They will throw out your things in common areas based on policies that are not in the lease (my laundry was thrown out after 24 when I forgot I had taken it down and I can't replace the items that were thrown out (sentimental things I've had since I was little, a concert shirt from high school, a t-shirt from a now deceased friend, etc.), many of the things in my apartment are falling apart, there is a bug problem, the building is NOT rent controlled so expect your rent to go the second year you live there like it did for me. They will not tell you this when you move in. And if you ask to move to a cheaper unit in the building they will tell you that the price listed on your lease renewal is the lowest amount you can pay. (so you can move, but you will pay more than what a new tenant would pay for that apartment). The oven temps are VERY off. There is no air-conditioning and the fan does nothing to help the summer heat. ALSO the building decides when to turn the heat on and off AND YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE RADIATOR. If you try to, it will make a loud clanking noises throughout the night and prevent you from sleeping. I spent most of the winter with the radiator on and a window open. There is really poor circulation and the bathroom window is bolted shut so the moist air is forced to accumulate in my apartment which means the paint on my walls and ceiling is starting to crack and bubble. My bathroom door does not fully close, nor do ANY of my kitchen cabinets because of the layers of paint. The walls are VERY thin and the doors are even thinner. If someone is smoking with Mary-Jane or there is a party is being held, nothing will be done by the building. (see my google review for the details and photos)

I lived at 422 w. Melrose for a year and would have renewed my lease if I had stayed in Chicago. The building engineers are wonderful, nice men and quick to fix any issues (all of which were very minor for me). The management company is easy to get in touch with and also very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The building is always clean and very well maintained. It is a quiet building and I like that they offer recycling. I highly recommend renting from them.
