I lived at the La Leyenda from 2006-2008. I commuted from New York CIty each month. I I could have chosen to live in any building in Los Angeles but chose the La Leyenda because of the great history and the management.. Kevin was the best manager of any building I have ever lived in on both coasts. These whinny tenants that live there and have lived there should try living in new york city. then a comparison can be legitimately written. oh sure, there are small problems with the building, but what building that age doesn't have issues, but the management and owners are on top of it. i highly recommend living there. The apartments are spacious and the floor plans are roomy and unique. The garden and fountains in the courtyard are special. and they are maintained weekly. I loved living there and would choose to live there again if I had to move back to Los Angeles.

this is a very dangerous place to live besides the place being a dump and overpriced, it is directly across the street from Motel 6 where all kinds of drug addicts and drunks hang out. On the weekends, there is usually a sidewalk sale in front of the building and in the lobby. What a mess. This is certainly a ------ place to live. I was never so glad to have my lease expire. I moved out the very next day

Whoever says that this is a great place to live must be from another planet. If you are looking for a place to live in Hollywood, must sure that this is the last place on your list. Too expensive!! You pay $1,100 for an apartment, then the utilities are approximatley $120.00 (Kevin gets a kickback), then there is city tax $3.00 (big joke - only building in Hollywood that does this), then you pay $100.00 to park around the corner in an unsafe parking structure - so the price to live in this dump is approximatley $1,330 because the crooked manager, Kevin, does not tell you the complete truth as to the cost of living in this dump. I was never so glad as when my lease was up so as to move out immediately.

This place is a dump - There are other affordable housing in Hollywood and in the same vacinity - but if you like to be cheated out of your money, then this is the place to live. Kevin is a horrible landlord and horrible person. Once you met him, you will know what a creep he really is.

So I can come on here in 2010 and write a negative review based on my experiences A DECADE AGO?! "Whatever you do, DON'T move to La Leyenda because 10 years ago I had a bad experience there. Oh, by the way, I'm just going to quote the delusional rantings of my mentally ill neighbor. She said that the manager is mafia, so I'm just going to repeat that rumor. And I trashed my apartment so I didn't get my deposit back, and that pisses me off so you shouldn't even consider moving in there." If anybody decides to not move into the building based on the nonsense they read here, well, good riddance. We probably don't want you in the building anyway. And yes, I have lived here for years. I recognize most of the posts and I think I know who wrote them and I'm glad they're gone. Most of what is written here is total BS. Yes, 10 years ago this place sucked. But all of Hollywood was bad back then. It is a VERY different neighborhood now and I'm glad I stuck it out and stayed. I love this building and the current management is better than any place I've ever lived. If you don't believe me, just come over here and ask anybody who CURRENTLY lives here.

I lived at the La Leyenda Apartments for two horrific years (1998-2000). The reason I stayed so long was because the complex accommodated pets of all shapes and sizes and I owned a very large dog. Basically, this building is a nightmare. The then manager entered my apartment one afternoon unannounced with a maintenance man while I was in the bathtub....! Later in the day I confronted him and we got into a violent screaming match before he chased me out of his office and down the street swinging and hitting me with his umbrella. This man was also accused of assaulting other tenants. He constantly entered people's apartments rifling through and stealing personal belongings. The water was shut down approximately three times per week and there is no parking on premises unless you apply and get on their four year waiting list! Take everyone's advice and MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. This place is DANGEROUS!

We lived here from 08 to 09 and it was great in a pinch as we moved from another city. The apartment itself was okay. A bit small and parking blows because we had to use the lot around the corner which is crowded as it's the main parking lot for all the trendy things around there. Sometimes there are some neighbors that are a bit weird. It's a very thin building as the walls and floors are sensitive so our first day, the guy below us had the nerve to write a note about the noise of us moving in. But we quickly addressed that issue as we don't love passive aggressive people in the least. The courtyard is murder. One night, some meth addict from across the way (another building) shouted and shouted until the wee hours of the night. You can't call cops as you don't know what building it is (there are three around there). The water is a problem as it gets shut off alot. The elevators are cute but tiny. The manager wasn't bad at all for us. They do get you for a security deposit unless you get a cleaning crew and make it spotless. As for safety, we did have a lady above us who had a whole story about some guy who was stalking her. I witnessed it and saw him in the building wandering around. Not cool.

OMG, where do I start. I had always wanted to live in the building because of its architectural beauty and was thrilled when I first moved in to be living in such a magnificent building in the heart of Hollywood. Then the nightmare slowly began...the first thing that happened was a few days after moving in someone pasted a threatening note on my front door calling us all kinds of racial slurs ( we are white btw ) and telling us to get out, then the neighbors teenage son who was mentally ill would scream at his grandmother on the second floor for hours and hours at a time, the apartment was right next to the elevator so every time anyone went up or down the whole apartment shook like a 7.9 earthquake, underneath my apartment a meth addicted dj would spin house on 10 all day and all night, the opera singer on the first floor would go half naked in the non working fountain, the fountain worked about 1/16 of the time I lived there, a prostitute dominatrix would parade her "slaves" all over the first floor and lobby, the buildings around faced the courtyard and echoed with drunk loud people all day and all night, the cat lady's apartment on the 6 floor was covered in black toxic mold, the porn stars on the end of the hall on the forth floor filmed porn in the stairwell and dealt cocaine & weed, and faulty maintenance combined poor electrical wiring caught my apartment on fire and all of my things burned. Not too mention the neighbors were unfriendly (except for the cat lady) and the manager was supposedly mafia from Chicago. He, the manager J.B., was caught and arrested vandalizing my car by LAPD. He also broke into my apartment and took documents trying to blame my family for the fire. Parking was a nightmare, the water got shut off for hours and hours at a time and it was like an inferno in the summer and Stalingrad in winter. And those were the buildings good points...I would never send my worst enemy there. Well, maybe my worst enemy....

This was indeed how the building USED to be; notice how long ago all the negative reviewers lived here. The current manager, Kevin, is very nice, understanding, quiet (he lived next door to me!), and takes great care of the beautiful vintage bldg. In the 4 years I lived there, he took care of the few little apt. problems I had very quickly, and not once did he enter my apartment without giving me 24 hour written notice. The building and grounds were impeccably kept and everyone I knew in the building loved it! Parking does suck around there and is even worse now with all the new trendy spots. And yes, once in a while people in the OTHER apt. bldgs. adjoining our courtyard were loud and rude in wee hours of the morning-- but hey people, it's the City! If you're looking for a very cool apartment (they're all different!) on a very quiet street just steps away from the circus that is Hollywood Blvd., La Leyenda is the place for you!

I lived here for a year and a half; from 1998 through early 2000.
The manager was an alcoholic and did many unethical things like threaten people´s lives and on MANY occasions, entered peoples appartments without notice while they were out.
The worst feature besides the horrible water system (the water would be turned off at LEAST 3 times a week) was the cavernous courtyard. With all the surrounding buildings and VERY noisy neighbors, it made sleeping impossible, even with great earplugs.
The elevator was right near my bedroom and literally, the whole room shook when it went up and down.
When I left, they charged me $100 for the colored paint which the MANAGEMENT painted themselves!
Most of the tenants were VERY inconsiderate and selfish; what do you want, it IS Hollywood, right?
The guy on the first floor was even convicted of pedophilia, which occured all in the building; he was a really evil guy.
The new owners are very unethical also.
I HIGHLY warn anyone considering moving into this VERY HORRIBLE building which is also FAR too expensive, especially for where it is.
BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
