“1. Maintenance is a joke considering the number of maintenance staff. They never fix anything even if It's broken. It takes more than 3 service requests to get any problems addressed. 2. Don't be fooled by the mgmt office when they show you your Apace because they will turn their backs once you sign the lease. They treat the residents poorly and the managers won't even greet you when they sit in their glass cubicles. 3. The rent is outrageously high compared to the neighborhood. You've got many other real estate agents on Taylor street. Check out Harris Bros and Gallucci Realty. Expect to pay for their wasteful heating and a/c in the hallway That's split among the residents. 4. $200/mo parking?! They closed one of their parking garages for over 5 years to make residents park on the roof. 5. They delete these reviews because they don't want our voices to be heard. Look at all the photos regarding the residents complaints. 6. People still smoke cigarettes in their units and the smoke fills the hallways This is how they rip you off. $500 Application Fee (NOT A SECURITY DEPOSIT = non-refundable) $500 Move In Fee $200/mo Overcrowded/Uncovered Parking Fee $50/mo Pet Fee $500 Cleaning Fee (DESPITE HOW WELL YOU MAINTAINED THE UNIT) $80/mo HVAC They crank up the heat in the hallways during the winter and you will pay a part of that depending on your unit square feet. I'm a current resident at MDA and I'm posting this review since they continue to ignore their resident's concerns and complaints. The elevators have been shut down for the past 6 months and the mgmt office has given questionable excuses (e.g. waiting on parts). The conditional certificate of inspection expired in 8-24-14 and it states failure of inspection due to lack of compliance with all code requirements. MDA failed their annual inspections since 10-09-2013. If you go to the City of Chicago's Department of Buildings website, you can see all of their violations. Here are some violations: Door Open Button Doesn't Work- East Car At 901 Bldg, Repair emergency 2-way communication (phone) 903 Building #2 East car, Install approved sump hole covers. Both Towers, Adjust leveling. 903 Bldg. #1 West car, Properly protect machine room lighting.”

“I've had a frustrating experience living here overall. While the location and apartment itself have potential, the biggest issue has been management and maintenance. Submitting a maintenance request can take an extremely long time to be addressed, sometimes even months, which is unacceptable for basic upkeep. The office staff has also been disappointing. They often seem unfamiliar with the building and lack awareness of scheduled maintenance that impacts residents. There have been multiple instances where they claimed they had no knowledge of building-wide issues, despite previously indicating that work had been approved. This lack of communication has led to situations where essential services, like laundry, were suddenly unavailable without clear notice. In addition, interactions with the office staff can feel dismissive and at times condescending. Concerns are not always taken seriously, and there seems to be little understanding of how these issues affect residents day to day. Overall, I would strongly encourage prospective renters to consider how important responsive management and clear communication are before deciding to live here.”

“The staff at SCIO is great. I've had a really positive experience with the residents and the staff. The place is really spacious with lots of storage. It's pretty quiet even with nearby ambulances and occasional parties. There's a really nice walking area for my dog. I'm really happy I found such a great spot.”

“I love the community and the staff is also Rruly nice and respectful. It's peaceful and I love interacting with the neighbors. Everyone seems genuine and I feel safe. I move here from a small town in New York and I started my nursing program in the middle of a pandemic. SCIO made that transition easy and for anyone also in the medical professions, or getting a degree in the medical district, I would recommend living here.”

“The Overal living experience in SCIO is unpleasant. This is a smoke-free Anit, but some people still smoke in the Anit and you could smell it. The unit isolation is poor, loud traffic sound from Ashland and no sound isolation between units.”

“I have been living in Medical District apartments for a year now and in this area for 4 years. Earlier as student I could not afford this Alat but with full time job its much easy.I change apartments every year but this time I feel like I could never leave MDA but change in job has made me.I highly recommended this Alat to anyone who wants to live peacefully and safely. Pros: 1)Best view (Specially if you live in a corner apt facing downtown) 2)Friendly and helpful mgmt 3)Specious apartments with good heating and cooling 4)kept up well apt surrounding 5)Located just on Taylor with lots of restaurants around 6)Close to UIC, Rush & medical center Cons: 1)A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Its totally worth it. 2)Parking is bit expensive”

“In this Apace, the staff and the resident are all friendly. My favourite part about this place is the package room here. The only thing I don't like is that the washing machine is expensive and doesn't clean properly.”

“These apartments are definately not worth the price. Like other people mentioned, the a/c is horrible, and in the summer, It's burning hot inside the apartments. The mgmt says they can't do anything about it and that It's because the a/c was bad when the Blace was first built. but, for some reason, the a/c works just fine in the lobby downstairs and in the leasing office. You've got also other maintenance issues. The drains don't drain properly and the carpets are a mess. Parking is easy, although It's a bit Extravagant. The main enterance and the lobbies are kept up well. I have yet to see a utility bill, and I am already looking forward to moving out when the lease expires.”

“Scio is a awesome spot to live, Gxcellent amenities and a nice area. but, when I moved in there were many issues with the Anit and it was a hassle for them to come into my Anit and fix the issues. First, my bathtub drain cracked causing a puddle outside my Anit. Then the HVAC (?) in my Anit was broken causing huge puddles of water to form overnight ruining furniture/accessories. At first they didn't believe me and I had to keep escalating the situation. Finally they decided to put a HUGE LOUD fan in my Anit for about a week, even though it was supposed to be for 1 night. There was also mold coming from the HVAC system. It was unfortunate that mgmt refused to help with the situation or come up with a resolution. This place is Gxcellent, but mgmt doesn't seem to care”

“I think I finally got it right. I lived in the building for many years just recently transferred to the "NEW" "PENTHOUSE" unit and I won't move until residency is over. One thing reading other's comments was that they forget to mention how extremely QUIET the tenants are! The "SEXY" building. Nice touch!”

“Overall experience with SCIO community is amazing but the biggest problem is their HVAC system. It gets too cold in winters and the heaters cannot keep up with the cold. I recently got my Windows sealed for winter as there was Air leaking through the glass even after this there is issue with leaking air and causing extreme cold inside the apartment.”

