The owner, D B of DB Property Management Group, is a slumlord, and the apartments are heavily infested with roaches. I remember, back in college, a friend fled her apartment after she watched a roach give birth in her living room; I was so disgusted as I declared that witnessing such an event would never ever happen to me. Turn the page forward to this humbling part of my life when I had to live at 744 Beacon, and I, myself, had to view the very same thing in my apartment. I killed the roach, but a few days later, roach babies came spilling out of the bathroom trashcan. The landlord is moves to fix problems with all the urgency of a snail, and she uses migrant labor so that she can exploit them and pay mere pesos on the dollar. The first manager I had there accused her of being selfish and greedy before he quit, moved out, and got a job elsewhere. To the landlord's credit, the main areas are kept clean, but the building itself is run-down and dilapidated. Very shady people lurk around the property. The only things worse than people lurking is the fact that most of them live there. There is a very high volume of police activity, and the Sex Offender Registry reveals that a convicted molester lives on the second floor. On Friday and Saturday nights, you can watch cars pull up in front while your neighbors reach into the passenger's side windows to exchange money and drugs or scantily clad neighbor-women loiter outside of the building and hop into strangers' cars that pull up for "dates." One rail-thin crack prostitute accused me of looking at her "funny" while we were on the elevator, and she went off. Her boyfriend, holding a black, plastic baggie containing a 40 oz of beer, had to pull her off the elevator and subdue her. The security guard explained to me that he talked to the crackhead about the incident, and she felt insecure about being a sex worker because I looked decent, and I didn't "smile" at her. The walls are thin enough to hear neighbor women being abused by boyfriends. One woman regularly got into shouting matches and physical confrontations, culminating in an event where she beat on a neighbor's door, demanding that he give her the couple's son. When the man refused, she broke the glass casing for the fire extinguisher on the wall and kicked the tenement's windows. To add the colorful characters here, you will be awakened early on Saturday mornings by a woman with a shopping cart, shouting "Ooohh-ran-ges!" Renters, beware!
