“I moved into a one bedroom at 1939 North Lincoln 5 months ago and I am so glad they asked me to sign a 6 month lease instead of a year. I had to find an apartment fast since I was moving from out of state for a new job. I'm eager to move out in a few weeks for the following reasons: - I toured two different BJB properties and found both leasing agents to be unpleasant. They seemed like they couldn't care less about renting the units. Because of that interaction, I've really avoided contacting the office for anything. My doorknob on the front door fell off and I just fixed it myself rather than waiting for someone to come fix it. I can't really speak to maintenance because I've never had to submit a request. - There's a window in the bathroom shower, so the bathroom was always freezing in the winter. My shampoo bottles had ice on them one morning! - They say utilities are included, but the heating/air conditioning units are electric. I quickly learned to keep the heat at around 65 in the winter when I received a $125 electric bill in February - The neighborhood can be really noisy. You get a lot of drunk people being way too loud on Lincoln Ave on the weekends. And if there's a concert at Park West, be prepared for noise. Fortunately my neighbors are relatively quiet. - The internet that's included with the rent is horrible, but I guess that's to be expected when you're sharing with a bunch of other people and it's satellite - Be prepared to scrounge for quarters when you need to do laundry. It's 2016 and this building still has coin operated washers and dryers. Every apartment I've lived in since about 2006 has card operated laundry. - There's no garbage chute, so you have to take your trash out to the dumpster in the alley, which is super fun when it's -10. - When you don't renew your lease, be prepared to get text messages every day from leasing agents asking if they can show your apartment the next day at inconvenient times. I'm actually moving out two weeks early now because it's gotten to be really annoying. - Street parking can be really difficult. Since Lincoln Ave isn't zoned, you get a lot of people parking there and walking over to the zoo on nice days. For the money you can find much better places to live.”