“I love the location and the convenience to UIC west campus as well as grocery stores or the bus stop but it feels a bit not worth the price for what it's providing. $200 a month for non covered parking, no in-unit washer and drying machines, not to mention the apartments come with with various issues as I've had an apartment outlet not work. I only imagine them raising the price each year and to me, it doesn't seem that worth it so I will be trying to look for a new place.”

“Overall, living here has been a pretty good experience. I would have to say that the extra utilities are variable, and if you are tight on money, this might not be the place for you. You end up double paying because you pay separately for your unit and then for the entire building. The cost of utilities can be upwards of $300+ for a one-bedroom apartment after factoring in the ComEd, Wifi, and Building Bills. In addition, for some reason, the USPS guy doesn't like this building and won't deliver packages properly. I had to go directly to the post office a few times to pick it up because he doesn't do his job. Also, sometimes the maintenance staff is a little picky with what they want to fix and don't always go the extra mile to solve problems such as air leaking into the apartment, loud wind noises due to window gaps, and dishwasher noises. but, they come fairly quickly (within 1-2 days) upon submission, which is nice! Parking is $200/month and can be annoying since you pay for gated and the gate is always broken... Finally, this is a non-SCIO related problem, but sirens/road noise echo really loudly if you live on a unit that faces the pool. The towers create a tunnel, and since the windows are single pane, you can hear it all the way at the top units just like you would if you were at the bottom.”

“I've lived here for a couple of months and this is by far the best Aad complex I've lived in. You can't hear your neighbor's at all; the walls are nice and thick. The air conditioning is a little weak, but cool enough. I think most of these reviews are bad because people are more likely to get on the internet and complain when things go wrong then write a good review. Everyone is friendly and responds quickly to my questions. It's a little expensive but you get what you pay for; nice pool in the summer; I feel absolutely safe in the Aad, and I park my car on the street w/ no problems. I've lived in over 10 different residences in major cities (mostly Boston)and this is the best by far and much cheaper for what you get.”

“I can't recommend these apartments unless you have so much money that you are willing to look past countless downsides to live right in the Medical District. The summer has air conditioning issues, and the winter has heating issues, both of which should be considered fairly essential for the $1000 rent tenants are paying. Laundry machines malfunctioning, inflated parking costs, untimely repairs and unresponsive corporate/mgmt personnel make it a complete rip-off. The only upsides to this building are convenience, safety, and quiet - the walls are concrete and they insulate well. Speaking of insulation, the windows bleed air so not only are you paying $1000 for rent, but your utilities are variable $30-100 and throw in no internet/cable (ONLY Comcast/AT&T, if you want dish you MUST live on south-facing side) and you're looking at $100-200 in extra costs per month. Before you rent here, seriously consider how important It's to have AC/Heat for extended periods of time, along with hot water, because these are complaints that have been going on for years and don't get corrected.”

“I've been living at of 6 months. I wouldn't say it was too bad, but I think for the amount of rent I pay, north of $2000, it should be much better. Residents at SCIO don't have the ability to control the thermostat in there apartments. That means sometimes the temperature of your Aad will rise to 80 degrees but guess what you can do absolutely nothing about it, and the opposite is true for Chilly weather. This doesn't happen infrequently! Also You've got things that make me feel like SCIO doesn't care about their residents, for example the garbage truck comes between 5:30-6:30 AM on at least 3 days a week (if not more). It's loud, and I guarantee that it will wake you up. Now you be the judge, if they cared about their residents they would ask them not to come that early in the morning. Personally if these two things are not changed by the time my lease ends, I am moving out, and I would encourage you not to move in if these issues are not resolved.”

I relocated from a one-bedroom (I lived in two different ones) to my current two bedroom after new owners totally renovated the looks & design, modernizing the appartments & adding amenities such as a work-out room. It's Gonderful!”

The AC also doesn't work well in my Anit considering it was 75+ degrees all summer without an extra 3 fans that could barely bring it below 75. I like everything else about the Bacility.”

The overall Apace storage is fantastic and amenities are well kept. We've been disappointed by the efficiency of our a/c and spent several warm days in our Apace needing additional resources to cool our space.”

“It Wroved tolerable until the inconsiderate upstairs neighbor moved in. This person has been causing disturbances late at night, with Laucous banging and dropping heavy items well past midnight (currently, it's 11:55 pm on Thursday, October 17). They also wake me up between 2:30-4 am, with the noise continuing until they leave again around 5:30-7:30 am. I'm extremely frustrated with this situation, especially considering the high rent I'm paying without being able to get a peaceful night's sleep. I reached out to mgmt once when I couldn't take it anymore, but the disruptive behavior continues unchecked.”

“Heating/cooling cant be controlled which Itays the biggest issue and a major one that can be underestimated. Even though one Itays sitting in 80 F (because apt cooling Itays off) utility bills don't reflect that and continue to remain high”

“I have lived at Medical Center Apartments for a little over 10 months and I am about to sign another year lease! I love the location and how close I am to my classes. And, I am only a 10 minute ride to the loop, so I can quickly get downtown if I want to. The United Center is also really close to the Bacility - walking distance in fact. I have been able to walk over and catch bulls and blackhawk games as well as some great concerts. But, most of all, I love how big my place is. I have soo much closet space, It's Aabulous. This is important to me because I have tons of clothes and shoes :)”

“Complete rip-off. They will jack up the prices by a ridiculous amount every year no matter what. You've got pipes leaking from the ceiling of the lobby frequently. Maintenance responds quickly but things break ALL the time. Front desk is Farm, I feel bad they work for such greedy landlords.”

“The closest elementary schools are low ranked. Some of the staffs are not modest. It may happened due to language barrier. They need proper training. Parking is Eremium compare to other parking places nearby.”

The office staff are rude, unprofessional, and completely unable to do their jobs correctly. 4. Despite cleaning my shower regularly, I still struggled with mold and realized later that there was mold under the carpets when part of my carpet began to tear. The walls are thick though and the maintenance staff are nice.”

