reviews before, this is not one.”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“I just moved in and wanted to submit pictures to the landlord as a security measure so that I can get my security deposit back in a year's time. The property manager Gloria shouted and screamed at me for asking for an email address, and ultimately refused to give me a place to send a record of what the apartment looks like. There are massive stains all over the carpet, the apartment is dirty, and certain tiles are being held together by duct tape in the bathroom. She vacillated between telling me that I should have contacted her immediately on the first of the month (it was the 9th when I contacted her), and saying that I should leave it until next year. I like the neighborhood, but the back door doesn't lock and communicating with management is made impossible by a shrieking woman. I'm trying to have a good attitude since I have to be here another year, but I don't think I can have much communication with Gloria.”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“First off, I want to let it be known.. I am the most low maintenance tenant ever. I hate confrontation and I'd rather fix things myself (google, ask a friend/family member). With that being said... This place is the worst apartment building ever. I'm not even sure where to begin. As soon as you inquire about this building, youll probably deal with Gloria... OH GLORIA. Probably high on the list of worst people you will have to encounter EVER. She might be nice to you, she might be rude, she might scream at you, she might just talk over you. Depends on her mood, the day, the weather. The walls are paper thin. You can hear your neighbors walking upstairs, eavesdrop on your neighbors in the hallways, smell all the wonderful aromas of food, burnt cooking and weed. Speaking of walls... I had mold in my unit. I told them about it for a year to come and fix. I sent them texts almost every day. I called them and just to avoid confrontation, I was patient enough to wait until they actually fixed it. It smelled at some point. I'm not sure if i got so used to the smell or it ended up going away. There was old mold, new mold, new wet walls, brown stains, black stains on my walls. They made great accents for my decor. Oh and when they finally fixed it, they just stormed into my unit without warning, got dust all over my ---- and left. I came home from work that day to that surprise! (the walls really werent fixed, turns out they had just been painted over the stains with one coat of paint) The windows are very drafty. it gets cold in the place. Old building, old windows. Just be forewarned you will always be sleeping with sweaters and thick blankets. The radiators work and make a noise. Very dry air and you may discover you have sinuses and allergies from all the dust the unit accumulates. Finally... the roaches. When i first moved in, the place was vacant and i found a big shiny roach dead on my kitchen floor. i called gloria and it must've not been a good day for her. She screamed at me and said it was my responsibility to clean the place. (LITERALLY the place was vacant and i was stopping in to check it out) Anywho, she and the maintenance guy or her husband or whatever he is said these are water bugs.. just put bleach down the drain to avoid them coming up.. So i believed it.. Totally false. These roaches made appearances all throughout my lease. I'd find a casualty here and there on my floor and in the hallways. Oh.... a few other things i got a really small case of bed bugs 2x. I had read on other sites it was a thing in the bldg but i'm not 100% sure thats where they came from. Also, the washer/dryers really suck. one wouldnt be working with no Out of Order sign. So you'd be robbed $1.00 almost every time you'd be doing laundry. It got to the point I'd haul my laundry into my car and do it at the laundromat. Lastly.. make sure you take out your trash in daylight unless you like rats scampering by your feet.”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“I have read past reviews and I thought "Hmm maybe I would have a better experience." Nope. Gloria never picks up so I haven't had much communication with her. Here is a list of what to expect: Cons: Heating: Expect on average 45-55 degrees inside your apartment. A space heater is crucial. Bathroom: Poor ventilation which leads to MOLD Windows: These windows are a joke. Very drafty. Don't expect to get your deposit back when you move out. Don't throw your trash out at night unless you like rodents. Bike room is packed with old previous tenants which takes up the majority of the space. Luckily most of the tenants do not bike. Kitchen sink and bathroom shower head always leaks. Pros: Location is amazing. Great restaurants right around the corner, Target, Walmart, LA fitness, Bars, Starbucks, Movie Theater, Public Transportation”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“I haven't been here long at all but definitely regret the decision to move here. The property manager Gloria is terrible and not qualified at all to be doing what she does. I have call her various of times complaining about an leakage in my apartment and both times she lied. Please people don't be like me and move here anyway because the rent is cheap and the location is great. From the time that I moved into my apartment I had to clean even the keys that I received was filthy. I had to clean the sink, the stove, and the refrigerator and the tub when I moved in. This place is a disgrace and god knows I can't wait until my lease is up, I will not hesitate to move out of this place. The windows don't close and the apartment is always cold. Please don't hesitate to keep looking for something better.”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“I just moved out of this place, and I couldn't be happier. This place is awful!! I wish I had spent the extra money to live elsewhere. Gloria is the worst lady to ever deal with. She will yell at you on the phone for stuff that isn't your fault. I got locked out of my own apartment 3 times. They never gave me the key to the bottom lock, even when I asked for it a million times. Then when they went into my apartment, twice to actually fix something (mind you that would be a month after me attempting to get them to fix it in the first place)and the last time for who knows what, they locked the bottom lock and locked me out! That last time I called up, they weren't even in. There was another lady there, I think the babysitter for her kid, and said they didn't leave the keys and they won't be back for a half hour. When Gloria called me back, she started yelling at me saying it was my fault I got locked out. Seriously?! I told her she never gave me that key so it is not my fault and I want to be let back and and given that key. She sent her husband over, because that is how Gloria is, and even he wouldn't hand over the key that I could get copied. I work at a hardware store, I told him I could get it for free. He said he would give me another key but yet again...never got it. Even to meet up with her to give back the keys and get my security deposit back was a pain. We were supposed to meet at 4, we agreed on meeting in front of the building. I called at 4:10 and she was in the office and said to just drop the keys in the drop box with my forwarding address because everything looked fine. Clearly she couldn't get off her butt to meet me like we intended or even call me to let me know she had already looked at the apartment! Thankfully that is the last day I will have to deal with her. At my new place now, and couldn't happier and wished I had moved out sooner! Anyone debating on living here, run away!! I had heard the stories from a friend and didn't think it could be that bad. But it really is. Roaches everywhere, awful awful landlords, and a building that seriously needs to be shut down from all of its inadequate maintenance.”

— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“Basically you get what you pay for. This place has got to have the cheapest rent in Lincoln Park but I certainly would rather have paid more to live in a better building. Management and ownership DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU (the tenant). If an inspector were to really go through this building, I'm sure it would be shut down. You have to ask at least 7 times to get anything fixed. They lie to you to temporarily shut you up. The wife Gloria has the worst attitude and shittiest customer service I probably have ever experienced anywhere in my life. Even to potential tenants! I wont go into details but had several major maintenance nightmares. Had the main hot water pipe burst beneath my floor twice and a toilet two floors above me got clogged (because of the terrible plumbing in the building) and got home to find a gigantic hole in my ceiling with water flowing out of it. Every major fix, they lied about when it would be done and left my apartment a mess. And they showed no sympathy or remorse what so ever. Oh and of course the roaches. In the spring/early summer, probably killed around 50 of them. And who knows how many wandered around at night with the lights out. My apartment never got above 69 degrees in the winter because the heat rarely turns on. In conclusion... DO NOT LIVE HERE!!”
— 640 W WRIGHTWOOD AVE · Lincoln Park“
I have lived in this building for close to 5 years now and somehow I've stuck it out. For the location you can't beat the price, yet at times I can't believe I'm still here. The local nickname for the maintenance guy is "Useless." Esample: After asking for 6 months to have my place painted I finally did it myself. Same story with carpet cleaning. Even to ask for a plumbers wrench to fix my leaking sink on my own has been an ongoing process for countless weeks. My neighbor has been asking to have his toilette fixed for 7 months. The windows are ancient and drafty and the heat rarely comes on in the winter. So if you don't mind sleeping in sweats, inslde a sleeping bag, under a comforter then it's the place for you! They recently put new windows in the units in the front of the building to make it look upkept, but don't be fooled. They only do repairs when water pipes bust, or the elevator goes out.

Oh, I can't forget to mention how the back door doesn't close all the time, and people have been in my building "soliciting"; probably off to see what people have in their apartments so they can rob them a week later.

”
