Oh my God, the first reviewer took all the words out of my mouth! I've lived here a while and I tend not to complain much because I knew it was an old building when I moved in and it's relatively cheap for the neighborhood (although that's very steadily changing). And even though it's an old building, it would be nice to have a stove with an oven I'm not afraid to use. I've done Internet searches on the brand and model and it has to be at least 50-60 years old. And I have to defrost the crappy refrigerator once a month or so. Again, I put up with it because it's cheap, spacious and in the heart of one of the prettiest areas of the city. Since the new manager, who can be downright creepy at times, took over, it's been worse than ever. At least the former manager would answer questions and address concerns in a timely fashion. The new guy never gives a straight answer and doesn't seem to think maintaining the common areas of the building (cleaning/maintaining the elevator or laundry facilities or cleaning up the messes people leave in the stairwells) is any of his concern. A few times I've brought things to his attention only to get a what-do-you-expect-me-to-do-about-it look. And he seems to just lurk around doing nothing and smoke at all times, both inside the lobby and outside the door. I have severe smoke allergies and have had more than one attack spurred on by the stench. And don't get me started on the fact that he doesn't keep his apartment closed off from the manager's office so you can hear EVERYTHING going on in his place, including him showering, going to the bathroom and having sex! Absolutely freaky. It's as if he thinks it's a flophouse. Oh, and have I mentioned his predilection for flirting with the women who live there and saying inappropriately sexual things to them? Yeah, he does that too. As for the units, things are always falling apart and the maintenance team are less talented than the Three Stooges when it comes to repairs. I've never had anything repaired that stay repaired, so I don't even bother anymore. And my most recent next-door neighbors are the loudest people ever and I can hear every conversation, fight, party and intimate moment they have. Beware.

This is by far the absolute worst building I have lived in:

The management which consists of the on-site building manager (Fred), Ade Realty (property owners), and maintenance are not professional and have no pride in what they do. Further, they are extremely rude. The building is very dirty, and not kept well at all. There is always a new odor in the lobby. Fred, the on-site manager smokes and stinks up the lobby. There are ALWAYS problems with the water/plumbing. They work on it about twice a week, never being able to solve anything. They don't even have the common courtesy to let the residents know that they will be working on the water pipes, thus sometimes I will run late to wherever I'm going because all of a sudden the water isn't working.
Our building is the one on the street with the unkempt lawn. It is impossible to get things taken care of here because the on-site manager doesn't ever know what is going on, and when I call Ade Realty they are extremely rude to me. The only reason I am still here is because I'm still a student and cannot afford much better, and the neighborhood is great; it's Lincoln Park, very convenient location. The only good thing about the building is that the units are very spacious. But if you move in, expect to get old plumbing fixtures, like a bathroom sink with TWO faucets, one for hot, one for cold, never being able to get warm water. Also, an exterminator comes in once a month, which is annoying, and expect to freeze in the winter-the heating is included, but they never turn it on! Also expect to hear your neighbors.
I am very much looking forward to leaving this building in a few months when I graduate from school.