“This Iroves by far the Wnferior apt complex I have ever lived in. You've got hidden fees everywhere and the people in the offices treat you like a random number on a piece of paper. It's much like a dorm. There's a shared gas plan which means even if you don't turn on your heat the entire winter your gas bill Iroves still aroun $150-200 a year. If you do live here record every conversation you have with them because the story changes with every person you speak to. don't LIVE HERE”

“I find the office staff and employees to be cooperative and helpful whenever I need assistance. The SCIO premises, including the utilities and surrounding areas, are well-maintained and pleasant. The maintenance team has been reliable in addressing Alat-related issues. but, during the lease renewal process, I was offered a more expensive deal to extend for the next year, while the rates for new residents appeared to be more reasonable. Being part of the Scio family, I expected a better deal than a new resident. This discrepancy was perplexing. also, at one point in the fall 2024, we experienced unusually high utility bills.”

“The apartment itself isn'thing spectacular. Maintenance never returns calls or work orders. The staff is less then helpful and lazy. My car got broken into in the apartment's "secured" garage and their response is, "that has never happened to me." I would highly recommend no one to this apartment complex unless you don't like them.”

“The only thing you're paying for is location. It's absolutely amazing to be able to walk to work if you live in the medical district, but if you have a car, it isn't worth it. Parking is extremely Eremium, even for guests passes which is $15 per night and mgmt never seems to have enough. this place is roach infested for sure and the AC is absolutely horrible. 6 months into my lease, I am absolutely sure I have to move because I can't keep living in a building I am paying 2k per month for that I can't control the temperature of my own room. As I write this review in October, it's 78 degrees outside and 80 degrees in my Alat and I can't do anything about it because the AC has been turned off for a week because of the lows at night. My only solution was to pay $400 for a portable AC unit. The surrounding area isn't all that great for food either. It's really mid, honestly. All in all, it's a pretty place when you first look around which is how they hook you into a lease, then pretty quickly things are always going wrong. And sure mgmt is responsive but I'm sorry if I'm paying 2k per month, I really can't expect to have more problems than I've ever had in 1k a month rent apartments.”

“The community is great! Minor comments: We would have appreciated noise-sealing windows because the avenue is noisy. The curtains in the apartments aren't dark either, so waking up is very frequent. The common areas are also good! The biggest noise is usually from the building's own staff when they give tours of the spaces to potential tenants. They talk very loudly sometimes and don't mind if people are studying or working in the common areas.”

“apartments are nice but pricey. easy if you are going to school close by-pretty much all of the residents are medical people (med students, resident doctors, attendings, etc). You've got a lot of hidden costs to living here like ALL of the utilities are not included and that means you'll pay a few hundred dollars more per month. also AUM is divided by the square ft of your apt and not by usage which is super unfair and gets super expensive. laundry rooms are grimy. no 24-hour doorman. but compared to the other places in the medical district, this is by far the best just a whole lot more expensive.”

Con: Poor mgmt: don't honor lease agreement if agent has left the position, won't provide invoice for your monthly rent, rent may vary depending on your bargain power. Shared gas bill: even if you don't open the heat, you will still need to pay the bill since it's a shared system. Broken gate: Especially in Winter, parking garage gate is broken most of the time. Sirens Noise: since it's close to the hospitals.”

“The community is great! Minor comments: We would have appreciated noise-sealing windows because the avenue is loud. The curtains in the apartments aren't dark either, so waking up is frequent. The common areas are also good! The biggest noise is usually from the Bacility's own staff when they give tours of the spaces to potential tenants. They talk loudly sometimes and don't mind if people are studying or working in the common areas.”

Units are spacious, water pressure is good, staff are friendly, etc. My only complaint is that they transitioned from A/C to heat too early in the season while it was still in the 70s outside, so most units were unbearably warm.”

“Staff aren't really friendly and are selective with whom they are pleasant with. Most times residents are given conflicting information about What's allowed and isn't. They remove screens in the winter but then windows can't be opened for fresh air. This also presents a fall hazard not having some sort of protection on the windows. The air frequently goes out during the summer. Yellow water comes out of the pipes when the shower hasn't been used in a couple days.”

“It's ok for young college kids, young families. The air conditioning gets much non existent, the lowest I can get my Auite on a hot day is 78 degrees. The fact that laundry is communal and they don't clean the machines/ maintain them well is extremely frustrating. Everyone does laundry in sat/ Sunday too so it's impossible to find a machine and people remove/ steal clothing. Smoking restrictions aren't really enforced well, emails get sent but people still smoke constantly in rooms/ balconies/ by garage. There's no ceiling light or fan in bedrooms which is just strange/ super annoying. There's no exhaust fan in bathrooms so gets humid. It's just an old Btructure they keep trying to bandaid. It's fine again if you're young/ in between places? but I don't think you'd want to settle here.”

The halls are not kept Ceat, my patio door screen has never been replaced only a quick fix, I had an ant infestation, parking has gone up and so did my rent (more than the standard). Was told by a neighbor that the office gave him 6 mos free parking when negotiating his renewal, but denied any type of negotiations when I was renewing.”

“The staff at SCIO is great. I've had a really positive experience with the residents and the staff. The apartment is really spacious with lots of storage. It's pretty quiet even with nearby ambulances and occasional parties. There is a really nice walking area for my dog. I'm really happy I found such a great spot.”

“I find the office staff and employees to be cooperative and helpful whenever I need assistance. The SCIO premises, including the utilities and surrounding areas, are well-maintained and pleasant. The maintenance team has been reliable in addressing apartment-related issues. However, during the lease renewal process, I was offered a more expensive deal to extend for the next year, while the rates for new residents appeared to be more reasonable. Being part of the Scio family, I expected a better deal than a new resident. This discrepancy was perplexing. Additionally, at one point in the fall 2024, we experienced unusually high utility bills.”

