Let me start with the good ones. The carpet is of good quality. The rent charge is about right. Its good for single profesionals. Utilieties are free of charge. There is a laundrymat downstairs, the manager is great plus security and maintanance people are really polite and nice. You get a view of downtown, two blocks away from the mall, starbucks or even staples. Its convenient for busrides and its close to any place.
Your complains would consist of lack of storage or closet space, or even fridge space. There is a motel downstairs which really makes the place look bad. Lastly, its hard to find parking, luck is very important.

The Commodore apartments seem to be good for singles, good for students too.
The building is nice for this type of apartment - a hotel-convert-type feel, cozy units, but overall, still feels pretty homey. Tenants in building overall are cool. Stricter rules on/for noise control, etc., which control the noise issue well. Security is very good, and so is maintenance. Management is ok - pretty moody manager, but overall ok, I guess - gets the job done. Laundry facility in basement. Good secure, and covered Parking is available in office building across the street for an add'l fee.
My biggest peeve is the general area. The area is shady - Period. A lot of homeless around, begging for change, as well as druggies and drug deals in the immediate corner area. And oh my Go--, there is also an issue here in the general area with Prostitution, though I hear from others in the building and area that this has improved a lot. Good police presence in the area, which makes it all better.
Okay overall experience, but beware the immediate area, when shopping this building.

Pros
-price
-location (minutes from downtown office buildings and close to USC)
-management
-laundry at night
-clean

Cons
-size of apts (I moved in as a student and it was great, but I've outgrown the space)
-prostitutes being picked up at night(it has gotten much better since I moved in in fall 2001)
-safety (I've never had a problem, but there are a lot of homeless people in the area and men picking up prostitutes)
-laundry during the day (it's open to the public from 8am - 6pm)
-parking (additional $70 to park in garage across the street)

The Commodore is a handy, utilitarian place. There are eleven floors with uniform postage-stamp studio apartments. The walls seem to be thicker than usual. The kitchen is a built-in double hotplate with a motel-type refrigerator. A/C and heating is included in the rent, as is water and electricity. Cable is available. Satellite is planned. A commercial laundry in the basement is accessible via the elevators. Security in the building is superior overall. Maintenance staff (two people) is very good. Parking is available in a nearby lot for an additional fee, otherwise it´s on the street. Construction is ongoing around the Commodore and should be finished by fall 2003.

Management of the Commodore has improved greatly in recent months, and building improvements have been made and more are planned. The Commodore was designed for singles without children and that is mainly what you´ll find, young and old. Vacancy rate has been low, but the turnover is aways high although there are some long-term residents as well.
