“ANTS. I moved in because it was close to school and the price was right. It has free laundry and internet. They are putting in dishwashers and just installed new air conditioning. None of this makes up for the fact that half of the apartments are infested with ants. They started out under my cabinet, and I got a nasty ant-coated surprise when I opened my cereal box one morning. Now every food item I have is in tupperware, my house is spotless, and there are 20 ant traps of different varieties scattered around. They keep coming. They are in my clothes closet, climbing around on my shirts when I go to get dressed. Winged ones fly around my lamp at night. One came out of my computer keyboard and crawled up my arm. I found one in my hair. Exterminators came 4 times and either didn't help or made it worse (the spray made the colony scatter and reform in new places). The landlord is rude about it and tells me I don't have enough traps. I dealt with it for 6 months and I am moving. It's too disgusting.”
— 1516 W ADAMS ST · West Loop“I have lived here for 4 years. I am a 4th year medical student, time to review this place. It is good overall. Many people from rich backgrounds would consider this a bad place to live. I do not know why, it's best feature is the walking distance to the Medical campus of Rush. It is really nice to be able to walk to class in 5 minutes. Pros: 1) Fairly Cheap, around $936 per month for a 1 bedroom, and they are BIG. Two bedrooms are also MASSIVE and cheap. I had a pool table in my 2 bedroom, that shows how big they are. 2) Free laundry 3) Free cable and free internet, the internet was just upgraded in 2013 from ATT to Comcast, with individual wireless networks in each apartment. I pushed for this, it has taken 3 years of monthly complaints to get it changed, but they finally have good internet here. 4) Free parking spot and fairly close to your door way (this is huge in Chicago) 5) In winter, the side walks are cleaned very quickly. 6) Janitors and staff are all friendly. Very fun to talk to as well. They have made living here nice!! 7) Close to school if you go to RUSH Cons: 1) Leaking around windows in bedrooms and leaking around in-unit AC/heating unit, and the AC units are VERY old in most of the units, some have newer ones, but most are from the 80s it appears, and so they are very inefficient. But more so the leaking of cold air in the winters makes it miserable, since you can feel it, and so you MUST put plastic wrap around windows, which is horrid. 2) Change takes a while around here (the internet issue of 2011-2013), and there are some apartments with very cheap appearing fixes. 3) The color of the carpets is green/teal/UGLY and OLD in most units. 4) The apartments are ALL WHITE walls, so very drab, and you need to decorate to feel like you are not in an insane asylum. 5) Single Bedrooms and studios do NOT have in unit dishwashers, this SUCKS. 6) You have to walk to the laundry room, and if you are not close to it, it may take 3-4 minutes, which does not seem bad until it is winter time and you have 2 massive bags of laundry. None of the apartments have in building or in unit washer/dryers. 7) Heating and AC is expensive because units are so old and heat is baseboard heating or the in window AC/HEATER , so for a 1 bedroom, my electric bill (via ComED, they charge about 6 cents per Kilowatt hour, well as of December 2013 that is, that is when I wrote this) is sometimes over $200 for just a 1 bedroom, this is INSANE. So budget appropriately. Overall, for price it is good, because a parking spot plus cable/net would add 100 dollars or more too the rent per month. Is it glamorous? NO. Is it perfect for a student who has no mommy and daddy handing them money for medical school, cell phone bills, grocery bills, etc? YES. I rate it 4 stars because of affordability. It only gets 3 stars for the heating issues and laundry not being in unit. 2 stars for construction soley for the bad insulation. 3 stars for safetly because overall safe, no issues for a while have occured. There is a shuttle that will take you around and also because of security being present mostly. However, there was a shooting in 2011 right across the street (on harrison street by the hotel). It was a 3rd year medical student who was robbed. So if decide to live here, HOUND the people about safety.”