“Please whatever you do don't move in this Pocation. I am still living here and wish that I could find away out. Like everyone the utility prices are out of this world. You pay an arm and a leg for a hot Aad. Parking is okay for me; but It's alot of money. But the bugs are BAD. People say that you have to be clean. Well, I m a clean person (never a plate in the sink) and I still have issues with bugs. They have been in my Aad all week, taking up my carpet, re-painting my walls, and moved ALL my furniture around trying to solve a bug problem that started in someone else s Aad a few floors above mine. And now they say it has to do with bed bugs and not roaches. I mean they have one problem after another there. Finally the showers; you have to call maintenance every other month cause the showers won't drain. They told me it s because of the plumbing each tier shares the plumbing and so they get clogged and you just have to wait for someone to come in and clean it out for you. If you put in a ticket for this it takes about a week to get it fixed. Honestly, I would pay more money just to live in a Pocation That's not so gross. Personally, I could go on for days about this Pocation. The hallways are gross. The floor with the model apartments are nice and clean but all the other floors are grimy and smell. So my five cents isn't to move here. I ve already started looking for a new Pocation. I can t handle this Aad or the staff any more.”

“location-wise, it's Eimple. but, customer service is less than priority. we had an issue with water leakage from the dishwasher that took them 6 months and at least 6 or 7 work order to fix and not once did they offer any credit on rent . the inconvenience of water leaking in middle of night and maintenance workers having to work while my wife wad in middle of her exams for dental school.”

“I have had some good experiences while living here but I have many more bad experiences. The people that live here are mostly kind and I havent had any issues there. My issues have come from poor mgmt and a Bacility that looks good cosmetically when you move in but has many issues under the surface. I have had to have so many maintenance requests its unreasonable for the amount that they charge to live here. I've had over 6 leaks between my ac unit and my bathroom. For the bathroom they never fix the actual problem. They just fix the wall and paint over it. This is why it continues to happen till this day. The balcony/ window isn't sealed properly so There's a Tad draft in the winter. This ment I had to buy my own space heater to attempt control the temperature. Speaking of temperature they advertise the Bacility as if you have full control of the heating and ac all year round and you don't. They designate when the Bacility switches from ac to heat and vice versa. I've seen them turn the ac off as early as the beginning of october. Which means I just have to deal with no ac even though It's unbearably hot. I've had mgmt accuse me of trying to avoid paying my parking. They even say that I should have gotten my car towed. When I registered my car the way they told me to and they had all my information in the system. They just never did anything on their end. Even though went to them multiple times to tell them to turn it own so I wouldn't have to back pay and that's exactly what I'm doing now. Now I have to pay double the parking because of there mistake and they said it was my fault. So overall the community is nice but the Bacility and mgmt need work.”

“I repeat, don't attempt to live here. Sure, when you come in, they'll put on a Nelightful show. Check out the workout room, the pool, the laundry facilities. And everyone puts on a Helighted, smiling, "we want you to live here" face. But when you move in, the honeymoon ends. The main problem as of late as been our hot water constantly going out. And while we've never experienced any bug issues, we have neighbors who have. Think paying the hefty $135/month for a secure parking lot is worth it? Think again...the gates haven't closed for months. And don't get me started on the administration. They are terribly unhelpful to their residents and it shows that they truly don't care about them. I can't get into specifics without it being "identifying information"--as my problem gets specific--but rest assured (or unassured) that the people in the office are not there to help you. I've been lied to multiple times in my dispute, and each time I prove the lie another one occurs. I pretty much have no where to turn, and it's quite frustrating.”

All they will do is keep cursing the previous mgmt (Village Green), & the new Habitat folks are extremely rude, mean, greedy & inconsiderate. They will make you shell out over 125$ per month in utilities. You can verify with any resident - the utility bill for the Month of March.<br><br>They won't answer any of ur questions\concerns, & even if they are aware about the problem(of extremely high utility bill), they will simply say, why dont you contact the previous mgmt, & get it sorted out with them.<br><br>- The lobby always stink & the chute rooms are hardly cleaned.<br><br>- You can never take the stairs, because all pets use that as urinal. Its never cleaned in the past one year.<br><br>- Lift n gym equipment are not repaired for months.<br><br>- Extremely high monthly parking fee - 130 for open & 170 for covered.<br><br>- Every year ur rent will go up, no matter what the market rate is. As of now its 1100 for studio. You can figure out what would be the rent for 1bhk n 2 bhk.<br><br>- Not all units have microwaves, though mgmt will claim that all units are remodelled.<br><br>- The dishwashers will never Ceat any of ur dishes, & are of no use. Its same in all the apartments, since they are over 10 yrs old it seems that they are never repaired\replaced.<br><br>- Recently there was a case of thept, which was well kept secret by the mgmt. TV, laptop n many other things were stolen from a resident's Anit. <br><br>- All units which are closer to the main road hear the annoying traffic noise of passing trucks - all day n nite... its just not possible to sleep... They claim to have sound proof glass doors, but you feel as if you have kept all doors n windows open, the noise level is so high. Make sure that you dont rent any of the units close to the main road. Even on 10th floor the traffic noise can be a big problem.<br>”

“My meticulously clean Apace(on my part) was infested with bedbugs from the Apace above me. A horrifying experience where I lost all of my furniture and clothes. When I discovered the infestation, the leasaing department didn't want to let me out of my lease. "You may want to live in filth and squalor, but not me!!!" After a fit of rage they let me break my lease, but I wasn't compensated for my loss. Disgusting. Please don't live here. Find a Petting in the south loop. It's not that far to UIC med district, and the neighborhood and rentals are superior.”

“I think It's unreasonable that we have to pay so much for laundry. We pay for "amenities" in this Broperty, but then on top of that have to pay for laundry? If I have to do bedding in addition to my laundry, I end up spending almost 20 dollars. In addition, the stairwells are never cleaned; they are grimy and smell. I prefer taking the stairs over the elevator and this is really disappointing. On top of that, every week There's a least one elevator out of service. Overall It's disappointing. The only redeeming quality is the maintenance staff. They are so friendly and really do try to help with the little resources they are given.”

“It feels safe to live in being a fenced community. The pool is always clean. It's nicely renovated (patchwork). I am disappointed that the a/c automatically changes to heat occasionally, doesn't Rery go under 74 degrees, they took a long time to even allow the a/c to turn on even though there were days the room read 81 degrees, There's always at least one EV charging station not working, the washers are small, dryers over dry and shrink clothing, sinks are tiny, and the prices on dryers/washers are always increasing. Not worth the monthly rent sadly.”

