Lived here for a while. Like the other reviews, it was good in the beginning until the management changed and the real artists moved out. Who replaced them? Working professionals and drug addicts. It was previously an artist haven with a communal mentality, where neighbors would have gatherings and doors open. In other words, it was a friendly place. Now, domestic disputes, drug overdoses, and paramedics along with violent, drunken and threatening confrontations coming from a particular drug addicted and racist residents (Building 1, Unit 102) occur frequently. Management notified, written and verbal complaints filed, and even the Los Angeles Police Department have been called numerous times, with no resolution. The new manager Alex avoids any type of involvement despite at the very least 5 or 6 different units filing complaints. It was once a great place to live, but now it is a place where people are finding a way to rationalize into staying. There are better places to live that are built more soundly (paper thin walls) and affordable (roughly $2000/mo plus $200 in utilities) where your concerns that are valid and a safety issue will be heard and addressed, especially if more than 6 different units are complaining with video evidence and police reports regarding a particular resident.

I live at Lacy Lofts and I think it is a wonderful experience. Most people don't understand that these are not APARTMENT buildings; they are live/work lofts intended for people in the arts industry who have the ability to turn raw space into something unique and creative. Yes, the units are industrial and bare, but that's the whole point. Each tenant turns his or her space into their own creation. As for noise issues, sometimes it is loud, due to recording studios, art showings, etc., but that comes with the territory. People here are respectful of each other's line of business and if you ask people to turn down their music or keep the noise to a minimum, they will. In addition, the lease states that IT IS A NOISY building by nature and that by signing the contract you recognize that, but that noise should be kept to a minimum after 10 pm and that a tenant who is in violation of this will need to make improvements to their soundproofing, etc. This is a WORK space, too, not just living, and people should be aware of this and able to operate their businesses as they see fit. Lacy is a community of creative people. We inspire each other and use the close living as an opportunity to form a bond. Case in point: when the electricity went out in December due to the wind storm and the city was left without any means of light, etc, the lacy community came together. We had a barbeque outside and kept each other company and checked on each other until the power came back on. People here are friendly, helpful and caring. As for parking, management does everything within their power to enforce parking rules. However, not even the best property management company can stop a tenant from using his or her gate clicker to let someone in against the rules. However, most people are pretty respectful of this rule. The order of the day IS NOT drugs, porn and minimal maintenance. Do not listen to one disgruntled tenant who has not seized the opportunity to make the best of a unique living experience. Lacy is a place that works best if you have a vision in mind, like to create your own space, and have a desire to get to know some really interesting people.
