I have lived here for 8 months and live in fear. The landlady constantly monitors all of the tenants like in that movie 'Sliver' from the 80's. I have caught her peaking down the hallway at me and my guests then hiding around the corner when we turn around and see her. When we are in the garage we see her hiding in the doorway, watching us with her constant eyes. I would move if it were not for the cheap rent, huge space, and roach roommates who accompany me when I am lonely (not to mention spiders, crickets and caterpillars). She has knocked on our neighbors door and told them that we do not live in a disco. I could not even here their music but she was waiting all night for them to turn their sound on so she could yell at them. I cannot prove but I am 100% sure she has been in my apartment when I am gone. I come home and things have been moved around that weren't there. She monitors the cameras all day and night and knows when I work and what my schedule is so I am sure she is snooping. Avoid this place at all costs. You will be seduced by the cheap rent and space but slowly your sanity will rot away at the consent harassment from the landlord Yellena.

I lived here for 2.5 years and really the biggest problem is the building manager. She is by far the worst person I have had the pleasure of dealing with. A few other comments on here try their best to give her the benefit of the doubt but it is not the case. She will yell and scream and accuse you of things before you even have a chance to do them. She will not leave you alone if you follow the rules and keep to yourself, as a few other have commented. I will not recommend this place and the soul reason is because of the building manager Elena.

I would just like to come to Western Serrano's defense. I have lived here going on 3 years and I am the young, white person that landlord Elena is supposedly racist about. Sure, is the landlord a little direct and abrasive? yes. But honestly I don't think she means it. Like one of the previous posters said as long as you show a little character and follow the rules than she generally leaves you alone. Have any of you complainers ever actually stopped by the office and said hello? Kindness will get you everywhere. Managing a rent controlled building with as many units as Western Serrano has got to be incredibly hard, especially for an elderly woman who has CANCER. In my opinion, every thing she does is to create a good community and I am very happy living here. When I was looking at units to rent here 3 years ago the one I am currently in wasn't going to be opening up for another 2 weeks. I told her I felt more comfortable with an upper floor unit but since there was a lower floor unit available, I would take that one because I knew she couldn't hold both units for me. Without me even asking she told me that she would hold the bottom unit for 2 weeks until I could see the upper unit and decide which one I wanted and when I chose the upper unit she RUSHED maintenance to get it ready for me. Her reason behind holding the units for me? She said she wanted me to be happy with where I lived and she knows life is short and wants to make people happy. She actually said that to me. So, no she is not a terrible person, just a little misunderstood. If you throw parties, have a ton of guests all the time, your roommate breaks your lease or if you just are generally a complainer and rule breaker than maybe you should rethink about the real reason you are having a bad time living here. And if you do things like that, go ahead and move out. I don't want you for a neighbor anyway. Also, say hi to the cleaning lady and maintenance guys once in a while too. I NEVER have had a problem getting anything fixed and also RIGHT AWAY. This isn't a place that you live in for a lifetime, but for a young person starting your career in LA you can't beat this place! With all the money I save by living here maybe I will buy a condo soon!

I lived in western Serrano apartments for half my life. Once this troll came to manage, all he'll broke lose. She's an obvious racist and isn't shy about it. The others tenants called her ------. She hates people who smoke, but she's puffing her buck tooth mouth away. She's the worst troll ever. I had my ------- butch lover over, and she indirectly wanted to flirt with her. My lover was petrified, I'm starting to think she's an old -------,which would explain her loneliness and never to have had children. If I had a choice I would of never invited Barbara my ------- lover over. Big ------- mistake. I caught her snooping in my door when we would make rough bondage passionate love. I think she's bionist. I caught her in my apartment with my thong in her hand, that's when I left. When I wanted my deposit back, she refused. I had 3 years of living there and she kept my money.

The Landlord Elena is a -----. She gets into people's business and mostly hates females. She's racist and has discriminated against Armenian tenants since she was hired. She had signs in the garage area reading "please do not feed the cats" removed simply to please a tenant who is mentally unstable and allow more cats in the garage area. She habitually enters tenant's apartments without notice and I suspect steals property. She is a sad excuse of a human, let alone a landlord. I only fear that her reign of terror at the Western Serrano Complex will only continue until she is caught being the sneaky thief that she really is. God bless America.

