Whenever something breaks in the Aad, Denise says you broke it. She accused me of causing the toilet to overflow but it was the plumbing. The downstairs neighbors blasted rap music all night.

We lived here for one year. I was impressed by the informative web site. As we were moving from out of state, we had little opportunity for personal inspection. The space was huge and had lots of potential.

The day we moved in, the Alat wasn't ready. There was no hot water to the master bath. The toilet in the second bathroom didn't flush. The dishwasher didn't work. They couldn't find the keys. And, it was really grimy.

We tried to make the best of everything, so we patiently waited for the workmen to leave and started moving in and cleaning up. I had the entire Alat (2200 sf) painted top to bottom and front to back at my expense. We replaced three light fixtures that kept shorting out at our expense.

The three stooges Juan, Jose and Manuel came to fix the toilet. It needed about five cents worth of silicone caulk to stop a leak from the water pipe to the bowl. It was an industrial type toilet, not a residential model with a tank. Rather than caulk it, they decided to pull it out and replace it. sadly, it did not occur to any of them to TURN OFF THE WATER FIRST. They flooded the front half of the Alat, including my 1800’s antique bed frame. They also neglected to obtain a replacement toilet, so we lived with a big hole in the floor for a couple of days before they brought in a new toilet. Did I mention that the other toilet didn’t flush?

The dishwasher didn’t work when we moved in. One of the maintenance guys showed up and spent the entire day in the kitchen. Off and on two other guys showed up. At the end of the day, we had a new garbage disposal (that didn’t work) and a dishwasher that still didn’t work. After more visits and more floods than we could keep track of, eight months later, the dishwasher didn’t work (they hooked up the drainage hose to a blocked/sealed pipe and the garbage disposal no longer worked.

The dryers in the basement never worked properly. One worked just barely, but you had to run your clothes through at least twice just to get them damp. The other dryer never worked. Imagine my chagrin when I discovered that the washers and dryers (which you had to pay to use) were plugged into outlets that fed off tenant meters. That’s right, folks, we got to pay for the electricity to run the machines, and put quarters in them.

Then, when we moved out at the end of our lease, I not only scrubbed the entire place top to bottom and front to back, I filled in every nail hole, touched up the paint and left a little can of paint for future touch ups. And these guys charged me a $60 cleaning fee. I’d like to know what and when they cleaned.

It’s a beautiful building, but the owners/mgmt is dishonest. John went to drop off the rent one day and Michael Lee came to the door and told him to please come back later because the cops were there. One of our neighbors in another Lee Street owned building told us that she had been asked to make her rent check payable to three different name in six months. I’d live in a tent in the park before going back to a Lee Street property.
