“A new manager started a couple of months ago and everything is so great now. The building and location were always kept up and the other people that live here are great. Now the building is very clean and the manager is helpful and responds fast”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“New management took over and it's been amazing. They have responded to me quickly and fixed a repair, the building is clean and our new manager is so nice and is handling things quickly. I am so much happier i wanted to make a review”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“Jose is a pervert. He goes into peoples places when they are not around and has stolen many personal affects. The office staff is on his side because they want to bury these truths. They benefit from his behavior and don't really understand the U.S. Constitution or the purpose it serves.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“Reading these old postings, I must clarify that Penni no longer manages this property. Jose does, and he is an excellent property manager. We have always had repairs in a timely fashion. Jose cleans and washes the outer terrace floors on a weekly basis. Yes, the elevator is constantly breaking down and water outages are frequent, but as a young single woman, I feel extremely safe here. The property is well-maintained and noise levels are to a minimum. I do here the metro passing, but it is merely a hum. Down side to this apartment: It's very dark. Not a ton of lights. The neighborhood doesn't have much for night life or restaurants aside from the bowling alley or the movie theater ($6).”
“Horrifying. We regretted signing the lease almost immediately. The landlord/property manager Penny is abusive, manipulative, and uses the security cameras to spy and gossip on the residents. I wish this was an over-exaggeration. I watched her harass my visitors for waiting silently for me outside the building for less than 5 minutes, spew racist/homophobic comments numerous times, and make horrible threats to young/disabled/low-income/POC tenants because she knew she could get away with it. She can be heard screaming daily at her husband or at tenants. If there is a maintenance issue, you will be blamed for it and it will not be fixed for weeks or months. They once bolted the entrance to the staircase shut for weeks while the elevator was broken and refused to fix it. The water is turned off very regularly, usually without notice. Cars in the "secured" garage were broken into. Only live here if you want to watch your quality of life drop drastically and somehow feel morally at peace with financially supporting a bigot.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“The apartment is a safe place to live. The environment and the surroundings are well taken care off by Mike Assi. (Husband) Penni Assi is a different story. I have come home several times and heard her being extremely abusive to a tenant and most especially to her husband. I have had several encounters with her if it was a good day for her my encounters were pleasant. SHE IS THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO HAVE A PET. However most days for her were very bad. She never seemed to be happy. In reality I feel so much pity for her and I am very surprised she hasn't given herself a heart attack yet. YES THATS HOW BAD IT IS! I am writing this review because if there is anything that future residents need to be warned about it is her. She is an extremely manipulative individual with no sense of how to do business. She is not capable of walking so she is literally on her A** all day chewing peoples head off on the phone. My experience with her on more than one occasion is that she takes people's words and twist them around. She never writes anything down so when it comes time to follow up if she forgets something she will make sure that you are wrong and not her. This is what you will find when you move in. During her initial interview process she will ask you very personal questions. She will then gossip about other tenants and pretend to be extremely kind. Once your all moved in you will begin to find that she is a completely different person. On the daily you will hear her screaming at her husband. At one point a few months ago I even heard her throw something towards him I was tempted to call the police. My recommendation is if you truly like the place move in. However please do not be deceived! I would suggest speaking with current residents before signing a lease.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“The elevator always breaks. The door to the entrance never works. It takes Penny and Mike months to make repairs. They always post passive aggressive notes on the walls and blame the tenants. You can hear Penny yelling at Mike from inside your apartment. They lie and tell you that your windows are sound proof. They're not. Things are always breaking inside your apartment. They don't care! They are nice to you until you sign your lease. Then they find any way to get you to leave so that you break your lease and they keep your deposit. Mike is always wandering around the building spying on tenants. There are cameras everywhere. They watch it and gossip about tenants. They hate gays. They will accuse you for things you didn't do. Penny will yell and curse at you. She's rude and loves power. Penny Assi and Mike Assi are the worst managers/apartment renters. They live on the first floor. Don't rent here. They are disgusting people.