I rented here for a year. If you are expecting to get your deposit back, don't rent here. Roaches, mold, and staff invading privacy. It was a bad experience in the end, was alright most the time. If you like going to your car and smelling exhaust from the crazy lady that leaves her car running all night, and sits inside her car petting stray cats. This place is for you. The cat food all over the parking lot attracts raccoons and other woodland creatures too. Manager is cool though, she is cautious, if you show some character you'll be cool with her.

I have lived at the apartment complex for less than a year now. I loved it and handled the manager fine until some issues came up with my roommate and he had to move out. These issues were very serious, including verbal abuse and sexual harassment. She came into the apartment and into my room where I was with a couple of my friends who were there for support while my roommate moved out. She kept going back and forth between wanting to know the situation and not wanting to know "any of my dirty business". She then proceeded to call me an hour later asking me to come down to talk to her about my situation. I started telling her a brief summary of what was going on and she cut me off. She also brought up how my apartment was very messy and how she has provided me with a great place to live and bs like that. The apartment was messy because I had been sleeping out in the living room due to the heat and the AC is in the living room. My friend had been staying with me and taking care of me for about 4 days (I had been very ill and unable to care for myself) and the manager said that she has been seeing my friend come and go on the cameras so she know shes staying here and that I will be evicted. When my roommate initially talked to her about moving out, she said that he needed to write a letter to the owner explaining the circumstances. I also wrote a letter. She said he was on vacation and would be back in a week. It has been almost three weeks since I was supposed to hear back about it. In addition, my friend who has been taking care of me through my illness attempted to apply for the apartment after my roommate moved out. She had all the paperwork prepared (pay stubs, etc) and because she had just moved down here she didn't have a job. The manager refused her an application. She had money, good credit, and just recently got a full time job. Both of us are terrified to approach her so I am trying to get through to the owner. It's sad that two vulnerable young white girls from the midwest are not taken seriously and are being taken advantage. Your home is where you should feel the most comfortable. And I find that I am always looking behind my back, avoiding, etc. The manager is HOSTILE, unmanageable, disagreeable, un-rightfully accusatory, and disrespectful. I would recommend this apt complex because it is extremely affordable for the area that it is in, the apt complex is very well kept, it is a rent control building (so they have to maintain the property well anyway), it is safe, the apartments are huge, and there is underground parking.

I lived here for two years. The landlady was a nightmare. She accused me twice of having all night parties (I WORK NIGHTS...NOT EVEN HOME AT NIGHT) when I explained this she threatened to evict me. Whatever. She entered my apartment without my permission twice and eventually admitted to it! Her response was "What are you hiding?"???? Every conversation has to turn into a SCREAMING match. Eventually I had problems with one tenet leaving food out for cats overnight, even though the manager has had signs posted since I'd moved in. I pointed this out to the cat feeder & she lost her ---- & told the landlady that I "attacked her". The landlady confronted me denying the existence of the signs, then proceeded to tear down several (she missed four). She then threatened to blackmail me if I told anyone. "People will call asking about you after you move out and I can tell them ANYTHING" yeah I moved out that week. Stay away for your own piece of mind.

Well I have lived at this address for 2 years now and I really like it. Decently sized 1 bedroom, covered parking, close to Ralphs, and mostly pleasant neighbors. I realize that there are a lot of negative reviews based on the landlady, but I honestly have not had a problem with her. One review stated that she is racist against non Armenians, young white people, and people with tattoos. I am a young, white, heavily tattooed person and I have never experienced any prejudice from the landlady, rather she has been very kind and understanding with my roommate and I. Yes, she has a very rough exterior, but if you take the time to talk to her or look past her stern exterior she is quite helpful and pleasant.

This place is not bad except the manager.somehow she feels that her position gives her the right to harass and scream at the tenants with lies.she makes up childish and unprofessional accusations and blames tenants for mandatory maintenance work. She is racist and its obvious ,against --------- and ------ who are peacefull family tenants and has an issue with young white non Armenians .In addition to the managers extreme failure our carand othervehicles were broken into and nothing was done even though the parking lot has cameras on both sides.Manager claims not to know or care but is quick to harass on any unimportant detail. Honestly the only reason I live here is because hollywood is my homeland . Please think b4 u consider moving inn here. PS I'd appreciate it if this comment not be erased ......................our community group keeps an eye on this site!
