I moved back into the Hollywood Studio Club in September 1999 (I'd also lived here between November 1990-September 1991) and, until not too long ago, never even considered moving out. I've been in Hollywood for 20 years now, love the central location of the building and think the pool area is one of the best in town...but that's still not enough to override the incredible incompetence displayed by mgmt ever since they changed the name to the Victor in June 2006. In fact, I didn't think it was possible, but the current mgmt team is, without a doubt, the most clueless assemblage I've seen in the past decade. In the two years since the transformation to the Victor Hollywood, some decisions have been made that are, quite frankly, puzzling at best...to wit: The decision to paint the majority of the building a dark, sun-absorbing color. While it might have seemed a good aesthetic decision in terms of making the building stand out more to some executive back at corporate--based in a cold-weather city, no doubt--the reality is that in a climate such as that found in southern California, pastel colors are far better in terms of saving energy, especially in a time of rampant global warming. It would be interesting to call the DWP and see how much the building's usage of electricity has increased since the new paint job was installed, particularly in those units facing south and west, which receive the most prolonged exposure. And let's not even get into the dungeonlike aesthetics now. As a result of this decision, the hallways, particularly the upper floors, are markedly hotter than before, often not too unlike saunas...yet, for some reason, the air blowers that previously circulated the air in the hallways are almost never turned on. Why is that? When this building was still the Studio Club, I can't recall the blowers ever being turned off in the summertime; now, the temperature outside apparently has to exceed 100 degrees to get any relief in the hallways. Again, a puzzling decision, especially when one considers how much the rental rates have been raised in the past few years. To make matters worse, during business hours the staff runs air-conditioning in the lobby and first floor...but shuts it down immediately upon the cessation of office hours. What, residents don't deserve at least ONE hallway that isn't sweat-inducing? When the pool area was redone two winters ago--taking almost three times as long as originally promised, though that's a tale for another time--instead of using curved-edged tile for the areas bordering the pool and Jacuzzi, they used a flat-edge tile That's completely inappropriate (the grooves for grout are what face inward, toward the water!). I'm really quite surprised that there's yet to be a serious injury from this major mistake though I guess I'd better knock wood after writing that. Speaking of the great outdoors, for the last few summers there's been a fairly large puddle located by the rear entrance to the pool area, full of an algae-like substance and providing a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Since the West Nile Virus, which is primarily transmitted through the insects, has been detected in this neighborhood for the past four years, this isn't exactly a satisfactory situation, especially when considering the number of older folk who have recently moved in and are most prone to the effects of the virus...and don't even get me started about the vast lakes that serve as breeding grounds in the parking garages. We were recently informed that the bathrooms adjacent to the pool area were now off-limits to residents and are now available only to the on-site staff and prospective residents. Huh? Prospective residents get to use the bathroom, while rent-paying residents enjoying the pool area have to troop upstairs to use their own now (literally troop, as more often than not the elevators seem to be out of order, particularly during hot weather [see points 1 & 2 above])? I must confess that the logic behind this move escapes me...as does the recent decision to no longer accept packages for residents, instead forcing them to deal with the hell That's the Wilcox Avenue Post Office. As for the parking situation...well, I don't drive, but maintain my space, which is almost never empty on the rare occasions I have a friend over and want them to park off the street...and really, I can't understand why they don't use the towing option more often. How many cars have they had towed? I imagine it would be fairly easy to swing a deal with a local towing company for a week or two and arrange a zero-tolerance policy toward parking in a spot not your own, towing without fail. And don't even get me started about the AUM fees. Now, how a Chicago mob-affiliated waste mgmt firm can charge residents of a Los Angeles building for "water" and "sewer"--um, doesn't that fall under the purview of LADWP?--is, quite frankly, incomprehensible...but it still adds an extra $25-40 per month to your rent. I could go on, but I think you get the point by now. In my eyes, at least, the service in this building has gone down incredibly since the new owners took over and transformed the Studio Club into "The Victor"...but it seems that in the past four months that pace has only increased, what with a new Gestapo-like security presence that seems more intent on hassling longtime residents for "pool passes"--yes, that's right, you're need to to have a pass out by the pool, like back in second grade--than, say, keeping the building secure or having illegally parked cars towed. For the most part, I've truly enjoyed the last nine years that I've resided at 1745 N. Wilcox, in the heart of Old Hollywood; but if things keep going the way they are, I'll definitely be packing my bags when my lease expires in February and moving on to sunnier locales.

This is now called the Victor Hollywood. Don't even think about it! This place is trash and filled with a bunch of absolute slobs. People setting of the fire alarms, thin walls, trash thrown everywhere, and poor mgmt that changes on a weekly basis will make your life here rather unpleasant. You've got residents that spit on the walls and carpets in the hallways...nice charming touch! They are in the middle of a renovation which consists of hiding the poor quality of the place with a coat of paint. They took the numbers off the apartment doors to paint them...and haven't seem them against since. The "temporary" paper numbers taped on the doors lasted about a week until some residents thought it was funny to rearrange all of them on the wrong doors. One of the elevators hasn't worked in at least 3 months. If you have a problem don't think the mgmt will help or even act report your problem. I had an air conditioner that didn't work properly and it took about 8 complaints to get someone to actually come to the apartment to look. People leave cigarette butts and empty alcohol containers near all the windows. Some nice graffiti here and there. I've even saw a man in the elevator with a gun! This place is aweful! Stay away!

I needed an upscale Hollywood apartment That's easy to my work and lifestyle. This was one in my top lists. I called them and the leasing consultant, Jo, was helpful to make everything simple, clear and concise. She was friendly, accommodating, and legit. She made the process easy. Im still looking around possible apartments, but I recommend this place for their reputable customer service. So if you are just like me looking for good apartment in Hollywood, give them a call and look for JO!

I enjoyed staying because of vicinity to shops and bars and public transport stations. I'd recommend also from a safety point of view as the unit it's well surveilled especially at night. I stayed in a small studio apartment, it was essential but complete.

Love the pool and the gym. Pretty quiet once inside unit. Maintenance is always cleaning and taking good care of things. Parking is sometimes an issue but mgmt has been working on it. Wish the carpet wasn't white it can get pretty grimy even though I clean twice a week.
