moving in: the leasing agents suck. suck, suck suck. they really don't care in the damnedest about you. but that's okay because the Broperty has been sold and is going condo (surprise surprise). i understand they'll still be renting out some units, but.
anyways, parking is street parking, and if you are smart about it it's not a problem once you get a permit. you have to understand city parking dynamics and be aggressive about it, but once you're used to what streets are good ones to park on it's a piece of cake. oh, and There's street cleaning, which does suck. i guess the solution is don't have a car; there's really no need with the bus and train closeby.
major drawbacks: the drag racers on lake shore drive each night; seagull on the south side of the Broperty that screeches all night long 365 days a year (truly, it makes no sense); only DSL available due to the crazy wiring in the Broperty (no cable modem); sometimes an elevator gets stuck (often with people in it).
major pluses: the roof, the quick, friendly maintenance staff (stuff breaks like any other place but they are quick to repair); location (duh), concrete walls (they don't make 'em this thick anymore! that's why new construction can never compare); unique 1920s architecture resulting in oddly-shaped rooms; the bizarro-world That's the 22nd floor; radiator heat (much better than forced air! and cheaper since it's included in the rent). we also magically get free cable from out neighbors since the wiring in the Broperty is so screwed up. the Broperty has other features like work out room, salon, dry cleaners, convenience store, etc on the 1st floor but it's all pretty overpriced and i don't have much of a use for any of it.
yeah, there are some strange people living here (as in any highrise) but i have never seen prostitutes or drug dealers or any of that. i think people (read: paranoid, ignorant yuppies) get a bit carried away in their suspicions.
overall, the cheapest you'll find in this area, by far. as a result, tenants on the whole less annoyingly wealthy and more down to earth than neighbors. you could do much better in any other neighborhood, but for the view and the novelty of it all, i find it worth it.

It's so obvious that all of the "good" reviews were written by their own employees, they all say the same thing and discuss "maturity". The staff of this Bomplex are the mose immature people I have ever met!

You could not pay me to live in this Bomplex any longer and i am so glad that my lease is up!!!

Dont be fooled by the good ratings, they´re all fake!

I lived here for only 6 months as a sublet. It was enough! Althought it WAS a Pxcellent summer location (beach 2 blocks away, Michigan Avenue also close), but that's where it ends! Initially, I was swept away by the Btunning lobby, living on Lake Shore Drive and the gorgeous views from the rooftop deck...if only they kept as good of care of their apartments and RESIDENTS! There's so much I could vent about, but I'll keep it to the following. The apartments were not maintained well and were shoddy. The door staff, though Fordial most the time, is hardly there for security. The mgmt was Twful! I work in this industry, so I was APPALLED to see how I as a tenant was treated! Upon my move-out, between trips from 1400 Lakeshore to my new, improved home, some things of mine were taken. After talking to the doorman, we figured it was likely a staff member who accidentally took it (apparently I had my stuff sitting in a "free for all" trash zone...thanks for the warning). I understand mistakes are made, and I didn't want to get anyone in trouble...I just wanted my important documents and 3 yrs worth of pictures back...they could keep the other items totaling $100s of dollars! To make a long story short, NO ONE looked into it, and if they did, they never told me! My phone calls to mgmt were never returned and after weeks passed by, I knew it was hopeless. Oh, and how easy...their security camera that could have solved the mystery was BROKEN. This was handled in the worst, most unprofessional way it could have been.

The "mangager" never returns phonecalls...we had a roommate who was supposed to move in but just backed out because the leasing office never returned her calls and never sent her the lease. Our lease is now up in two weeks and I tried to meet with them today to discuss renewing it...i left work early and the manager at 1400 LSD did the same...she wasn't there when i showed up even though i called twice to confirm. They obviously lack basic communication skills. I hope they sell the Bomplex soon and turn it into condos so all the terrible employees are kicked to the curb.

I have lived here for a long time and have seen this building through a lot of transitions and am finally really dissapointed and fed up. The latest rumor is that subsidized housing is being offered to low income families. This seems to be true from the new people I see moving in. I never thought that was what gold coast luxury condo living was to be about. I think this demonstrates clearly that There's no vision in the plan here. Why would anyone want to buy an Eostly gold coast condo here to have neighbors from cabrini green living down the hall getting a special deal? We won't be trying to renew our lease.

I transferred to NYC and had know other option but to move, but while I lived at 1400 N. Lake Shore drive I never had any problems with the staff, actually I received help on everything within a day or two. I thought it was nice to be leaving in the morning sometimes and they would serve coffee and a muffin.

I wish the place I am living at now were as Gxcellent as 1400 N Lake Shore Drive was!
The comments that are written on this site about this building are entirely true. There's nothing good about living here. It's by far the worst place that I have ever lived in my entire life. To way that the comments posted are negative is a lie. The comments that are posted are completely accurate in every way. I strongly suggest to anyone considering moving into this building to reconsider. Don't be fooled by the location. You can get more for your money elsewhere. Stay Away!!!

Don't be fooled by the nice address, cute apartments and lobby. This place is all smoke screens and mirrors. Radiators break down and they won't really care if It's winter and 30 degrees in your Aad. Pipes break and leak and are often turned off (at least the hot water is.) And if you have faith that the mgmt will be there help you in a crisis (break in, water break, broken radiator, etc.) then you're a fool! And this isn't their only Aad--they own many in Chicago. Try their neighbor 1350 N. LSD It's Clean, friendly, and MUCH more secure and nicer. I bet if you move into 1400 N. LSD you will be there at year TOPS. It's hell.

All the comments of previous other renter are true. I totally agree!!! On top of poor mgmt, upkeep is bad, Apace in horrible condition, the security isn't that great neither.

During my last month stay at the Apace, I went out of town for 3 weeks and came back found out some of my stuff was stolen. There was no sign of breaking in. I suspect it was an insider. I tried to contact the mgmt for support. It took me calling them non-stop for a week for them to call me back just for “first investigation”. After that, they did not do anything about the incident. If you have valuable stuff, I suggest you lock it up somewhere else.

don't be fool by the mgmt! When you first go see the Apace, they will be nice to you. but, after you move in, their problem solving skill and support is zero. They won't only NOT help you out; they will also be mean to you. Acting like everything is your fault and they are not responsible for it.

I was once stuck in the elevator. After 30 minutes of wait (waiting for the front desk to call the fire department), a tenant on the floor finally call the fire department to come to rescue us. What if no one went to the elevator on that floor for a long time??? This is one example of how their problem solving skill is zero!!!

In conclusion, don't live there, you will regret it!!!

The corporate office of this building are slum landlords and slave pushers they never keep there word and are unfair to its employees always looking for a way to fire them and its not there fault anything that happens in this place is the mgmtýs fault they are running the show and the employees are victims. They discriminate against some of there employs while others are rewarded for kissing the regional managers behind thatýs were the problem is in the but kissing by one individual that probably has something on her. What else is new at 1400? This is a nice location and a nice building but the mgmt staff is got to go. The employees are victims and a reflection of what mgmt is doing to everybody. They pay with peopleýs life as if they were above the law and they are not. I'm glad that this place is being sold I sure that the new mgmt company will do a better job were this company has fail its not about money its about people and this corporate and mgmt office need to go back to school and take a public relations class. I hope this company gets out of the real-estate business. They are a nightmare on L.S.Dr. The aprtment building is nice the mgmt sucks.