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“Penny the landlord, is extremely racist. She surveillances the whole apartment complex and gossips about the tenants. She is always yelling at her husband, who probably loves being told what to do. She lies and makes threats to you if you're not white.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“I do not recommend anyone to live here. It has been very uncomfortable for me and family. The landlord manager yells and screams at her husband, who does all maintenance, all day long and talks very loud and rude to the tenants. She has made racial slurs against Gay people, Black people, Jewish people, and Asians (that I know of). She is deceitful and just plain mean. We pay our rent yet treated as if we are intruders. If you're looking for a comfortable environment, I recommend looking somewhere else, because they are constantly snooping around and violating your privacy. The elevators are constantly broken, the water is turned off for various reasons so frequently, you need to keep a water supply for bathing. The plumbing is bad and the neighbors play loud music.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“Live here if you truly want misery, including gunshots sounds of constant helicopters responding late to said gunshots, a perpetually broken elevator, and mariachi music blaring all night long. (Despite what they say, the windows are not sound proof to those overwhelmingly common sounds.) But hey, it's the ------. And then complicating things, the owner Sudruddin "Steve" Kanji steals my security deposit and throws his unstable slumlord property manager under the bus for such acts (said property manager then engaged in a crying (like an infant) campaign to harass me and my elderly mother in chicago). Also funny/sad - Mr. Kanji doesn't like to pick up the certified letters he told me to send to his PO Box in Santa Monica proving he stole approx 60% of my security deposit, and could care less when faced with evidence that the unit's carpet was professionally cleaned (on the dime ($70) of me - the tenant) mere weeks prior to move out - he still deducted $80 for the same service from the same company. At least be consistent and steal the right amount. Oh, and they charged me $200 for cleaning and other bs charges when the place was left better than found. And I couldn't forget to mention the (former) property manager's voicemail rants attesting to "her pictures" of the unit after I left - pure insanity from that rude lady! Finally, I'll never forget move out day and how she deliberately turned off the elevator.”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“There was an ad on Craigslist for a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit in this complex. The contact name was Sherrie and I called the 323-245-9954 number that was listed. For whatever reason the call dropped twice, when I was finally able to get through, without a hello the lady rudely answered saying, "what happened to you, I picked up and no one was there" I apologized and blamed it on bad reception. We began talking about the units in the complex, I asked her if she had any 1 bedroom 1 baths available and she mentioned that there's a family moving out on the 31 of August and if I'd be able to move in right away. I asked if she had any pictures of the unit or if I could schedule a tour and she said that she doesn't do that. She asked if I would be the one moving in and I told her that it wasn't for me and that I'm looking at places for my boyfriend and she quickly said, "I have a long line of people waiting for units to open up so you could just stop wasting your time." AND HUNG UP! I called back out of rage and told her how rude she was and that she shouldn't be talking to prospective residents that way and she said "I don't have time to be dealing with people especially if they aren't the ones moving in" and hung up AGAIN! This lady is out of her mind! If she has such a long waistlist of people then why is she posting ads up on craigslist?! I can't believe this complex trusts someone like that to do business for them...”
— 210 N AVENUE 55 · Highland Park“I saw a listing on craigslist and decided to call the number that stated to ask for Barb. When the lady answered the phone I asked her about the listing and she said, "honey that listing is from a week ago, we do not have anything available" I started to apologize and she said how did you know my name? I said, "maam you had it listed on the ad." She continued to let me know that it was from over 2 weeks ago there is nothing available. I told her she should erase it and not get upset if someone is inquiring about a lising that is not available. She said, "who the F**k are you?" I am a 70 year old woman and I don't need to deal with your sh**t and hung up. Two seconds later she call me back on my cell phone and said, "Listen -----." I hung the phone up because I was in such shock. If this is the kind of service she gives a prospective resident what kind of service will she give her current resident. I am disgusted. I am not one to rant because people have bad days however this is just extreme...”