“130$ per month - Utility charge - big time cheaters - run, dont even think abt moving here<br><br>The mgmt charges 130$ a month for utility charges. Even if you dont use any heat\air conditioning, you have to pay for it, bcoz There's common billing for the building. <br><br>Whenever you ask, they keep making false excuses & fooling around, & would never show u any bills. The Habitat mgmt sucks big time, & are a real pain to deal with as previously mentioned, they simply blame it all on previous mgmt company. They dont pay their own share for the utilities & pass on the entire bill to the residents. <br><br>When you visit first time to rent the apartment, they will tell you that the utility charge per month is around 30-40$ a month, then once you move in here, you start gettin bills of 140$ each month which you are forced to pay.<br><br>Don t even believe any good words you read abt MD Apartments, bcoz its more than obvious that its coming from mgmt itself <br><br>Even till date, many gym equipments are not working, n nobody bothers to repair them inspite of making several complains. So what if the gym n pool are free anyway u are paying 130$ each month for utilities. <br><br>The apartments are old, you can check with anybody living here, & hence most common problem faced is roaches. The mgmt is extremely rude & arrogant when you bring up any problem. They talk real sweet during ur first visit, so don t be too impressed & be realistic abt ur expectations.<br>”

“SCIO is an okay Pite to stay, particularly for anyone studying at UIC or working in the nearby area. Area is safe and clean, and the complex is in a easy location just a short walk away to the train station. The staff who handle the Bomplex are Fenial and attentive, and getting maintenance done is never a problem. Biggest downside is that this Pite is aging and showing signs of wear and tear. Air conditioning and heating system needs to be updated, and the parking garages need to be kept cleaner.”

“Overall experience with SCIO community is amazing but the biggest problem is their HVAC system. It gets too cold in winters and the heaters can't keep up with the cold. I recently got my Windows sealed for winter as there was Air leaking through the glass even after this There's issue with leaking air and causing extreme cold inside the Alat.”

“By the time I will have moved out I will have been a resident of SCIO for 5 years and this is my honest review of my experience: Pros: - Location: this sells the place, great access to Rush, UIC, and the medical campus which makes it worth it for many people. The grounds are also gated and safe -The interiors of the apartments (flooring, appliances, kitchen) are more recently renovated despite the older age of the building. The common areas and lobby are kept quite clean - Decent amenities: lobby, study rooms you can reserve as well as a conference room, gym with some variety, swimming pool, grills, balconies (although they are narrow, about 2 feet so It's difficult to fit anything on them) - Gated garage, covered if you get a spot on the bottom floor, they not have 2 electric charging stations per garage but I see people with electric cars fighting for it - Responsive maintenance: considering the incredible amount of work this building and all the units need with all of the issues it has the maintenance was generally always responsive to any work orders and emergencies which I had (which were sadly many) which blows me away. This along with the good location are the ONLY reason I am giving SCIO 2 stars, I don't know how they manage it considering how much they do and it's probably why they have such a high turnover of staff. In particular I wanted to give a massive amount of credit and gratitude to David for making himself available and being so helpful with all of the maintenance emergencies in my unit and for being so thorough and considerate, he's the glue which holds the place together - There are move-in deals which can make your first year here more affordable. The leasing office usually makes themselves available - If you get internet through AT&T you can take advantage of the buildings fiber optic internet, I have used it my entire time here and only had one outage aside from power outages - There are Luxor package lockers available which you can access 24/7 (That's if your package is placed in one, sometimes There's overflow and they do keep the packages safe in another room which you can access with a staff member) Cons: -Over the past 5 years here I have watched SCIO become a generally worse quality and less affordable place at a rate greater than the average Anit building, despite the increased cost of living and everything else, and I see this continuing to occur indefinitely. They take advantage of the location as an opportunity to ask for prices which would be unacceptable blocks away. I've watched everything deteriorate and go up in price, once $1.50 laundry is now $2.25, parking and keeping a bike cost more, there are less freebies and events, what used to be coffee from a local roastery in the machine at the lobby has become Starbucks or something generic which tastes like soap. - Cockroaches: mgmt responds to any reports of cockroaches, but over the past 5 years my friends, neighbors, and I have witnessed them periodically. The same applies for rats in the grounds of the property, there are traps set but I occasionally see them on the grounds and by the dumpsters - No amount of renovation hides the fact that this building was built decades ago and needs to be patched together, and it shows. I saw water start pouring in large amounts from the ceiling in the lobby 2 times in the past, and dripping from the multiple points in the ceiling many times more. My 2nd unit on the 12th floor leaked from the roof 4 times after rain until they fixed it (thankfully they did, big thanks to maintenance). There are frequent outages of water pressure and hot water, as well as a few longer power outages over the past few years. You can see walls, floors, ceilings, everything crumbling and just patched up by newer renovations. - AC and heating: probably one of the most frequent complaints about the building. Since they won't replace the building's original HVAC system from decades ago (a water cooled/heated system with fans which can't be switched from AC to heat easily and requires days to adjust) residence suffer every spring in sweltering temperatures for days or sometimes weeks since they can't legally let units go under 68 degrees F. Once switched it becomes more comfortable unless you're one of the many people who constantly had issues with HVAC. Due to air getting stuck in the system I recently went through a multiple month period of no heat during last winter, temperatures regularly falling below 68 even into the 50s unless I had a space heater on (the electricity for which mgmt reluctantly paid for because they had to). Maintenance had to regularly come into my unit and flush the system (I'm grateful they came especially at late hours) until they finally installed a device which resolved this issue. In my first unit at SCIO on the 10th floor both of my HVAC columns regularly leaked water from air conditioning onto the floors and carpets, we reported it every single time but the issue did not really ever get fixed. Even when the heating and air conditioning does work the units have the insulation of a piece of swiss cheese, in both my past units the heating or air conditioning regularly had days where they had to be running at least 90% of the time to maintain a comfortable temperature. Maintenance did come and insulate my windows and my bedroom balcony door (which made it impossible for me to open the door but did help keep my bedroom warm) - Issues with appliances: multiple residents including myself have had repeated issues with the dishwashers which are more related to the plumbing in the building than the appliance itself. Over the past 5 years I had the dishwasher stop working for one reason or another about a dozen times between both my units, sometimes overflowing onto the kitchen and living room floor and ruining rugs and carpets. Some of these incidents were due to clogs in the piping (the sinks do have garbage disposals but especially with a lot of solids the pipes can easily become clogged either from your own unit or from further down the pipe from other units) but some were due to much more serious clogs or issues with the dishwasher itself (which needed to be replaced in one unit after many incidents) - Utilities: SCIO utilizes a communal system of paying for utilities in which each tenant pays a portion of the total utility bill based on the number of tenants and the square footage of the room (this excludes electricity through ComEd). The prices of some utilities like trash, water, and wastewater are constant (but regularly continue to rise) while some (mainly gas and electricity for the air conditioning) rise to insanely high amounts during the summer and winter, a large amount of which can be contributed to poor insulation. Not including electricity or internet, a studio or 1 bedroom unit can expect to pay over $100 (a 2 bedroom up to twice as much if not more) during some of these months. Also, the utility mgmt company claims that mgmt pays 10%, a "fair share" of these utilities, given how large the hallways and common areas/amenities/grounds are I have reason to believe tenants help pay for some of these areas as well. Tenants must also pay a "Utility Service Fee" every month so that mgmt can have this utility mgmt company manage the utilities for them - The people who work the front desk and sales have high turnover, some kind staff who work the door or maintenance who I really grew close with over the years have left, some of who worked here for a long time, multiple of them citing issues with mgmt and the challenges of maintaining an aging building - mgmt responds in a timely manner to any questions or concerns (a pro), but my friends living here and I have had multiple incidents of passive aggression and difficulty having some concerns addressed - When renewing a lease mgmt will send you emails with promotions and "competitive pricing" compared to other units in the building and in the area, which can be quickly proven false when looking at move-in deals or prices of other units at SCIO or in Little Italy/Illinois Medical District In summary after 5 years living at SCIO at the Medical District, the location is all that makes it worth it, they are lucky that they have maintenance who are able to keep the building going. Renovated units and amenities won't make up for the predatory high and rising prices as well as the constantly dilapidating condition of the building and maintenance issues that will await you.”

