“My husband and I moved into the largest Penthouse at Avenir in May of 2021 and our entire experience with this building has been a nightmare. It doesn't help that since we moved in the building has been through 4+ building managers who have all been worse than the previous. Avenir will tell you their amenities are incredible, best-in-class. don't fall for this scam. The front door staff is barely able to be present at the front door at all times and offer absolutely no service. There was one older black woman who everyone in the building loved who worked the front door and she was mysteriously fired. And don't be fooled by the "pool" and "cabanas". The buildings across the street in all directions have pools that are not only double in size, but also are heated. The pool at Avenir is small, almost always grimy, and cold. Not to mention There's absolutely no fun to be had at the pool because they are constantly micromanaging who is at the pool and what’s being done. They will tell you about the speakers and party areas at the pool - none of which you can actually use. Back to living in the Penthouse though. For the first 12 months of our 15 month lease this offered absolutely no additional “perks”. In fact, we have to have monthly pest control because the bug situation on our balconies is out of hand. also, the blinds are battery powered – not even plugged in – so they often die. And when they do, each blind is charged one at a time. You've got 17 blinds in our unit that take about 4-5 hours to charge. There have been so many plumbing issues as well. At times there have been emails asking the building not to use their dishwashers or kitchen sinks for extended periods of time. Party rooms? Forget about it. They are impossible to reserve and when you do reserve them there’s a non-refundable deposit needed on-top of a huge hourly rate. The worst part is that when we toured the building before signing our lease we were sold on a luxury building with high-end amenities. Instead we got a building That's run by the most incompetent managers I’ve ever worked with and amenities that belong in a suburban middle school. And nobody offers to help ever. If you have a problem here it's your problem. There's no make good on anything. You've got literally thousands of other options for a place to live in Chicago. You’d be better off in a smaller unit or older building than wasting your money on this place.”
