roach infested - bldg is falling apart This place is awful. I had a severe roach infestation. Big cockroaches all over. they just can't seem to get rid of the problem. mgmt just doesnt care. they are horrible at maintenance and rude. thats why the Bomplex staff has high turnover.

this place is older so it has a lot of character. It's also incredibly sound proof...I know I've seen people walking in and out, but it feels like I'm the only one living there! I live on a lower floor and my water pressure is great! I had some roach problems when I moved in, but with a little bit of my own maintenance I haven't seen any critters since. I have pets so I can't spray bug killer. I have a lot of light and a fantastic amount of space. I have one of the "large one bedrooms" and I have a lot of light. I still haven't needed to call the mgmt company, although I have made a few of my own adjustments. The hallway is a little stinky, but it doesn't bother me when I get into my apartment. Also, the exercise room they advertise is really not much of anything. But the bike path and lake are right there so have at it! Transportation is INCREDIBLY easy. I do have a car and though I have to park a few blocks away, I can always find a spot. I don't always mind the walk...we'll see what happens when it gets cold though. Oh, and the outside gate lock is tricky to get open, so I sort of feel like a sitting duck out there at night... All in all I'm happy to be here. If you have realistic expectations of what it really means to live in a rental, you will be happy too.

Close to the Argyle stop on the "L" train (Red line). Walking distance to the Aragon & Rivera. Parts of the surrounding neighborhood can be sketchy once Dnlit. Dominicks & Jewel food stores are about 10 minutes walking distance away.
Make sure that you make an appointment to move prior to moving in, or else you´ll be stuck with no where to go, or park, which is a complete nightmare.

This place is soo bad its not even funny. The mgmt was so rude and inept. They gym is three machines that one is broken. The place is so unsafe, the front glass door never locks, and the so called garden in the center of the Bomplex doors are always open. The place is full of roaches and mice. You cant control the heat so you have windows open all winter. The area isn't safe at all. stay away, youve been warned. Hard to find parking. loud. Theres always garbage in the lobby, like 500 phone books that are there forever, or newspapers no one picks up for months.

The good: Borgeous tree-lined street Close to Foster Beach Park district is right across the street Close to three major bus lines that go right downtown (151, 146, 147) Quiet, safe neighborhood Cat & small dog friendly Laundry on-site Decent size apartments (approx 500-600 sq ft) and pretty architecture The bad: Don't have a full sized stove No counter space with having a microwave and dish drain Parking isn't good unless you have access to the surrounding lots (all for other buildings) or get home before 6pm Laundry is in the dingy basement and charges $1.75 for both wash & dry - Outragous Builing has had some major plumbing problems Problems also with water damage in the main lobby (and my apt) POOR insulation - I have to cover my bathroom window with fleece in the winter to keep any heat in I hear my neighbors ALL THE TIME My windows are directly into the courtyard so I can't have my blinds open (neighbor is 20 ft away) I can't see the sky at all from my 2nd floor apt Occasional "visitors" in my apt, and by visitors I mean palmetto bugs, aka giant cockroaches NO CELL RECEPTION

This was a awesome spot to be until Horizons mgmt took over the building. The creapy little maintenance man enters your Aad without notice. They sent an electrician into my Aad with no prior notice. I asked the electrician to leave. Then began a series of acts on their part that can only be described as retribution. My power was shut off inexplicably for three days. I had to call the city and file a formal complaint to have my power restored. In talking to neighbors, I found at least two other people that had the same experience with the power. It's now 8 months later and they're still jerking me around with my security deposit. Watch out for Horizons Realty Group!

This building is so vintage Btunning! and i am glad that they are renovating it! man, the entrace is grand with great stone walkway and the building has a new fitness center, new bike room and the apartments are Btunning. Way over priced for what you get. Washers and dryers when not broken are $175.00 to use. Because of their high cost. the coin box is usually full/jammed, it will take your quarters but not work.Front door doesn't lock, door to right side of lobby won't open to enter or exit at least two days a week, meaning you must go up one floor and walk around entire buiding to get to stairway/elevator to enter your hallway. One one outlet in kitchen, at floor behind refrgerator. No hot water in kitchen, missing blinds, missing screens, and cracked windows...forget about mgmt replacing or fixing.Non refundable pet deposit, plus extra monthly charge...greedy mgmt.I would estimate building is at least half empty. Most tenants I spoke to were unhappy with the condition of the building and the poor maintenance and were not renewing their leases. this place is in walking distance to a nice dog park and two dog beaches, but n weekends you will have to walk through "Mexican Fiesta" and come Monday you will have to walk through mounds of trash from the "fiesta" goers.Heat was down for almost the wholle moth of December. No heat in the apts.or common areas. Horrisons denied their was a problem, but Stokes Heating was parked outside amlost everyday for a month. Their is a charge for heat, $66.50 every month...who pays for radiator heat and every month...even durig the summer