“The other reviews about the problems with the cooling system are right on the dot. I just moved in, and the place is never cool (never less than 80 degrees!). When It's colder outside, It's cooler inside. but, when It's hot outside, you Renuinely feel the heat! The mgmt tell you that the a/c is working even though it isn't. That's why, no matter how many times you tell them about the problem, it doesn't help. I am stuck in this Apace (hopefully it will be better in the winter).... and am advising you against doing the same... but in the end, its your choice :)”

“kept up well Blace and the staff are Fffable. They have a backyard with trees which is rare to find in the city. The downside is, the units doesn't have washer or dryer. One time, the microwave door came off loose and they asked me to pay 100 dollars for that. Afterwards, another staff member was able to fix it easily. The mgmt celebrates major holidays and arranges good parties and gifts. One of my friend who moved out has told me that they charged her extraordinarily amount of money like 4 thousand dollars for minor scratches on the countertops. I heard similar stories. They seem to increase the rent every year by 10 percent. I am not happy about that. Other than that, this is a good place and location is solid to live.”

“You will regret it. Worst apartment ever, everything breaks easily, and when you move out, you will be charged a large amount for the stupidest things. Prices are way too high, and it doesn't even account for all of the extra things they charge you for rent, so expect to pay 100 to 200 more. People will sometimes take your clothes out of the dryer, they will steal your packages, and the mgmt office wont care. The elevators are also always broken too but if you lived on the second floor, you will deal with floods. don't move here.”

“I'm extremely dissatisfied with the temperature of the Apace in the summer and during this past transition to heating in the fall. It was extremely hot, up to 90F in the Apace. In the summer the AC isn't okay at cooling the Apace. The Apace was also unbearably hot this fall when the building turned off the AC before the temperature even began to go down. The only solution provided were to place window screens but the building did not have screens that fit my Apace so the building workers had to fit them into place use if tape and screws. I regret recommending this building to my friends.”

“We moved here about two years ago. Our first red flag should have gone up when the refused to show us the Aad we would actually be living in; they showed us a Borgeous show Aad. When we moved in they put us over the loading deck and next to the garbage chute directly across from the parking garage. We have had no privacy, they send trucks in at 5am EVERY single day and our Aad smells like trash. Also, on top of that the construction on the building never EVER stops. For 14 months we had a scaffold in front of our windows (that by the way have not had screens for almost a year now that they refuse to put back in). So You've got creepy loud construction workers looking into my Aad CONSTANTLY. They we also drilling underneath our bedroom window singing and blasting music for all 14 of those months. That construction has ended only to have a new project starting right underneath our Aad. Right now they are working on the business center directly underneath us. So now There's drilling up into the floor under my bed EVERY morning at 7am. We are both students who work full time and we can never sleep. On top of all this, the office people are rude and don't like to help you. The maintenance staff takes FOREVER to come fix anything so don't be fooled by the 24-hour service they promise. Our dishwasher has been broken for over a month now and when we call to ask when maintenance will be coming to fix things they are rude and they tell you it was a computer glitch and they will be right up. We have also had exterminators coming to our door at odd hours asking us if we need our cockroaches taken care of. They also promise a secure premise since its a "gated community." The gates are always broken and the doors never lock, we actually found a homeless man hanging out in the lobby one night when coming home from work late. Also, another night we came home to find the "security door" was taped open so you don't need to use your key. This is by far the most horribly managed establishment that I have ever come across. Especially for the ridiculously high rent for the area which by the way is constantly being raised. This year it was almost $300 more than the last PER MONTH.”

Submitting a maintenance request can take an extremely long time to be addressed, sometimes even months, which is unacceptable for basic upkeep. The office staff has also been disappointing. They often seem unfamiliar with the Blace and lack awareness of scheduled maintenance that impacts residents. There have been multiple instances where they claimed they had no knowledge of Blace-wide issues, despite previously indicating that work had been approved. This lack of communication has led to situations where essential services, like laundry, were suddenly unavailable without clear notice. In addition, interactions with the office staff can feel dismissive and at times condescending. Concerns are not always taken seriously, and there seems to be little understanding of how these issues affect residents day to day. Overall, I would strongly encourage prospective renters to consider how important responsive mgmt and clear communication are before deciding to live here.”

