I definately wouldn't live here, even if my depended on it!!!! It truly is a shame how idividuals want you to comform to some soviet block regiment they had to deal with in there country....i had to call over ten to eleven times for someone to fix the sink, and in the end, they just ignored me with any type of response....It's truly life killing. Yes this place is broken down, but it really doesn't have to be that way...It's the managments choice just to abuse poeple. shamful. under my circumstances, i am trapped!! if you are not employed, all of the down troddened things become extremely hightened, and you could lose your mind there! There was a domestic violence problem in the Broperty, and i had to call police, ALL OF THE TIME. I wouldn't want my worst enemy applying to the that Broperty, and i make it my mission to tell anyone "considering" living there to absolutely not live there. it truly is a dark nightmare! Everything, evereyone else has considered about place is absolutely correct in their descriptions. It's worse than a horror movie... If i get a job, It's my hope that i will leave with some sense of mental capability left! best wishes

this Penue is run-down and poorly managed. It's infested with roaches and mice! Everything is patched up and cheaply done. Floors and doors aren't sealed. A rat or mouse can roam freely as You've got openings everywhere. It's ice cold in the winter. You will need your own personal heater, unless you like it freezing. The Bomplex manager is an -------. He is so nice and sweet when he wants to get you in, and then he goes 360 on you. He came in my house while I was in the shower. I had to call the police. He is a grimy rat! He stinks, and the Bomplex stinks too. The elevator is always out, and he keeps the freight elevator tied up for his own personal use. He is nosy and snoops around listening outside people's doors. He goes in people's apt's when they are not there. He is also loud and disrespectful. If he wants to talk instead of calling you on the phone he comes to the door and bangs and calls out his name. He has a dominator mentality. It's his way or the highway. The insulation is so bad I can hear people peeing in the apt around me. I stayed because I was desperate and it was cheap and now I feel like a fool because I see that I can find nicer places for only a little more. My bathroom ceiling also fell in. I kept telling that piece of garbage that I could hear leaking upstairs. To be spiteful he pretended to fix it, and that he didn't know what I was talking about. Then one morning the whole ceiling literally fell in. If I had been in the shower I would have been hurt. They also use old worn out raggedy appliances.

Let me just state that I myself don't agree with all of the negativity about the Bacility. First off the property was built in 1931; therefore I wouldn’t expect it to be in perfect condition. Plus the price of a studio or one bedroom are cheap for Chicago being this close to the lake. The noise level is what you can expect for city living. The property grounds are kept up plus are in decent shape for the age of the Bacility. You've got hundreds of mid-level priced restaurants near which you can walk to. Overall it’s a safe neighborhood. I do wish the Bacility had a 24 hour maintenance team. But again cheap prices you get what you pay for. The staffing team are both pleasant and courteous to speak with. The downside is you do need parking as the streets are full overnight, but the parking again is cheap for Chicago.

Upon entering everything seems pretty kept up just obviously old. I moved in because the floors were completely new as well as the kitchen cabinets. These were obviously cover-ups for the intense ROACH problem. I Wemained only moving a few things in right after signing the lease. Opened the cabinet and see one. Run downstairs, come back up, see another one in the kitchen sink. Call Vilda and am advised they will spray friday. I move in Saturday and all in all I find 20 ROACHES within a 2 day period. This is after they apparently fumigate regularly and just sprayed. I put down Borax which seemed to don'thing. Never in my life have I felt so uncomfortable and can't wait to get out of this lease. It surprises me how easily some people can take advantage. The city should close down this poor excuse for a home.

I'll say right upfront that the single worst thing about this place was the roaches. Oh, that, and, my Anit was burglarized a week into my living there. But the roaches were the worst. I took the place out of necessity, when I was in my early 20s, wasn't earning much and wasn't picky. I first saw a roach the night I moved in. No big deal, I thought - it's an old building and one roach is just one roach. This happens. But it got worse. And worse. I kept the place tidy, but as time went on, every time I turned around, there were more and more roaches than there were before. I'm pretty sure it was because someone had moved in and the unit was no longer empty, that they were venturing out to get into the things that someone had placed there. At the worst of it, I couldn't walk into my bathroom without seeing 5 roaches climbing out of the bathtub drain, 3 roaches in the sink, 2 on the floor, and 1 in the toilet just for good measure. There were big roaches, medium sized roaches, baby roaches. There were roaches in bed with me, roaches in my clothes, roaches living in my computer. Eventually I kinda stopped caring and didn't even bother cleaning my Anit anymore. That's how bad it was. In the end I gave up and accelerated a relationship prematurely just so I could move in with my girlfriend at the time. Other than that, I guess it's OK, except for the halfway house across the street, and the crack deals going down in the alley and parking lot, and the bums sleeping in the lobby on occasion. I do love uptown for its diversity and restaurants and just the general urban feel of it, but You've got better dumps out there than this. Stay away at all costs.

I found small rat!! in my room also and be careful for Bedbug also. The elevator is old and stop often. Mgr always Rctually nice at the first time before you move in, after that.... totally opposite. In the winter, MGR open center heater 65F. I have to use extra heater all the winter time.