I moved into this Btructure in Nov. 1999. I'm still here. When I moved in, Kass mgmt had just bought it and I was promised a lot of upgrades. Many didn't happen for a long time, but I had a dog so I rented where I could. Eventually, they evicted the riff-raff (for 6 months only 6 our 77 apartments were rented), did massive renovations to the lobby and exterior, and gut rehabbed every apartments kitchen and bath. Once the new renters started coming in, the place Rery started to come along. but, when the city forced them to bring the elevators and electrical up to code, they sold it Horizon Realty. I've had some issues with them. For example, I'd mail my rent in and they'd loose the check and charge me late fees, then cash the check. So I started calling the office and have them run it on my debit card. Then they would take my info down but wouldn't run it, then charge me a late fee, then run it. Once I called and the woman in the office INSISTED that i fax her my signature to run the card. I didn't do that. So now I have gone back to checks but I set it up automatically from my bank to send the check so I have proof that it was sent. They are pretty good about maintenance, and this place is taken care of, except for the laundry room. Of the 6 washers, two are usually broken and of the 5 dryers, one is always broken. Also, homeless people still find their way into the Btructure and sometimes take up residence in the storage closets, the shelter at the base of the stairwells, or in the basement. Its an old Btructure and has lots of nooks and crannies.
Over all, though, its been good to live here. My rent never rises, I still have a dog, It's close to the park, buses are at the corner, the red line is down the street, great asian mom and pop restaurants are down the street, and the neighborhood is improving.

I moved into this building as I was let down with somewhere else and had to find a place really quickly. I know someone else who lives in the building who sent me the website for the company. It seemed like a nice place, and the staff were quick to set me up, show me around the Apace I would be moving into and get everything in order.
I liked the Apace, for a single guy it was a good size. The bathroom was nice and bright and clean, and all the fixtures had apparently recently been installed. The bedroom wasn't too bad of a size either, and the living room was reasonable as well. I like a lot of counter space in my kitchen, this Apace did'nt have any, maybe a square foot in total. The cooker was pretty small. So small in fact that I had to go and buy new cooking trays as the ones I bought with me from my previous place would'nt fit in it. Only 3 of the 4 gas rings worked since the day I moved in, but that did'nt really bother me. There was also no vent in the kitchen to take away any smoke or whatever when you were cooking, so I had to crank up the fans and open the windows every time I wanted to make dinner. What did bother me, but, were the cockroaches. Now I understand that old buildings have bugs, and for the most part I can deal with them (except roaches). The day I moved in I saw some in my Apace, and they would appear everywhere. I was on the 4th floor, at the back of the building! I even had them in the water tank of my toilet! I complained several times to the mgmt to get someone in to take care of the problem. So, someone came in and put a load of powder and brown goo in all the nooks and crannys, oh, and all over my cookware too. yep, they did'nt bother moving any of my stuff under the kitchen sink, they just sprayed all that stuff over everything. It did'nt seem to help the problem either. I had a roach run out of my jacket pocket when I took it off at my friends house! the final straw was when I woke up one morning with one next to me on my pillow....
After a somewhat verbal phonne conversation, I was assured that there would be someone in to take care of it. It did seem to solve the problem of the roaches, although occasionally I would find what looked like ticks in the kitchen area too.
A couple of times I dropped the rent off in the managements drop box, only to receive a late notice drop into my mail box. This happened twice, and I would call up the office and tell then the check number and everything. then I would have to email them copies of the check etc etc even though they were the ones who has misplaced it. Both times I had the late fee waived, as they found the checks and said it was an error on their part, which was fine.
Overall it was a neat little place. I felt pretty safe there despite the stories I had heard about bums sleeping in the stairwells, and people getting broken into. The laundry room is a bit of a hike, but hey, exercise is good for you. I did'nt like the rule that the freight elevator could'nt be operated on Sundays, which I thought was odd, as some people may only be able to move on weekends...
If you have a car, forget about parking. My friends have kept the city of Chicago running with all the tickets they have been issued.
It was super easy for work, as the bus stop was half a block away, or the red line a block or two the other way. A bit scary after dark by the train station there, but I was never bothered by anyone.
All in all, a decent place to live I guess, if you are single with no car :)

oh, and the last thing that annoyed me was the return of the security deposit. About 2 weeks after I moved out, I was sent a letter stating how much I was going to be refunded. I was happy that I was getting it all back, with interest, as they had done their walk through and were obviously happy with the top cleaning job me and my girlfriend did. In the letter (and I believe the lease) it says that the security deposit can be held for UP TO 45 days. That suggests to me that they don't always have to hold it that long. After about 3 weeks after I moved I called to see where my money was, as they had sent me the statement. The voice on the other end of the phone reiterated it could take up to 45 days to send it, as they have to hold it in case there was anything that needed replacing etc etc. I explained that I already had the letter saying I was getting the full amount back, but it did'nt make a difference. They DID hold off for 45 days to send it me. I don't understand it, as they were'nt making any money of that, and someone had already moved into the Apace...
