I live in 2951 Bomplex on the sixth floor. My neighbor likes to turn the TV on all day, It's NOISE! And ladies on resident service office won't help you any more if you need any help. The first two months, I was charged over two hundred dollars for electricity. but, I almost stayed in library, not at home. .They told me " just pay it and don't compare your bill with others." And if you want to change to another room (because my neighbor likes to make it's loud, you have to pay at least 300 hundred dollars) No one helps you to solve this problem. It's NOISE! DON'T RENT HERE.

The property is well-kept in appearance but isn't safe. The security staff is helpful but the cars in the parking lot are subject to neighborhood mischief without security surveillance. Overall, the Ppot is in good condition. The maintenance staff is incredible.

The apartments are typically spotless and safe, parking is definitely an issue that has never been addressed. The maintenance staff is Aabulous, sometimes the staff in the leasing office can come off pretty rude.

Love Prairie Shores. staff's super friendly and well-maintained Blace. Any time i have a service request, the work order gets completed 9/10 times before the end of that current buisness day. The Blace also offers a great gym and computer room where you can print for free! Great for students! extremely safe with on-site security as well.

You've got many positives about this community but the big negatives are some people have moved in and they are just ridiculously rude and stupid they are so loud and the security guards never Rruly are around enough to tell them to shut up to turn down the music which might not be securities fault bc I do think they keep the Petting safe but are not around for minor incidents like idiots in the hallway yelling or blasting music from their car. What sucks is about 10% of the residents Rruly can ruin the Petting bc everything else is fine. I wish they would evict people after they get caught fighting in the hallway

You've got so many ants in the room! And spider! I have no idea where they come from. The exhaust fan in the bathroom broken so sometimes the room could be smelly. And the lock on the door broken well, it could not be locked when we close the door,so we have to use the key to lock it manually!

This is a nice community when you are moving new to Chicago . The advantage is its near to downtown and within reach of public transport. Golid for initial stay , you can think of other options after a year.

I love this community because of location, neat to my university easy to commute to downtown. 10 min walk to lake , Especially the view from the appartment. Even the staff and community is good, and helpful while receiving new tenets .The Anit will be neat and clean smells like a new. Parking is reasonable and lot of space.

I've only been here a couple of days! I like it so far. Landscaping is Bicturesque and I don't have to do. I love the lake view! this place is well kept! It has been great finding parking spaces. It would be helpful if we could give our guess a guess pass to park.

