I liked living here and am only moving since I'm going to hawaii. Since people have covered most of the good things, I'll respond to peoples negative reviews. I never had this banging sound that I have heard people speaking of or been to cold or hot..never needed an ac or heater. I lived in a smaller corner unit on the 11th floor and hardly heard a sound. The walls are the thickest I've found. I saw a small roach or two. Theres a hundred some people livin there for close to 100 years...yea there will be some grimy fools for roaches. I put that roach powder under thgings and kept spotless and had no problem. Parking sucks at times but if you work for a living the parking on the streets is open durring the hours you'll be home. I rarely walk more than two blocks but have got a ticket or two from forgettin to pay or move. You've got some tricks at local places to park for free...if you're streetsmarts you'll figure it out. As for the desk people..never any problems really. I'm a friendly guy and got along w/ them all. I've had friends and g/f stay at my place and wasn't hassled to much by it. I'd reccomend a higher floor. I suspect bugs and noises people talk of are on the lower floors.

I love living in the Gaylord- My husband and I met in the lobby, dated for years and were engaged on the roof. The people in the building make it a community- everyone watches out for each other and it truly is a lovely environment. The lobby and the back patio are gorgeous, the units are spacious and unique.

I used to live at the Gaylord. I was thrilled with the old character of the building and the restaurant downstairs, plus the neighbors who were all aspiring actors, musicians, producers, etc. I loved the lobby area where my friends would wait for me and just the fact that this apt used to be a hotel back in the 50's and 60's. I lived in 1104-B and enjoyed the nicely sized studio. I heard about the roach problem but didn't have much problems with it. One night though, I was awakened by a rattle-like sound coming behind the screen door, this wasn't a light sound, but a strong forceful noise. I ignored it and wondered if it was caused by a nearby incident such as a party at another apt, a crash somewhere, who knows. Then the noises continued on, after a while, it became clear that there was some paranormal activity going on in my apartment. I never told the apartment manager because I didn't want to seem crazy. I invited one of my friends to spend the night just to see if this would happen again, and sure enough it did. Then the window started opening by itself, with a creaky sound, creepy. My friend put matches on the corners to see if it was caused by the wind, since we were on the 11th floor. After a few minutes, we waited to see what would happen next. Then all of a sudden, the matches were coming out, as if someone was pulling them out, one by one. My friend was like, okay, your place is haunted for sure. I chose to deal with it since I had a year lease. One night I had a vivid dream, where I saw this red headed beauty surrounded by mutated people, they had lesions on their faces and I was supposed to rescue her, yeah, cheesy. I woke up and she was in my bed, smiling at me, then she disappeared. I was like, that's it. I had my guy friend spent the night the rest of the time I was there, just to make it bearable. Don't know if these activities still go on, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Still, really nice apt complex.

I have had a studio apartment at The Gaylord for eight year, and recently I had started looking for a bigger place. There's certainly plenty to choose from out there, right now apartments are plentiful and rents are greatly reduced so it's renters paradise. In fact I have found my own paradise and am happy to say it's right here, at The Gaylord! I know that many people love to complain and are spurred to write about how upset they are...but lately I have been making a point of noticing the good and then being sure to write it, so here It's. The Gaylord is experiencing a magnificent rebirth. This is directly contributed to the new mgmt, Mr. Eric Cutten. I have always found the residents of The Gaylord to be lovely people who create a caring community and who appreciate the beauty in this stately, old building - the mgmt was certainly capable and the maintenance is admirable. But building are like people, some are a better match than others, and Mr. Cutten and The Gaylord are a winning combination. Mr. Cutten is a talented artist with superb taste and communication skills and is certainly elevating the quality of life at The Gaylord. At present an amicable restoration is taking place of the original iron interior entrance which is being stripped of years of paint and restored to it's former grandeur, and I can only speculate that the rest of the building will follow suit. Even The Bounty seems to be going through a revival with it's trendy, unpretentious scene, and Toni's great food. You've got also nice stores and a new grocery within walking distance - the whole area is turning into a vibrant, urban center. When I realized that I may be moving from The Gaylord it made me sad to leave this place, especially as I was excited to experience living here under Mr. Cutten's stylish eye. I am happy to be staying, and thrilled to be taking part in the glorious transformation of one of the most beautiful, historically and architecturally significant building in all of Los Angeles.