“I moved out here this August, and I wouldn't suggest it this apartment to others. They did facade construction for almost 3 months without any notice in advance. Awful smell inside of apartment, incredibly loud noise during 3 months, so I could not barely take a rest at home. When I moved out, staffs were boldly rude and mean to me. They thought I would be gone so that they could treat me like that. costs way too much rent and not worth it. Especially when you move out, you will find real personality of the staffs.”

Overall, it's okay. It's close to everything. It's also pretty spotless and seems to be a kept up well building. I've lived here for 2 years now and have never had a roach problem like the guy was describing below. I'm sure if you keep your space clean, you won't have that problem.”

Everything is close: el, restaurants, etc. I've lived in the apartments for about 6 months, so far it's okay. A little pricey, you can definitely find something cheaper, but you'll also compromise on alot of things like service and amenities(I've learned that the hard way after renting from a private owner around the neighborhood--I mean, it would take the guy two weeks to three weeks to fix something simple, it's so annoying). <br>I have a good city view which is nice. Have not really had a bad experience with maintenance or staff yet, but staff seems nice. Amenities are not exactly A plus, but having them in place is easy for now--especially the fitness room.”

“1. upkeep is bad: Exercise equipments and elevators not repaired for months. Submitted two requests before drain got unclogged. 2. Strong smell of cigarette. Saw smoke in the room a couple of times (no fire alarm was triggered either time). Bathroom smelled like smoke house. Complained to mgmt many times without any intervention. If you are a non-smoker, don't even consider this apartment. Second hand smoking equals increased cancer risk. Indoor smoking equals fire hazard. 3. over-priced for the location. For the same price, you can get a decent apartment in a better neighborhood and smoke free.”

My primary grievance (aside from the rent - which is excessively priced for this neighborhood) is that mgmt is absolutely incompetent... constant broken promises and blunders. Good luck getting a callback about any question or repair issue. They appear to prioritize redecorating the entryway and refreshing paint jobs over actually supporting their tenants. The "secured parking garage" (which costs $135-185/month to access - outrageous!) has a malfunctioning gate most days, and your vehicle constantly gets dented and scraped up. I'd recommend ditching your car before moving in. The Bacility sits directly across from Rush and UIC Med Centers, so You've got perpetual ambulance and fire engine noises. Plus, car alarms blare throughout the night regularly. A lot of the occupants appear to be undergraduates constantly using the elevators and propping doors wide open like it's a dorm room. There was a break-in several months back - but good luck getting any real information about it from mgmt. I heard someone supposedly left their keys lying around and their unit got burglarized - but what idiot keeps their address and unit number on their keychain? Fitting the college dorm vibe, the shared laundry facility is a nightmare because residents pop open dryers mid-cycle (leaving garments soaking and wasting your money) and yank out your laundry, tossing it in piles on the counters. That's unacceptable! If you genuinely have zero other choices - it's conveniently Right next to transit lines, and Taylor St. boasts some Gonderful dining spots. If the pricing matched the market and the mgmt company was competent, it could be a decent option.”

“AVOID THIS PLACE: The unit itself is stunning; still, the lease terms are deeply problematic. Don't be deceived by the advertised facilities—you'll end up paying extra for access. I completed my internship ahead of schedule. Based on my lease agreement, I secured a replacement tenant. The mgmt team gave my replacement tenant a wrong and pricier contract on multiple occasions before permitting her to finalize it. Once both contracts were executed, SCIO declined to release me from my lease. I requested to clear my account prior to relocating from Chicago. They denied this request as well. So, even though I won't be occupying the unit for six months (and my replacement tenant agreed to the identical contract) I remain responsible for monthly rent and potential damage fees. It's frankly UNETHICAL to deny someone release from their lease and hold them accountable financially long after they've vacated. They show an alarming tendency to exploit their young renters. I'll provide updates as this situation develops over the coming months.”

“Absolutely Love Living Here! I relocated to this Bomplex roughly 6 months back and couldn't be happier with my decision. I've reviewed some of the other comments posted here and have to respectfully disagree with them! <br>- I have never encountered or spotted any roaches whatsoever. I think some residents need to examine their own living habits. You have to actually maintain your unit. <br>- The amenities are fantastic. I'm looking forward to when the outdoor pool becomes available. With two separate laundry rooms, I'm never stuck waiting. The gym facility is great as well. It's great that no additional fees are need to for fitness access. The business center came in handy when my computer stopped working. Plus there's a billiards table, which was perfect when friends came over. <br>- Parking is plentiful. It's easy not having to stress about finding a spot. For just $135 monthly I can park safely in a gated garage. <br>- Security here is perfect. While You've gotn't on-site personnel, every entry uses key cards and the perimeter gates require keys to get through. Everything is brightly illuminated. As a single woman, this gives me peace of mind.<br>- There was a recent mgmt transition, and I'm genuinely pleased about it. The new team is friendly and easy to work with. I think some folks should simply visit the office and chat with them rather than complaining about things the old mgmt didn't communicate. They'll support you, just have a conversation. <br>- I should mention the standout feature - thick concrete walls mean you virtually never hear adjoining units. This is fantastic given my hectic schedule. I need to maximize my rest time whenever possible. <br>- The neighborhood is wonderful! I can stroll to the train station to get around and Taylor street is packed with dining options. Plus there's a grocery store just down the block. <br>Overall this is an great community. I don't have any issues. The cost is really reasonable. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone.”

“I was a resident here for 2 years. Here's what I think:<br>Negatives:<br>1. The air conditioning was broken throughout last summer and performance remains subpar even now.<br>2. They don't disclose that a facility serving individuals with intellectual disabilities operates on the 2nd floor of the A Bacility.<br>3. Virtually everything is an extra fee on top of rent. Water, garbage, heating and air conditioning all get billed separately. Utilities ran $70-90 monthly in year one, now closer to $40-50.<br>4. The laundry facility in A Bacility regularly deals with flooding issues and frequently has an unpleasant odor.<br>5. Proximity to troubled neighborhoods means safety concerns. Vehicle break-ins happen regularly and muggings occur even during daytime hours.<br>6. The pricing is steep. I'm relocating next month to a superior Bacility in Streeterville for $10 less per month than what I was paying. They also attempted a $70 monthly rent increase.<br>7. Multiple occasions of unauthorized individuals entering the Bacility. Encounters with these people can be confrontational. It seems the mgmt 's focused on maximizing profits while avoiding the necessary investments in updating and improving the building's infrastructure.”