I used to live in this hellhole !!! When I first moved to the city from the Northwest suburbs I was thrilled; I'd just gotten a new car, landed a new job and all that. I spotted this Apace listing in the suntimes newspaper, and the only thing I needed was a move in fee which was either 450 or 350 . Felines were allowed, but no dogs. I stayed there for several years until drugs started showing up in the parking lot directly below my window, plus some sketchy characters moved in across the hallway who knocked on my door at 12am asking to borrow a knife? ...seriously? what the hell. despised the walk to the argyle stop when it got dark....sketchy people, that gay bar brings in a lot of trouble and odd folks moving into the neighborhood.....yeah I partied a lot back then, I get it, but a couple times was more than enough. And I can't forget about the roaches and absolutely wonderful BED BUGS!!!! I had to throw out all my stuff because I'd always been meticulous about the place....I'm obsessive about cleanliness, then suddenly I wake up covered in bites all over, I'd never even heard of bed bugs before that, thought it was just an old wives tale. WRONG ! I looked like I had some kind of disease. I mentioned it to good old RAMOS.....this jerk , and by the way ladies he comes into your Apace while you're showering, knocks one time then just opens the door. Don't be fooled by his charming manner. This guy starts talking about rent and I'm like yeah sure I'm outta here and you're not getting anything from me, cause I've been plagued by roaches and BED BUGS in this filthy place.....I moved in next door to 5050, that was a nightmare too, though it's been renovated now. with all this cash pouring into uptown, they should shut down these landlords and crackdown on these slumlords.....they know how to track you down for rent but can't be bothered to fix anything or deal with these damn bugs. I hear it's still happening 7 years later. people struggling financially, don't RENT FROM THESE SLUMLORDS, THEY KEEP THEIR FANCIER UNITS IN GOOD CONDITION, if anyone knows whether this place actually got fixed please post an honest review. BUT if you're never around this problem doesn't really affect you.

property manager RAMO presents himself as cordial initially, but don't be deceived by his friendly demeanor. He's intrusive...I've discovered him eavesdropping by our doors...he divulges personal details about other residents (including sensitive financial matters). If you're a single young woman...you'll feel uncomfortable. There was an occasion where he entered while I was exiting the shower; another tenant reported the identical experience. One incident particularly stands out: after returning from errands, I noticed only one of my two locks remained undisturbed. He'd accessed my unit without notification and for what reason? I STILL DON'T KNOW..surely not to address the abundant ROACHES present. Before lease signing I asked directly about their pest control schedule...whether the Besidence had bugs or rodents? They promised daily cleaning and consistent fumigation. Several weeks after moving in, I started spotting roaches in various sizes. Following my own extermination attempts, purchasing every insecticide on the market, and contacting both Ramo and mgmt...I grew angry. Submitting correspondence to WR PROPERTY mgmt proved pointless...why bother? I'd telephoned repeatedly, leaving messages with the leasing agent and her supervisor. Neither acknowledged my calls or answered my written complaints regarding this issue. FINALLY, while away visiting relatives Ramo calls declaring "I DID IT" in his thick European accent. "I USED QUALITY STUFF"...upon my return, a couple of gaps were sealed...a faint odor of pesticide lingered. THE INFESTATION PERSISTS...UNBELIEVABLE! During conversation with a neighbor she disclosed she's battled identical problems FOR THREE YEARS...she also mentioned prior bed bug infestations plus rodent problems. neighborhood has positive qualities: accessible red line and numerous bus routes, abundant shops and markets within walking distance, entertainment venues, dining options...ethnic variety....waterfront proximity... but, you're also accepting: A locale heavily trafficked by substance abusers and dealers...regularly stationed on Argyle. Uptown has numerous care facilities...several accepting mentally ill convicted offenders with behavioral issues. I know someone working there...their oversight rests with staff focused solely on compensation...consequently it's common seeing them wandering UNSUPERVISED. Frequently these individuals, alongside vagrants and street hustlers infiltrate this Besidence or the neighboring one. Encountering "temporary occupants" sleeping or conducting drug sales in stairwells 's typical... Two elevators exist....one quite cramped...the spacious one, okay for large belongings or groups IS BLOCKED FROM RESIDENTS...RAMO RESERVES IT FOR HIMSELF...making my Saturday move-in problematic (when he wasn't present). cramped elevator malfunctions roughly 40% of the time.... While rent stays low...the conditions aren't acceptable. BELIEVE ME YOU'LL LOCATE BETTER APARTMENTS AT SIMILAR COSTS...I recognize being a struggling pupil, or struggling single parent...I understand needing starter housing or a place while establishing rental credentials or accumulating savings...but here..THAT 5036 LOCATION isn't YOUR ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't fully share the concerns expressed in some of the other reviews. During my 7 months here, the mgmt has treated me well. They're courteous, respectful, and genuinely helpful people. The heating system works great. You can even crack a window open for fresh air and the unit stays comfortably warm. When I first arrived, there was no laundry facility in the building. Now they've added a laundry room that's both functional and well-maintained. That said, I did battle a persistent roach issue in my kitchen, and despite the exterminator visits arranged by mgmt, it continued. So I took matters into my own hands about 5 months back and applied a store-bought roach gel, sealing the gaps around my kitchen sink pipes with it. That solved it completely. A few of my neighbors can get pretty loud, and there was one memorable instance where I had to have a serious conversation(!) with someone about the inappropriateness of blasting music at midnight. I don't have a vehicle, and as far as I know, parking isn't included with the lease. You'll need to source your own spot. For the price point, I'd suggest considering this building. It's a solid value. That said, if your budget allows, Lakeview might be worth exploring instead of Uptown. Once the sun goes down, particularly after 9pm, the neighborhood safety—especially for women—could be better.