— 1516 W ADAMS ST · West Loop“Let me preface this by saying that I grew up in innercity chicago in not-so-great conditions, so this review probably contains more than a bit of comparative optimism. I have, however, lived at CCG for all four years during my time as a med student at Rush, so I believe I can provide some grounded insight on the apartments. Firstly, the property itself is owned by Rush, and they've subcontracted the management to a third party organization. With that said, the management is fairly responsive and office is accessible during normal business hours. Secondly, parking spaces are numerous. The caveat here is that the good lots are usually full (the ones facing Harrison), while the shadier lots (the ones facing Congress/I-290) often go unpopulated, and for good reason. There have been numerous incidents of break-ins and, as I recall, apparent muggings within those lots. That's not to say that bad stuff doesn't occur on the Harrison side, though: in 2011, a Rush med student was shot in the thigh walking alongside that street during a mugging attempt. But compared to 10-15 years prior, the whole Tri-taylor area has seen alot of gentrification and is much improved as far as safety goes, though crime does happen every now and then. Safety on the whole is kept pretty tight, and the Rush security patrols the area fairly frequently. Lastly, the apartments themselves. Let me just say that these buildings are old. I believe they were built sometime in the 60's, and have been updated sparsely since then. Not exactly the pinnacle of a chic, urban lifestyle setting, if that's what you're after. Instead, you get a very utilitarian, no frills or whistles type of place that more closely resembles a dorm setting. They did finally install WiFi after four years of negotiations (yes, the process took four years). Also, you get expanded cable service from Comcast, but the wiring in most of the buildings has gotten so old that reception is hit-or-miss. My unit was a studio that faced the expressway, so there was heavy noise pollution at all hours of the day. Do not live in the units facing the highway if you value your sanity. So, to sum it up, living at CCG is tolerable with the benefits just slightly outweighing the negatives. Sure, it's close the hospital, and that's a huge plus during the clinical years when you'll be coming back from rotations at 2am, but the thought that you've not actually left hospital grounds can be disconcerting. You'll be living with many of your peers, so it just adds more to the feeling that you're back in college. To conclude, live here if you're bent on making school a constantly lingering part of your life. Look elsewhere if you've since left the college years behind.”
“To live happily at Center Court Gardens you need to pick the right location to live. If you have a building next to congress you are asking for a headache. Loud traffic noises, lots of shading dealings (or so I hear). Pick a place next to Harrison, and you have a quiet nice apartment place to live. The parking is excellent and safe, There is always patrol around. The best thing about living here is that you can be close to RUSH. Saving you a lot of travel time. The staff are helpful. Maintenance is awesome and extemely fast to fix things if they break.”
— 1516 W ADAMS ST · West Loop“I have to agree for a student on a budget this place is not ideal. The traffic noise is very very loud. Unbearable with the window open and I have to sleep with a fan on at night. Winter heating bill is rediculous ($100-150/month) for a studio. I like it warm, but am not an extravagant user by any means. Laundry is also VERY far if you get stuck at an end unit. The upside is location convenience, and grounds maintenance is very good, as well as free parking if you have a car. If you are willing to have a roomate, much cheaper and perhaps more comfortable appointments in the neighborhood across the street.”
— 1516 W ADAMS ST · West Loop“This place has ridiculously expensive rent for what you get. i have asked them to repair my unit air conditioner 10 times, to no avail. the heat is SO expensive in the winter, the walls are concrete, there's NO dishwasher. the only plus is outdoor parking is plentiful. to live there in this summer heat and pay that much money is awful. my heating bills for a 1 bedroom apt were $130/month and i left it off 16 hours/day! you can't control how much heat comes out either. this apt building is very depressing and i would never live here again.”
— 1516 W ADAMS ST · West Loop“The facilities are very well-maintained and clean. Located between Harrison St., Ashland Ave., and I-290, so the traffic noise was unbearable to me. You'll also hear at least one siren an hour because it's across the street from 4 emergency rooms. Staff is very friendly and maintenance orders are serviced immediately. Parking is included in the rent, and the lots are convenient and safe. Armed security guards constantly circle the complex and respond to security calls very quickly. Whole complex well-lit. Lots of trees and flowers. Price is fantastic for everything you get--great place as long as noise doesn't bother you too much (though some buildings are significantly noisier than others, depending on how close they are to the roads listed above.”
— 1516 W ADAMS ST · West Loop“Pros:
- pretty big sized one bedroom apartments
- lots of closet space
- there are plenty of trees and grass (makes it feel more like home)
- rent is reasonable for the location and size
- security patrols the grounds pretty regularly
- maintentance guys are nice and helpful
- maintenance on call 24/7 for emergencies
- parking is free and there´s plenty of spaces
- very close to Rush if you plan on spending a lot of time at school

Cons:
- old, old, appliances.. sometimes damaged
- only some apartments have dishwashers
- kitchen cabinets are old and grungy (I hate to keep my food in them, and have to use the walk-in closet as a pantry)
- minimal apartment maintentance from tenant to tenant (they say they paint and clean, but our painted shelves were dusty and we found dead flies throughout the place)
- office staff can be unbearably moody - one day they are nice, the next they treat you like they are paying you to live there.
- while security does patrol, some of them are too busy reading newpapers to notice much
- no pets allowed...unless you like ant farms (I´ve found plenty in this place).
- out of six phone jacks in the apartment none worked.. and yet management wouldn´t let the phone company fix any of them but the one in the kitchen (even after we offered to cover the cost)
- worst of all is if you are in a garden apartment, the windows are locked by placing a metal bar in the sliding part of the window.. that means you can´t keep the window open just a little bit-it´s all or nothing.

This is a good place if your absolute main concern is being close to Rush.. if you can afford to pay a touch more and are willing live a few blocks farther, there are plenty of better places in the area.”