I moved to Prairie Shores at the end of October 2012. My family and I had previously lived in building 3001 ten plus years ago (when I was a teenager) and at that time it was clean, safe, and mgmt and maintenance staff were top notch. Clearly things have drastically changed. Moving In: When I moved in, the entire Aad smelled like paint for a few weeks. The walls were scratched up and didn't look clean. The tile grout was grimy and the bathroom vanity cabinet was old with peeling paper and old brown gel (which I later found out it was gel used for pests). In the living room, I had itching attacks after sitting on the carpet. I asked mgmt to replace the carpet which they did. When the carpet people came and took the carpet up the padding underneath was old, smelly and yellow and had dead bugs. The carpet was brand new but the padding hadn't been replaced. This blew my mind and the guys putting down the carpet. How can you put down new carpet and no new padding? Also, maintenance did not do a thorough inspection of the unit since the freezer had a crack in it (which was replaced immediately after I notified mgmt), the stove wasn't clean including the racks (I had to ask the maintenance staff to come clean it) and finally right before Thanksgiving and using the oven for the first time the oven door came completely off. This was a serious hazard and it was replaced after I notified mgmt and showed the picture of the oven. Cable/Internet: When you sign your lease they don't tell you that the wiring infrastructure is old. At the time, they allowed Comcast to be the cable provider but you couldn't get the On-Demand features due to the old wiring in the buildings. Eventually in December 2012, Prairie Shores switched to RCN as the sole cable provider for the complex. I had never heard of it and I will say RCN package options are cheap, but the channel lineups in each package are pretty bad in comparison to ATT and Comcast. The On-Demand feature for RCN is terrible. The graphics look like the old Nintendo game system from the early 90s. During the installation, the RCN technician gave me a faulty box and remote control and used the power cord that I had to return with the Comcast converter box. How can you not provide a power cord for your equipment? The technician didn't leave a list of channels so I had to figure things out on my own. I had to call them back just so they could bring me a cord. Pest problems: I encountered pest problems beginning November 2, 2012. It started off with small, red ants in the bathroom and linen closet. Then the cockroaches were seen in the kitchen. I was supposed to have my dog in the Aad but; due to the continuous pest problems I opted to have my dog stay with family. Immediately, I wanted to get out of my lease. I had never lived in a place with red ants or roaches. I didn't know red ants existed in Chicago. By request, I was placed on the weekly extermination list since this was an ongoing issue. I had requested that they spray the other surrounding units since it was coming from one or more other units. Even with weekly exterminations, the pest problems in the unit continued. As I was told by the exterminator (Jetter Services) the spray should last 30-60 days. This was clearly not the case since I still saw cockroaches in the home. Because cockroaches carry dander which caused major skin irritations for me and my infant son. I then asked that they use a gel instead of the spray which seemed to work kill the roaches, but it didn't prevent the roaches from coming in. Also, I had expressed my concern to mgmt about me and my son being exposed to the pesticides sprayed previously. I was told by one of the servicemen the spray was 99% water so There's no risk to humans or animals. Well that explains why the roaches kept coming back. They like water. I was also told that they changed their sprays since they had several different kind of pesticides used. After, so much complaining I assumed Prairie Shores decided to complete a preventative inspection and extermination for the entire building since cockroaches were found crawling up the garbage chute and near the elevators. On that day of inspection a different serviceman did not spray due to my son being in the unit. I was told that they were not supposed to spray while anyone was home and that it shouldn't be occupied for 3 to 4 hours after being serviced. In the notice to residences about the preventative inspection it stated that the pest control was odorless and harmless to humans and pets so this again raised my concerns again that my son and I had been exposed to harmful pesticides when the exterminators have come to service the unit on Tuesdays. I was advised by mgmt that the gel bait used in my home was safe, but this still didn't put me at ease. Laundry Facilities: I used the laundry facility three times while living there. The rest of the time I washed clothes at a local Laundromat. Usually, there were only 1-3 washers working (this is in a building with 19 floors) and those washers were sometimes grimy and on the third time of trying to wash there was a dead roach in the washer. Temperature in the Unit: The temperature in the Aad varied. One minute it was freezing cold and the next it was extremely hot to the point you had to open up windows just to cool the Aad off. Note, this happened during the winter months. Parking: When I first moved to Prairie Shores, the parking was bad due to construction in the parking lots. It took a few weeks for them to re-pave the lots. Parking was a major inconvenience. During the winter, parking was extremely difficult due to the winter parking ban for Chicago. Each day, you would see cars parked illegally in the lot because there were no spaces. Usually, by 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. the back lot was filled. Parking on Vernon Street was awful too. There's a paid parking lot, but it seems like a waste of money. Prairie Shores should consider purchasing the adjacent vacant lots and not charge residents. Neighbors: I was on one of the higher floors in building 3001. You've got a lot college students in the building which makes you feel like you live in a dorm. As with any dorm, you have those who disregard other people living there and demonstrate bad habits like smoking weed (a low grade of weed which smells like skunk), hanging out in the hallways having conversations on the phone or not properly disposing their garbage, i.e. noodles on the floor and sink of the garbage room. Safety: In the 7-months that I lived there every other month there was some crime happening in the buildings or complex. One instance a woman had her pursed snatched in the building. Another occasion a man was robbed in the parking lot by two men. The last two incidences were serious. A male jogger was robbed and forced to perform a sexual act on one of the two men. I had to do some research to figure out what exactly happened since the notice that was given to residents was vague. The incident was reported by several media outlets. Here is one (http://wgntv.com/2013/05/12/community-alert-issued-after-s Note these incidences occurred during the day or early evening. There's supposed to be 24-hour security patrolling the complex so I am not sure how all this could happen. The most disturbing thing that happened while living there was a man who was shot a block away on 31st and Rhodes in the Lake Meadows area. I heard what sounded like firecrackers which turned out to be gunshots. From my window you can see and hear the police and ambulance block off the street. The young man didn't make it after being shot in the head - article - (http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-05-21/news/chi-man I understand that in a large urban city crime happens, but the crime and suspicious activities were happening too frequently especially the last two noted which happened within the same month. I could go on and on about the awful experience living there and wasted money in rent. I can say that the mgmt office staff was helpful and responsive to my issues and concerns. The building maintenance is another story. Prairie Shores is a modern day project and should probably be totally rehabbed. Would I recommend someone to rent there? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Unless, you need to be close to the lakefront and downtown, don't mind the pests, outdated units, and poor security and safety then it might be the place for you.