I´ve lived at the Gaylord for almost a year now and I love the place. From the outside it has the charm of art deco. The lobby is beautiful if not as grand as some of the other older hotels that have become apartments. I love the 24 hour doorman and the fact that the rental office is downstairs. No matter what time of day or night if something goes wrong (which has rarely happened) the doorman can take your work order form and it´s usually fixed before you get home from work the next day. Also having someone downstairs 24 hours a day makes you feel safe as all quests have sign in and then announced. I have to say that the apartments are really nice as well. I have a view of the clover shaped pool and the secluded courtyard That's kept immaculately clean. Noise isn´t a problem. The only time I´ve ever heard a neighbor is when someone was hammering a picture to the wall. One good thing about noise is that if you have your windows open in the afternoons you can hear some of the amateur musicians practicing. Parking is a nightmare though as the building as no lot but you can pay for parking at some of the lots nearby within a block. this place is also rent controlled so you don´t have to worry about your rent skyrocketing. There´s everything you need on the block: a 7-11, a drycleaners, lots of restaurants, salons, and in the lobby of the buidling is the HMS Bounty a great restaurant/bar with pub food like fish and chips a daily special and the cheapest strongest drinks in town!

This building is run by slumlord owners and negligent mgmt. I lived here for many years and finally moved out last month. this place is infested with rodents, roaches, fleas, and bedbugs. Both ownership and mgmt allow tenants with bedbugs to use the shared laundry room, which spreads the infestation. There has been no heat for months despite utilities being included. The gym was closed for over two years, and when it reopened last year, it became infested with bedbugs. Ownership constantly changes mgmt companies — over eight from 2018–2025. The front desk and office staff are kind, but ownership is irresponsible. This place should be shut down. My experience was horrible.

A lovely caring community of neighbors, a piece of Hollywood history, and a charming place overall. Wake up calls in the am, the saftey of a doorman, and the bounty downstairs...it's unbeatable.

I've moved into the Gaylord a few months ago and it's been amazing ever since.<br>I love the history of the building, the little showcases displayed in the gorgeous art deco lobby. I love the patio and pool area and to have the HMS Bounty with all the great food, drinks and crowd is a special bonus.<br>Speaking of which... anually There's even a huge X-Mas party for the residents and friends in the lobby with live music, food and drinks.<br>As to the apartments... They are great, especially for the price. Rent control!<br>Every once in a while There's a bug to be found - as in other 80 year old buildings.<br>The bathtubs are huge, the views amazing, the walls are sound proof and the residents and "employees" are super nice.<br>Also having a maintenance crew that comes within minutes to a few hours to fix whatever you request (as long It's related to building/apartment maintenance) is good.<br><br>There's also tons of restaurants, bars, shopping, cafes, an internet cafe, post office, banks and the Metro Red Line within a short walking distance.<br><br>Parking sucks though. There's a few parking strucktures nearby that charge $70 and up for monthly parking.<br><br>To make it short... I love it and would totally recommend it to people who like to live in a place with a little history and style!

I have been living at The Gaylord for about a year, and have loved the experience. I really like the atmosphere here. The other residents are extremely kind. The amenities are simple, yet okay. I find the location to be amazing. It's walking distance from just about everything, and you can walk to the Vermont/Wilshire Red Line station and take the subway to Hollywood or downtown without having to find parking at those places. As far as parking at The Gaylord, it's not included. Though I found a parking garage two blocks away for $85/month, which is reasonable for a major city. The views are amazing! From my south-facing apartment I can see the new Robert Kennedy Community School (which is impressive) and on a clear day (yes, LA has clear days on occasion), I can see all the way to Palos Verdes Peninsula. Occasionally, I can see Catalina Island poking up behind the peninsula, too! On the north side of the building, people get a view of mountains, the Hollywood sign and Griffith Park. mgmt (Eric) is extremely helpful. The front desk for the most part does a great job, and maintenance is usually quick to fix any problems. (I gave parking 1 star because it's not included, and gave noise 4 stars because Wilshire Blvd is loud for those on the south-facing side.)
