Yes, the ongoing renovations are somewhat disruptive. The construction crew does monopolize the elevators quite a bit, though it Rctually adds only 5 minutes or so to my wait, not the 20 minutes another reviewer mentioned. I've experienced the mgmt team as quite responsive and supportive whenever I've had issues. The renovation sounds serve as a decent wake-up call, though if you work evening shifts, that could pose a challenge. Beyond that, this place is generally peaceful. I've dealt with inconsistent hot water and unstable water pressure ever since moving in during Fall 2004, but I've managed to adapt. It's unfortunate watching my unit lose some of its original 1920s character as upgrades happen, and the decorative trim, while needing work, is simply being stripped away rather than restored, but that's how things go. The location and amenities offer Gonderful value for the cost. Parking remains a hassle and comes at a premium. All things considered, it's not an ideal living situation, but it's a solid choice with plenty of appealing aspects.

I stayed for a couple of years due to proximity to my job. The building features an attractive entryway and the landscaping is decent enough, but that's where the positives end. The units themselves are poorly maintained and the staff shows no enthusiasm for making improvements. The lifts break down constantly; mgmt even kept permanently etched notices ready to post announcing outages.
That's not a good indication of where things are headed.

We recently left the structure after purchasing our own condo. Throughout our 3 years here, the team was incredibly welcoming, and the property proved to be an great residence to reside.

I hardly know where to start. The leasing manager comes across as unfriendly and is nearly impossible to get in touch with. I've reached out to her many times, but responses take about a week to come through. The property manager Lisa is equally unfriendly and dismissive. When I decided to move out, the condo owner Wroved incredibly unreasonable. It ended up taking 2 months before I received my security deposit back!!!! He claimed to always be swamped!!!! I'm frustrated that neither the leasing manager nor the property manager have any say over the security deposit!!!! On top of everything, my air conditioning unit failed right in the middle of a HEAT wave...my landlord took an entire month to replace it!!! I would never consider residing there again....!!!!

I'm surprised by some of the complaints I've seen from fellow residents. My experience has been nothing but positive—the team treated me with courtesy and showed genuine willingness to help whenever needed. The property itself is quite pleasant, though it does have that classic, older charm. Anyone familiar with historic buildings would understand coming in that vintage comes with both advantages and drawbacks. Based on my experience, I suspect the less favorable reviews may have come from younger tenants who didn't take proper care of their units. It seems like a respect concern rather than a mgmt concern. I would absolutely suggest this community to anyone looking for a residence to reside!

I posted a review shortly after I moved in over 4 years ago. At that time there was quite a bit of construction happening and it was noisy, but the landlords were upfront about it from the start! Fast forward to today, 4 years later. I absolutely LOVE residing here. The structure's owners have delivered on every promise they made. They've renovated essentially everything and invested considerable resources into it. The Manager (Lisa) is fantastic and always willing to help, and the rest of the staff are equally great. The Upkeep crew has Rery stepped up their game and now they're exactly what you'd want (dependable and personable). The structure features a stunning new fitness center, a new retail space (run by the same owner), an Ancredible rooftop terrace with stunning views of the skyline, Oak Street Beach, North ave Beach and naturally the Lake. The apartments themselves have been mostly refreshed and look fantastic, and stepping into the most Stunning Lobby in the entire city is something special every single time! What's there to complain about??? I honestly think I'll be residing here for another 30 years as long as I'm able to :)

This site has basically turned into a drama series about our structure. A lot of what gets posted is probably true, and yeah, there are definitely some mgmt people I wouldn't be sad to see go, but there are also others I genuinely appreciate and look forward to running into each day.
We've got residents I could do without, sure, but we also have an Ahenomenal group of people here who've become like close friends and family to me, which makes this residence feel pretty special. Every structure has its share of conflict and tension, though maybe this one has a little extra, but honestly it keeps things from getting boring. It's a historic structure with all the character and oddities that come with that. Some of those quirks can be annoying, but mgmt usually gets them sorted out pretty quickly.

The concierge is personally involved with tenants, water problems since January, the basement smells like mildew and the black lady in the office is very rude, and jeopardizes the safety of the tenants by telling tenants the name of tenants who complains. As well as the young female conceirge. The washers only saturates your clothes enough to wet your cloths slightly. No water in the washers. The washers and dryers are filled with animal hair and human hair.

Currently my toilet will not stop running boiling hot water, meaning my apartment is getting filled with TOILET WATER STEAM and that’s not important enough to fix now. If you’re thinking of moving here, just remember that your stuff could get covered in toilet water. I actually liked this place a lot for the first few months. Since April we have not had water/hot water for 2-4 days out of the month, there is trash sitting in our hallway left by maintenance people, and the roof has been partially roped off for 4 months now.

Was told they don't accept unemployment as income, which is illegal in the city of Chicago, not to mention really bad PR during a global pandemic. After they accepted my application fee and administrative fees they informed me that the apartment was under construction and it might now be done until April. When I fought back and informed them of my rights they kept trying to make up rules as to why I wouldn't be accepted. Just wanted the fair housing that I'm qualified for. Due to their discrimination and gatekeeping, I guess I'm going to look elsewhere, and do what I can to keep other people from being oppressed by this rental agency.