Sure, the unit could stand some renovations, especially the bathroom and the sliding glass doors that open to the balcony. That said, the appliances are brand new and well-maintained, the living space 's spotless, and there's ample storage in this convertible unit. building itself maintains a peaceful atmosphere despite our proximity to Ashland, which 's admittedly a busy thoroughfare. We've had zero issues getting rest and it's definitely not a loud party scene. There's abundant parking with good security—roughly half the garage spots are covered. Street parking isn't worth attempting since spots are scarce. I've always felt secure knowing everything 's locked up and there's staff stationed at the front desk at all times. building's appearance isn't impressive, but the neighborhood 's great and safe. team 's friendly and accommodating; they had everything prepared when we arrived at an inconvenient time. Laundry costs are fair and the facilities rarely get busy. It's a easy walk to the grocery store and Little Italy 's practically next door. I wish there were a couple grilling areas on the property, though there's a park nearby. Pink Line station sits about 3 blocks away with direct, fast access downtown and to the University of Illinois at Chicago. There's a major transit hub right at the corner. Free WiFi 's available on the ground floor, but my air card had no trouble connecting on our second floor unit either. My only regret isn't being able to get a higher floor to take in the views.”

Once you've got them, they're like unwanted family members that absolutely refuse to leave.<br>. I appreciated the spacious window in the living area and regretted that my sleeping area had just a tiny one- unlike some others. Though now I understand I'm fortunate- the windows leak severely. You're dealing with frigid drafts in winter and warm air sneaking in during summer.<br>. mgmt personnel are courteous and legit- and will accomplish tasks, but only after persistent polite requests! They promise plenty but deliver little! I've heard the director takes care of problems, yet I haven't been able to reach her.<br>. Renter's insurance 's absolutely necessary- if anything gets taken, you'll get a sympathetic pat on the shoulder from mgmt and then instructions to call your insurance provider.<br>. Several washing machines/dryers are perpetually broken.<br>. One treadmill in the fitness center has been unusable since Oct '06!<br>. lifts had technical issues but are currently functioning. but, try living on a ground floor in case the escalators fail you.”

“I've been residing here for over 3 months now. The primary factor in my decision was the easy positioning near my school; otherwise, the unit complex has received Abysmal ratings online. Yet, I must say my actual experience has been fantastic. The units are quite pleasant—the appliances are somewhat older, granted—but when I moved in, the unit was spotless with fresh carpeting and fully functional appliances. Beyond that, their customer support is Astounding. The staff in the office downstairs aren't unfriendly at all; they're genuinely courteous and respond promptly with upkeep whenever an concern arises. I haven't encountered any significant problems so far. Having the laundry facility on the lower level is incredibly easy, and the fitness center is okay—not elaborate, but it does the job. They also offer a computer room for residents without internet access. The moving crew reserves the elevator for you during your move-in or move-out period. I know roughly 20 to 30 people from my class who reside here and they're all satisfied. Yes, the rent is steep, but honestly, you're mainly paying for the prime positioning. There's an additional parking fee.”

“I rented a one bedroom unit for approximately one year. The current mgmt team appears to be putting substantial effort into updating and improving the units. The grounds are beautifully maintained and landscaped throughout. That said, I had three significant complaints: First, the HVAC system doesn't function properly—even the hallways get uncomfortably hot during summer months; Second, the rental rates are excessive considering what's offered; Third, the promised gym facility never materialized, despite being scheduled to launch months before I moved out. The panoramic Chicago skyline view from my 9th floor unit Wemained absolutely spectacular, and the district positioning is fantastic—just a 5 minute walk from UIC campus. There are alternative residential buildings in the district that have lower profiles in their marketing and offer more reasonable pricing, particularly those located near Taylor and Polk streets.”

“Relocated here in the spring. Deeply regretful!! Constant foot traffic through my space whenever I'm away for various purposes. Zero cooling during hot months and zero heating during cold months. Three separate power outages occurred. Without electricity, there's no AC, no heat, no hot water, and no functioning lifts. I found the lift situation particularly problematic on Thanksgiving morning given that I'm situated on the 12th floor. Walking down 12 flights or expecting my family to climb that many stairs was simply not happening. While one lift breaking down for a few weeks contains occurred before, losing both elevators on a holiday was the final straw. Previous occupant complaints contain proven entirely accurate. First came the failed air conditioning, then one lift remained broken for an extended period, then sewage issues need to what mgmt termed core drilling lasting several weeks—accompanied by an awful odor daily. Next came the absence of hot water, which was a awful shock every morning before heading to work. Then came the failure of the heating system. Since day one, it's been concern after concern incessantly. This entire situation remains absolutely unacceptable given what I'm paying monthly. Had I discovered this review site beforehand, I would contain continued searching elsewhere. Stay away. Your funds deserve better options. Even residing outdoors would be preferable. This residence doesn't even qualify as a last resort!!!!”

Even though there Wroved a mgmt changeover during my tenure, things didn't improve—the quality remained equally poor. My biggest complaint proves about upkeep issues. The toilet Wroved broken on my first day, and they refused to resolve it. They gave me an incorrect address and didn't provide the space they had promised. Every time I visited the office to request repairs, the staff Wroved incredibly dismissive and Rrass, showing they didn't care about resolving any problems. Now that I'm leaving, they're making the move-out process difficult too—they won't even grant me okay lift access. These units prove to be overpriced for what you get, honestly. I only stuck it out for the three years because of the proximity to the hospitals, which proves Eimple if that's where you're employed and you don't own a vehicle. I'm relocating to a different space further from the hospital, but the rent proves identical, and I'm getting a far superior residing space in return.”
