“Under no circumstances should you rent an apartment here. There used to be was a gym, the grounds were well-kept, the building overall was in good repair with working elevators, trash chutes and well-lit hallways and building management promptly took care of maintenance requests. Those days are long gone. The new management routinely takes advantage of tenants who are unaware of their rights and illegally charges additional fees to uneducated tenants. On a good day there is one working elevator (out of two) for the 4 story apartment building. Hot water is often off several days out of the month. Repair requests are ignored and in some cases flat out refused including refusing to repair appliances that came with the unit, bathroom fans inoperable creating a buildup of mold, A/C units and locks on unit doors go unrepaired. The laundry facilities rarely have more than one or two working washing machines or dryers, unlit hallways and serious electrical issues within the apartment. In addition, there are serious mold and air quality issues with the units and a massive cockroach infestation that has gone unchecked. This place is the definition of a slum and should be avoided.”

When I found this apartment it changed everything. With the help of a roommate, the price was something I could handle. What´s more, it is right where I need to be without breaking the bank: wedged between Hollywood and SilverLake on the southern edge of Los Feliz. So if you´re like me (young and going out type) and want the artsy chilled nightlife of the AtWater dives, or the SilverLake live music... they´re right around the corner. You want the small theatre scene? It´s just right down Santa Monica Blvd.. You want the hip, but not pretentious hip, well, you´re just blocks away from it. Want the chic scene, then head on over to Hollywood Blvd.

As for the apartment building: there are two elevators and at least one is always broken. The outside is definitely nothing special, and the entryway looks dumpy. There are also protitutes down on the corner of Sunset so you´re not exactly proud pulling in at night, but it´s safe anyway... and there is friendly night-time security. Once you get inside, it´s cute. There is an open coutryard with trees and such. And another boon is presence of a very narrow laundry room with 5 or 6 washers/dryers... I can´t recall exactly how many.

Inside the apartment, they are very large and the two bathrooms make for complete privacy with a roommate. Plenty of storage space. Decent kitchen, but a rather old and cheap stove. There are very narrow balconies, but I have never adequately fended off the pigeons.

In conclusion, if you don´t care about glitz and glam and want function over form, you can be right in the thick of the most vibrant area of the city for a reasonable price.”
